We had a cheese steak sandwich and a chili burger, both with tots and a couple bottles IBC Rootbeer. The burger was pretty large, the cheesesteak decent, both very tasty. The tots were crisp but not greasy. Sure, it’s not the prettiest place you’ll ever eat at, but it’s good food at a decent price.
Had the chicken fried steak sandwich. It was awesome. Fries were decent. Wife had burger and onion rings. Not a fan of o noons rings but they were delicious.
Awesome Bacon Cheeseburger and Tots! The big is huge, well dressed and the bacon is crispy. Wish I had room to try the homemade brownies. Fast friendly service.
Exactly what the sign says. Old fashioned burgers. Thin patty on the flat top for a nice crisp char. The bacon was also nice a crispy. Nothing earth shattering, but this burger really hit the spot. Also the onion rings are on point. Add a Mexican Coke on the side, and I was a happy kid today.
Great Burgers - Great Prices. Went with a group right after the lunch rush. The tables weren't cleaned or bussed, but there were a few available. After a bit a server came to clear the table and get drink orders. A bit later we ordered a variety of burgers and accoutrements and 20 minutes later it all came out. The burger was exactly what I was hoping for; nothing fancy, but great flavor and portions. Candy's is worth a try and I will be back as often as I have a craving for a diner burger.
Amazing. Best onion rings and catfish. Waitstaff were very friendly- follow their recommendations to a T and you'll be happy every time.
We went there this past Friday and I got to say the burgers were awesomely good. Just what I was looking for. Small place but great service.
Candys has been on my list of places to try for a while now. Jury duty put me in the neighborhood so I decided to finally give it a shot. What a burger! I had a jalapeño cheddar burger. The burger was juicy and bursting with flavor. The jalapeños are lightly grilled so they blend in perfectly with the burger. I don't think they are canned jalapeños, either - or else I want to know the brand cause these suckers were hot!
Love the vibe, too...like someplace from the 50's mostly untouched by time.
In my quest for SA's best burger, I have to this isn't it for me. But the burger is at such a high level - it's just preference. Like preferring Tom Watson to Davis love III. They're both freaking amazing. Come here and try the burger - who knows? Maybe it will be your favorite.
My first time here and was not disappointed at all. Definitely add this one as a place for really good burgers.

We were driving downtown & wanted to find a good burger. We searched restaurants, chose cuisine & picked hamburgers. Candy’s came up so we decided to try it out. As many times as I’ve driven down this street I’ve never seen this place. Parking isn’t the easiest, but what parking downtown is? The woman at the register that took our order was friendly & told us we order, go find a table & then they will bring our food out to us. Meanwhile, we enjoyed the atmosphere. They have an old radio as the cash register table, a bunch of memorabilia on the walls & 80’s tunes playing. When all the food came out we realized we ordered too much. Their basket of fries & rings are bigger than other places. We got the double cheeseburger & the Roy L Rogers burger, which was filled with much more bacon than I expected (had to be at least 6 slices of bacon on it) so I ended up sharing some of it. The burger really hit the spot! Good burgers, fresh basket of hot fries & a basket of onion rings, who could ask for a better lunch. Everything was delicious!
The food was hot and delicious. The portions were just right. I got the country fried steak and my husband got the bacon cheese burger. Husband said it was the best burger he's ever had. The employee checked on us and the other tables to make sure everyone was happy. The price point was amazing as well. We will definitely be back soon!
This place is really nice, The service fast, friendly and attentive. The menu is clear and makes it simple to compose your meal. My burger was good and balanced. I have a preference over smaller but thicker patties while this was thin and spread out like in smash burgers. It was well-seasoned and the dressing was not overpowering. Fries were nice but onion rings were definitely better!
Here at jury duty and a friend recommended this place. Tried their lunch special Single patty bacon cheeseburger with tots and large drink for $11.90 that’s with tax. It was delicious. Definitely will come back.
This has to be one of best hidden gems in San Antonio. This is definitely one of my favorite places to eat every thing is so fast and fresh!! I highly recommended this place to anyone and everyone in San Antonio . ALSO THE BEST WAITRESS EVER !
Candy's was super close to my hotel and I decided to give it a try for lunch. The burger was great and the onion rings were some of the best I've had in a long time texture and taste both very very good. It seems to be a local favorite, ~5 minutes after taking the picture of the empty lobby, it got swarmed by hungry workers there was nowhere to sit. Glad I got in early, recommend and will definitely come back!
Great local burger joint with close proximity to the court house (short walk for a jury duty lunch). Big menu with great lunch specials. The service was good and the food came out quick! Good burgers and the fries are awesome too!
My first time and the food was delish! I went during lunch, so I got the lunch special for $9.99, they also have the lunch specials of the day posted. Definitely will go back to try more! Also, they have super cool nostalgia signs!
