Delicious craft beer; great wine, too! Good pub grub and the pies are to die for! Great vibe, easy to get to....parking is iffy at times, but worth the trouble!
I enjoyed the place and the services and the mac and cheese and pecan pie. I'm sure that the beer was very good too although it was not in my place for personal reasons not because of the brewery. The lecture on vegetable gardening was outstanding. We in the USA 🇺🇸 don't always remember how much gratitude we owe to our food supply system here in America!
Thanks 🙏 from the bottom of my heart ❤️
Downtown San Antonio is eminently walkable, which is a huge plus in my world. I hate having to find parking in urban spaces. If you are staying on or near the Riverwalk, you can truly walk to just about anywhere that matters. I was at the Hampton Inn, and it was an easy one-mile walk on city streets and the Riverwalk to get to Blue Star. The front desk assured me that it would be safe for a tourist walking through there at night; I took their word for it, and all ended well.
I started with a flight of brews, including Flying Pig Extra Pale Ale (5% ABV), Cinco Peso Pale Ale (5% ABV), Green Tractor IPA (6.5% ABV), and Jingle Ale (obviously a seasonal brew; unknown ABV). Each was a hit, although as with most holiday seasonal, one glass is enough. Merry Christmas and all that, but sometimes the flavorings get the better of me. One and done on that.
But the Cinco Peso Pale Ale was my fave of the rest, so I had a couple of pints, and also had a 64-ounce growler filled as a souvenir.
Yeah. I had to lug that thing a mile back to my hotel. The things you do for good beer.
For dinner, I ordered the house-made veggie burger patty served as a lettuce wrap (saving calories for beer, yo). It’s a nice blend of mushrooms, bell peppers, carrots, faro, and black beans. Many standard beef burgers are also on the menu, as well as shrimp, chicken, fish, pork, ribeyes, and more. If you leave hungry, it’s on you.
This is a must for visitors craving a local quaff and nosh. Two thumbs up.
This was my last walking stop of the night on my south-of-town personal brewery hop so I walked here from Dos Sirenos.
The only thing I got was a Texican Lager which was okay. If I came back here to drink another beer I would try something else. I sat at the bar and the service was quick. The bartender gave me a water without me asking and kept it full. The staff was friendly and attractive.
The best part about this place might be the location. It’s right on the riverwalk. If the Veo bikes would let you ride on the riverwalk it would be a really nice ride down to here.
Went here for the first time was very happy with the food. Though the their craft beer was a little underwhelming. We had the chips and guacamole as a appetizer. Then we had the bacon cheese burger and some garlic fries. All were very tasty and filling. The only thing I was disappointed on was the craft beers. I got really excited for the barnstormers line they had. It was a fruit flavored beer which went too far with the fruit flavor. It almost just tasted like a wine. Maybe next I'll try something a little more standard. Our waitress was amazing and got everything to us fast and attended to every need.
Texican beer was OK, but Bulverde Pilsner was really good. Food was OK. Portion sizes were medium. Standard pub food on menu. Service was excellent. Finding a parking space was challenging.
It was such a wonderful place to visit. The service was great, and the beers were even better. They serve some of the best sours we have had in Texas. If you want a great sour in San Antonio, this is the place to visit. The bartenders are awesome. The seating is great, and I can't wait to come back and try their food. A must if you are in town.
Great food options, quality and speed.
We were there for the Big Bands Tuesday
Music was wonderful (intolerable hour warm up, wait next room)
Service was ok
We’ve been here before and we’ll be back again. First of all (and keep this in mind as you are reading any of the negative reviews) this is a brewery. It’s not a bar and it’s not a restaurant. They serve food but their primary business is brewing beer. If you want cocktails there is an AMAZING speakeasy (Bar 1919) literally next door with the largest selection of whiskey in the entire state of Texas! It’s a great place and deserves a visit.
The food at Blue Star is not gourmet dining but it is on par or better than average pub food. On our most recent trip my wife and I split an order of brisket jalapeño poppers and an order of jerk chicken. The poppers were smokey in flavor but not loaded with beef. The jerk chicken was sweet and spicy, everything was served warm and seemed fresh. The food not spectacular but it was definitely above average.
We started with the sour ales. I had the cherry lambic and she had the raspberry. Hers was better but we liked both of them. When the food came I got a pint of Green Tractor, one of their regular IPAs. It was floral almost to the point of being perfumy, but in no way off-putting. It had a nice, earthy backbone with a malty balance and a smooth bitter finish.
I like this place because it’s right on the river so it’s nice to walk around before or after enjoying a pint. There’s several other businesses sharing the parking lot and it’s easy to spend a little time visiting the other venues and seeing what’s going on.
We went to Blue Star Brewing Co. for lunch. The beer is great and the service was excellent. Ask for Ashley when you go there, she was an excellent server. We had the Belgium double, called "Fun Fun", it was excellent. Then Ashley recommended the Barnstormer Quad. It was probably one of the best beers I have ever had. I had the super nachos with brisket. My wife had salad and soup combo. This was an especially excellent lunch excursion. I would highly recommend Blue Star Brewery for both their food and especially their beer.
Perfect place to host your events. Amazing service and great food. All the beer is local and delicious, definitely a must try place along the river walk!!
Such a dope place. Music was on point. Service was top tier. Food was so good - we got the wings, loaded chicken nachos, and brisket poppers. Homie got the rib eye steak and loved it too. Overall will deff come back. Very homey vibe :) oh and of coarse their beer was good. Love a good draft. Got the flying pig and tasted so smooth.
