What a great treasure the neighborhood of the Clark Street Deli and Market has.
I had two sandwiches that were awesome...the East Ender with fried chicken, ham, swiss, mayo, lettuce and tomato on a toasted roll, and the Oakdale ,which is like a Cuban paninni. Both were lovingly, (and I truly mean that), lovingly made by Patrick? as tho I was the most important person he was preparing food for.
This young man clearly loves what he does and it translates into the food. He had just taken out a fresh batch of giant maple bacon walnut cookies - you heard that right...maple bacon in a cookie- YUMMMMM. His own creation! He read my mind as my mouth was watering and grabs one, cuts it into pieces and offers me a bite. It was fabulous.
If you are in the neighborhood, it's a definite stop by kinda place- grab your bottle of wine, a hot -out -of -the -oven cookie, a pizza or sandie, and a warm smile from the great team running the place. It's clearly appreciated as there was a steady stream of people coming to grab the food offerings.
I know where I'll be stopping by when I'm in the neighborhood.
Keith, Phil, Abbey, Pauline and the rest of the crew make it a joy to come back again and again. Not only is their food excellent, the service is too.
My favorite is the whole sized big john. Very generous portion size which makes it a great value.
