We had a table of 10 and the service was fantastic, our waiter was amazing, and the food was so original and delicious. I don’t see how this place hasn’t been on a Food Network show yet. What a gem in the middle of San Antonio! We will be back and ready to try a menu full of great food! Meeting Drew, the owner was a treat too!
more then exceptional! Great service from our waiter Lisa she was super friendly attentive and made sure to tell us favorites on the menu. Wait for food was a bit long but the food was worth the wait. My son loved the mac and cheese and meat loaf with gravy and mushrooms. Will come back over and over again
Our regular dinner group of 7 adults decided to try this hot new pseudo-diner tonight. It’s located across from our fav Chinese restaurant on Embassy Row in a crowded shopping center. The decor is modern 50s diner and sparkling clean with some leather booths, metal chairs/tables and baked breads, bagels, cakes and pies on display in glass cases. It is reminiscent of New York City diners but this one is much more modern and not in disrepair.
We were seated and given large multi-page menus with lots of deli sandwiches, burgers, salads, breakfast items and plates (salmon, roast chicken, etc.). Also offered are Matzo ball soup, soup of the day, appetizers, open face hot sandwiches, shakes and malts, knishes, chopped liver, latkes, cheesecake and bakery items.
We ordered cheese omelette with a pancake, grilled salmon, matzo ball soup with a Hebrew National frankfurter / sauerkraut plate, open roast beef sandwich, club salad, large split pea soup and a burger with fries. The matzo ball soup was a huge serving with a matzo ball the size of a tennis ball floating in a delicious broth full of vegetables and chicken—a meal in itself. The split pea soup was creamy and thick; the open roast beef sandwich served on top of homemade wheat bread with mashed potatoes and gravy was satisfying and tasty. The pancakes cover the plate and are high-rise puffy ones, delish! Portions are huge and prices are a little dear too - our tab for two cups of soup, one club salad, the open faced sandwich plate, a frankfurter plate with onion rings, one beer and two teas was $72.88 before tip. There is also a full bar. Service is friendly and efficient. We will be back!
Was looking for a good breakfast place on lazy Sunday morning and came across this place on a Yelp list. OMG....it was great. The coffee was the best, the food was amazing! Pancakes and french toast are huge! Both my husband and I were stuffed. This is a great place with great food and all at a good price. Can't wait to return.
Yummy food!
Delicious French toast with special blend syrup, excellent restaurant! Best blueberry pancakes ever! Owner Drew is a sweetheart!
I am a transplanted Easterner and miss my bagels and lox. We were in San Antonio for a meeting and found this great restaurant. The deli sandwiches were thick like a NYC Deli. The White Fish Salad a Bagels were a taste of home. Portions are gigantic.
We waited in line to get in, but it was worth it.
What a nice find! Not being New Yorkers, my wife and I were very pleased with our dinner. The diner is very clean and the staff courteous and knowledgeable. The soup was light and flavorful. You could taste every component. My wife’s Caesar was serviceable, just underdressed. I do not like sauerkraut, so The Rachel is my deli sandwich of choice. You don’t find it on too many menus. Hot pastrami coupled with coleslaw and Thousand island dressing on rye. Definitely a five napkin feast. My only issue was coleslaw came as the standard side for sandwiches. They offered potato salad or fries with an up charge. Coleslaw with coleslaw? Too much. We will definitely try their breakfast next. Overall, a great experience.
I've seen at least a dozen pictures of food online that looked so good I couldn't wait to try this place. I was definitely not disappointed. The bartender took a bit to get to us, but once he started helping us, he was attentive the rest of the visit. I had the open face turkey melt and it was delicious. I kept staring at all the food that was coming out of the kitchen. Very LARGE portions. Get a to go box because you are going to want dessert. It's very hard to decide between their cake, cookies and milkshakes.
Corned Beef sandwich was next best thing to being in NYC. Rye bread is best around. Becoming a regular and services improves with every visit.
This was delicious! We tried the Philly Cheesesteak (massive, although the teenager polished if off) the Rachel with pastrami/corned beef and the spaghetti and meatballs plus a side order of fries. Everyone thought their food was delicious- and considering how packed the place was others must think so too. We finished up with a milkshake and the cheesecake which were very good as well-
The place was bright, clean and the waitstaff pleasant- everyone was slightly distracted by the playoff game- but that just added to the mood. Drew Glick made the rounds and spoke to most of the diners which is a nice touch as well.
It isn't cheap, but three entrees, a side order, two desserts and leftovers for two at $60 pre-tip isn't expensive either.
