Freshly made, high quality burgers and fries. You can taste the difference vs a big box. I usually eat here, if I'm in the area of it, if I need a great burger fix. It's a small, cozy place. The menu is big, with lots of options, and prices are decent.
Had Dad's Bacon and Cheddar burger and it was pretty good. Fries had just the right amount of salt, and the atmosphere was lively and upbeat. It has an old fashioned feel, but they we're playing modern rock. I will definitely be heading back next time I'm nearby at lunch.

Great place for lunch. Went for my first time. So glad I called in as the guy running take out lane called my name & said I didn't have to wait in long line where others order. He quickly processed my Groupon and handed me one if the best sandwiches I've had all year!
This is a little hole in the wall place. It was very crowded. I had a table by myself and two guys asked to sit with me. I was glad to have the company.
I got the western burger. It is not served on a bun. It is served on toasted bread instead. I would have liked the bun. The guys who sat with me said their buns were good and toasted. The taste of it was very good. I would come back again.
The older menu shows fries with the burger. They no longer do that...you must upgrade to a meal for like 3.00 more to get a drink and fries.
A trip to downtown Sacramento had me and my buddy hungry! After some yelping around the area, we landed upon Dad's on J. On the outside, you can't even tell its a restaurant. Once you get inside, you can immediately smell the appetizing aroma. Even though the inside doesn't look fancy, it is clean and comfortable. Prices are reasonable as well. The guy at the counter was friendly and quick with my order. I got a chicken salad and my buddy got the hot blonde sandwich. Bomb dot com! The chicken was grilled to perfection and the greens were fresh and crunchy. The steak fries were some of the best I've had! I only wish the portion was bigger but alas - I enjoyed every part of it. My eyes quickly hovered to other people's orders as they were coming through and gosh, everything looked divine. I will be back to Dad's on J for sure to try everything.
Great food in an older, unpretentious building on J just east of 10th. I ordered their Classic breakfast sandwich (grilled sourdough, eggs, bacon, and cheese). It was delicious! Satisfying without feeling stuffed. Staff was super friendly, patient, and helpful. Apparently, they're popular with busy folks...their phone was constantly ringing with takeout orders. Thanks!
This is one of my favorite lunch places downtown. Burgers are great and classic style, the Philly is really good and my favorite sandwich is the "Hot Blonde". I love to call in my order and pick it up, because it does get busy during the lunch hour, and it's a small restaurant. I suggest going before 11:45 AM or after 1 PM if you want to beat the rush. Even though it's worth the wait!
Lunch was great today. Had the BBQ bacon burger on sourdough. Combo comes w fries and a drink. $12 w tax and tip. Well worth it. Couldn't finish the fries. Huge order of steak fries. Location is a bit sketchy but no worse than any other downtown location. Do yourself a favor and EAT AT DADS!!
The best pastrami sandwich I've had in a long time and that says a lot being that I'm from NY!! The host and the cook were courteous and polite and it just made for a good atmosphere all around!! Happy birthday to me damnit! Great place!
