I've never seen a beer bar post the date their draft lines were last cleaned-- awesome that they do!
Good vibes and selection here!
Do you like beer? Of course you do. Well Tracy and his great staff love beer and it shows. This place has a great beer selection that's personally curated by the staff and rotates often. With the small bottle shop in the back in addition to what's on draft, there are options for every beer lover's tastes. This place is the epitome of a local neighborhood bar. They even let my friends and I throw a baby shower there. There's live music on the weekends (generally folky/indie stuff), trivia on Wednesdays, and if you're lucky enough to catch them on a Saturday when they're opening a new set of taps you'll really get to see how well loved this bar is by the community. This place is the best bar in Raleigh without question.
This is my favorite bar/bottle shop in Raleigh. Low key vibe, unpretentious, and a good selection of beer on tap. The owner is highly knowledgeable and willing to help pick out a beer if not busy with other customers. Seriously, I can't recommend this place enough.
Good selection of beers on tap. Went there with a wedding party and they were accommodating. Had a nice two piece band. Played foosball. Friends smoked cigars in there outdoor seating area along the street.
The Stags Head is the perfect mix between a bar and a bottle shop. With an extensive collection of solid regulars and hard to find rare beers both at the tap and in the bottle, Tracy and Malachy have created what is probably my favorite place to drink and hang out with friends on Glenwood. Note that they don't serve food (besides free popcorn), but you're absolutely welcome to bring in food from outside or have something delivered. In addition, the location is dog friendly inside!
edit:
Also, the location they've chosen is gigantic, so don't be afraid to take a large party there as seating is expansive but you may want to arrive a bit earlier with a large party if it's a Friday or Saturday. It is a business on Glenwood after all.
Plenty of space for a large group. I hosted an event in which 20+ people showed up on a Friday and we had enough seating. They have a fairly small selection of beers (16 when I was there, I believe). In addition they have a medium-sized bottle shop. I would go there again.
Stag's head always has a incredible selection of craft beers that are harder to find in the area. The owner loves to feature Burial, Mikkeller, and Omnipollo beers among others. A bit on the pricey side, but always worth it as the selection is top notch. They clean their lines every week. There's free pop corn, comfy chairs, pool & ping pong, and plenty of T.V's to watch.
This is a great place to unwind for a nice conversation, some deep introspection, or nice live music from the open mic stage. I like that I can bring my dogs here, and they even offer them popcorn and a water bowl. Bonus: The place also smells really nice :)
A Glenwood South gem - Tracy and his team will take great care of you at the bar and there's ample space here to bring in small groups. They have a nice selection of craft beer and also offer wine and spirits now, too.
Stag's Head is easily my favorite bar in Raleigh. The staff is fantastic, the owner Tracy has fantastic taste and will help you find the perfect selection, and the atmosphere is amazingly chill. I cannot recommend this spot more if what you're looking for is a laid back spot for drinks with friends.