We were very pleased with dinner and look forward to going back again.
Great place to get a bite to eat. I'm from the east coast and this place captures the taste and feel of the dinners from the east coast. I've eaten here twice already and liked everything both my wife and I have ordered. I would recommend you give it a try.
We really love this place. Good food and they have amazing Black and Whites. I would recommend going hungry, portions are large. If you have ever been to NYC it's worth a try.
Most items we have tried have been delicious & the presentation is even better. Their homemade marinara is full of flavor. The lasagna was tasty, I would order it again. Pizza & Stromboli are delicious! All the waitstaff we have encountered are nice & accommodating too. Huge menu! Breakfast is big & beautiful if you like breakfast at different times of the day this is something you HAVE to try. The challah French toast is fluffy& delicious. Chicken & waffle was crispy & tasty. Hot sandwiches are a recommendation. Just sitting in the diner watching plates come out to people we can see the presentation of the dishes & they look mouth watering. I know we will go back to enjoy more!
Wow! Delicious!! The food was amazing and huge. Definitely worth the wait. Signed up for seating but easy process with a waitlist. Weekend was busy but service was great. Little crowded seating. Parking was plentiful as it’s in a strip mall type area. Bakery items were also delicious! Will definitely be going back!
Lots of deliciousness here. Yummy mimosas with fresh squeezed juices! You can get mimosas with a bottle of bubbly and a carafe of juice if everyone at the table is drinking. Wednesday is happy hour day with 1/2 priced bottles of wine and other specials. The food was really tasty with large portions. The grilled cheese French toast with challah bread is so good with just the amount of sweet. It comes with homemade dipping maple syrup too. The sausage link is yummy and the poached eggs were cooked to perfection! Can’t wait to come back here.
I wish I could give 6 stars for the service. Our waitress Elaine was above and beyond. It's the details. We needed to go containers for our food and she went all out with extra syrup condiments utensils etc for our food. Coffee to go and tea to go as well. So later we'll have another hassle free meal because of their generous portions. I'm definitely coming back!
Wow!!! Awesome food. The staff are so friendly and attentive. We had 5 at at our table… I think we met 6 staff members making sure we were happy! Highly recommend!
One of the best places I’ve eaten at for a long time! Everyone loved it - one of the owners was there - very much from New York. Nice guy - was like we stepped out of Texas and walked into a diner in NY City
Every City need this restaurant. Huge 5 stars, well deserved! Portions are enormous and yet absolutely high quality!! Must visit place, if you live here. If passing by also, and when you return stop again!! It’s a sin not to stop by.
Enjoy!
P.S. Drinks follow the whole story!
Finally, first time at Max and Louie’s. Dined in for lunch with my partner and best friend.
I ordered the French toast which was out of this world! I wouldn’t mind having that again RIGHT NOW. We were all surprised when the meatloaf got to the table - the entree was HUGE. Our waiter was great! Zero complaints. We would definitely come back again.
Checked out this NY diner yesterday before my son’s big day. It was a perfect spot to relax myself and see a familiar subway sign, sat at the counter and enjoyed my delish sandwich with over easy eggs and loved the slight pressure on the bun to make the yolk flow.. yummy 😋 💛
(saw the pastrami sandwich and almost 😅 ordered. Nothing like a real NY pastrami sammy baby. )
I have to go back one day. NY in TX. Love it 🍎♥️ Jamaica, Queens ♥️
Everyone at ceremony was hungry and I shared my wonderful experience with pics to rub it in a little.. 🤭
I recently dined at Max and Louie's New York Diner and had mixed experiences. The wait time, particularly on weekends, tends to be quite long so make sure you're not in a rush.
I ordered the Buffalo Chicken sandwich unfortunately it was on the dry side, and the blue cheese didn't contribute much flavor. On a positive note, the French fries were crispy and delightful. The hamburger, while losing some flavor due to the brioche bun, was accompanied by massive and delicious shake. The standout dish for me was the potato knish, which became even more amazing with a dab of Dijon mustard. While the cheese blintzes were good, the addition of blueberry sauce elevated their taste significantly.
The menu is massive so I'll definitely be back to try other items.
I was very impressed about everything about this restaurant.
The decor, ambiance, service and prices were all amazing, but without the brusque NY 'tude!
The coffee ☕ was very good and I savored every bit of my blueberry waffle.
The server was on point, attentive but not hovering.
I can't wait to come again as I'm often next door at the Santikos Embassy 14 Theater!
Thanks for the great dining experience. 😇👍
