This place was so clean and well laid out. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was awesome. I had pulled pork, brisket, green beans, corn bread, French fries and tried Mac n cheese. All on point and plenty for left overs. Definitely coming here again.
Mission accomplished...for me at least! Will make this my go-to BBQ place. Liked the buns, the range of sauces, the good quality sides, and the meat portion was quite generous.

Incredible food, incredible service. The BBQ dishes are superb. The pork BBQ is not sauced before being served, and its smoky, peppery flavor is incredible on its own without using any of the 6 (or is it 8 now?) great sauces. The moist brisket, one of the most difficult cuts to get right, is the best I've ever had, including that from the presumed kings of brisket, those pesky Texans. The smoked turkey is unbelievably moist and flavorful - I'm not a smoked turkey fan, but at Mission it's irresistible.
The short- and baby back ribs are good, but perhaps not the best I've ever had. The #41 sausage is pretty standard, but the jalapeno & cheddar is pretty good.
The sides are good, particularly the mac&cheese and the brisket-enhanced beans.
The service is outstanding - they circulate and offer to get you refills and bus your table, and often have samples of their fare to try.
This had fast become my go-to lunch spot - not only is the food and service great, it's dangerously close to my office!

This place is great! The BBQ is delicious -- not sure why these other people dislike so much. The sauces are wonderful -- tupelo honey is the best. The sides are quite delish too. Not to mention part of the profits go to a wonderful non profit.
Thumbs up!. Most reviews I've read are evidently non-BBQ eaters... I'm with Rob on this. #1 BBQ joint in the RVA. Go Mission BBQ!
All in all, Mission BBQ should be able to make quite a home here in Richmond. They serve up some of the best barbecue I’ve had in town, they very likely serve Richmond’s best beef brisket, which in tandem with the low prices and company policy of giving back to local servicemen, cops and firefighters, makes Mission BBQ more than able to go toe-to-toe with any other barbecue joint in town, and they should be able to gain a local following in due time. If you’re looking for some first class barbecue this Memorial Day weekend, you can’t do any better than a place that takes the reason for the season to the core of company policy. That said, any other time of year, you’d be hard pressed to find better barbecue in Richmond than Mission BBQ.
Mission BBQ is one of our favorite BBQ restaurants in Richmond. It is unique and the food is always great. I love the atmosphere as soon as you walk in the door. All wall surfaces are covered with military patches, photos, sports items, and military memorabilia. Everyone behind the counter always make you feel welcome. The customer service is superb. The food speaks for itself, all meats and sides are cooked to perfection. Even though there is always a line, but it moves very quickly and there were never a long wait. This is a great place to fix your BBQ cravings!
1st time here and love it. The atmosphere, employees, and other guests gave off a warm inviting feeling. I had the 3 meat sampler with pulled pork, smoked turkey, & jalapeno& cheese brats!! I also had 2 sides (mac n cheese & cheesy potatoes) so good!!

Nicely seasoned meats. Had the Mac & cheese and potato salad as sides with the sample 3 meat platter of ribs, pulled pork, and sausage. All were good.

Love love love Mission BBQ!!! I had the 2 meat sampler and chose the pulled pork and brisket. Both were outstanding! Had the baked beans (excellent) and seasoned buttered corn on the cob (incredible). Good selection of sauces to tingle the palette as well. I almost forgot the delicious cornbread, oh mama that's good eats!
My dad is a vet. As soon as this place opened, he wanted to come check it out and we've been going back ever since! The food is wonderful they really take pride in their food! The staff are all very nice and take very good care of you. If you want to give your business to a place that really celebrates not only military vets but also any first responders then this is the place for you. As a side note they have the best blueberry cobbler!
Very good BBQ, lots of different types of sauces to sample. The sides are delicious. Stand (that's right) for the national anthem every day at 12:00 noon when veterans are recognized. Some outdoor seating and plenty of indoor seats as well. It's all good but I recommend the brisket. Enjoy!
