It was raining and the owner encouraged us to get a table to see the rain. I had the migas and my boyfriend had the Big Man breakfast. Both were really good. The salsa is warm and the tostada chips were not my favorite. The tortillas were little stiff for my preference. I like the kitchen is open; they are not hiding anything. I will go back.
So good! We went twice! Handmade food that can't be beat! Definitely worth a stop on your next drive across Texas!
This is a really cool little place made famous by Sandra Cisneros in her book The House on Mango Street. It's definitely a neighborhood place w an eclectic Tejano decor. My lunch buddy and I enjoyed the food, and the service was great. Between us, we had shrimp tacos w yum yum sauce, chips n salsa, and lengua lampreada plate. Lengua lampreada is sliced beef tongue dipped in flour and egg wash and lightly fried. Everything was so fresh and appetizing, and the tortillas were homemade. See the photos. The portions are generous. They serve breakfast all day. As this is in my general neighborhood, I will be coming here often.
I was in town for a family thing and mom recommended this place. Told me I had been there before but I really think I would have recalled eating there. Man, this place kills it. Great plates for breakfast. Ala carte Tacos are huge, not the little street things but worth the 3 or 4 dollars you pay. Plates are generous. We went twice and the first time I had no idea how much food I ordered. I got it all down but I was stuffed. The barbacoa is clean and done well. This is a new (to me) stop that I will return to as I am in town somewhat often on business. I'm tellin' ya, skip the places down town and check this place out. It's a great area, there is stuff around to do and see.
Great spot for good breakfast tacos, the staff is very friendly and id definitely return. One taco can be quite filling just fyi. Got the signatures: the haven and the Torres + side of rice and beans.
Once again, I am in SAT, and once again, I am Taco Haven ( for those of you who grew up with the original name ). Now known as "THE HAVEN SOUTHTOWN". Today, I had the Chilaquiles Plate with a Bean and Cheese taco on the side. It was outstanding. The portions were plentiful, and the fresh tortillas that came with the meal we perfect. Hot, soft, and warm.
The only thing was having to pay for chips and salsa, but I guess this is a challenge for all owners during this inflation period. Hopefully, they will go back to being part of the visit.
Total today was less than $15. Can't beat this for the service and delicious meal.
Thank you.. 😊
We were here again. 8-23. Now they serve liquor, and their drinks were great. We actually were able to experience happy hour. Great adult drinks. The food was great as well. The prices have gone up, so be aware. My total for food was not $15, but it was good.

If you want a traditional Tex Mex meal, this is the place to eat. Yummy ! The barbacoa was delicious!
Came in on a Sunday morning and were sat right away.
Ordered some breakfast tacos and French toast.
Food and drinks came out super fast.
Green salsa that was on the table was my favorite.
Our waitress Dolores was exceptional, she was very friendly and attentive.
Very mom and pop feel to the restaurant with very friendly staff and good food. My only complaint is that the bathroom and back area smelled like sewer water. Is very safe to say thats out of their control. The restaurant is clean and theres always a crowd eating there.
This place is still legit! I've been returning for many years now, and it stays on the when in town a must list. It's worth the wait! My go-to is the Reggie!
