Very good Eastern North Carolina BBQ. The sides are also delicious. The restaurant and parking lot is very small. This is a great place to get food if you are on the way to a NC State football game or just for lunch during the week. I prefer BBQ with a smoke taste but this is still very good. This is a must try if you are visiting or live in the area.
Solid local BBQ spot. Great vibes inside, nice staff, and fair prices.
Have come to decide I’m not a huge fan of the finely chopped pork that is popular in the area. Texture keeps feeling more like a sludge than pulled pork.
The sides offered are great and portion sizes are nice.
Was in NC for the first time a couple days ago for only about 36 hours. A friend back home in Colorado said I had to eat at the Angus Barn, but I passed and chose to find some BBQ. Came here based on reviews and the building / cars in the parking lot. With a building like that and a full parking lot, you know it’s gonna be good. I took a seat, got called honey and darlin’ a few times and knew I made the right choice. I had the ribs and pulled pork with Brunswick Stew and boiled cabbage (recommended by the awesome staff). All was delicious and the ribs are probably the best non-sauced ribs I’ve ever had. Tender, wet, smoked to perfection - delicious! They made me feel like a regular. If I’m ever in Raleigh again, I’ll be back
Absolutely delicious and reasonably priced Eastern NC barbeque. No frills, so don't come here if you're looking for something fancy. If you're hungry and southern though...this is your place. Tastes just like my sweet grandma's southern cooking. Friendly people...fast service. Great find if you're in the area!
Nostalgic NC BBQ joint. Food is on the sweet side, even the boiled cabbage.
Food taste and portion was amazing! Service was great too! However, it was 100 degrees outside and 95 degrees inside! Would like to eat here again but it will definitely be in January.
Fabulous friendly fast service, even on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. If you are looking for quintessential NC vinegar BBQ, this is the place. Also, great iced tea, mac 'n cheese, cut green beans from a can, and hot peach cobbler in Styrofoam....exactly what you are looking for in the whole experience.
This place is awesome, if you want your BBQ "down and dirty". Great hush puppies, the pork was delicious and the fried chicken was also great. They are North Carolina style, vinegar based.
One of my favorite places to get BBQ in Raleigh. The staff is always nice. I am an NC State student, and they give discounts if we show our idea. I asked our server about it and she said, "All college students deserve a classic home cooked meal". That really stuck with me, so I love visiting when I'm feeling homesick.
I visited once, 8 years ago, and woke up today thinking about this place. The food was so good, but what I really remember was how well I was treated. I came in alone and exhausted on a work trip. I sat at the bar top and although this was my first time anywhere near Raleigh, I was treated like regular that comes in every week. I remember my waitress making suggestions with enthusiasm. You could tell she loved the place too. While I was eating, the cooks called out to me from the kitchen and asked how I was enjoying it. As was finishing, my waitress came by again and asked if I had room for dessert. I told her I didn't but I was going to get some anyway. Then, she brought me a bowl of banana pudding that I didn't order and said, "You're going to love this." She was right. My bill was only $20 or so but I tipped the same amount as the bill and left so happy that I am sitting here, 8 years later, thinking about it with a big smile on my face.
