Great local pub - excellent service & to die for beef brisket! Will definitely make this a regular hang out spot!
If you like whiskey and a homey, unpretentious place to enjoy it, put Neat Bar at the top of your list. Super friendly owner, great vibe, fun space.
Neat is really Neat. It is a small cozy location with a great whisky selection. Unlike most places their pours are a hefty 2oz at very reasonable prices. I had the Weller 12, Rock Hills, and Hibiki 17. Don't miss out on their brisket. It was delicious and a nice complement to their drinks. The owner was very proud of this dish and it doesn't disappoint.
Neat is that special kind of experience that isn't for everyone. Sure, you can pop in for a quick beer or cocktail. But to really appreciate Neat, you need to get to know owner & bartender Robert, and let him guide you on a curated tour of his extensive scotch & whiskey collection! I have very much enjoyed every visit to Neat, and appreciated Robert's wealth of knowledge - as well as the libations he pours!

I am a fan of a good whiskey, I am an even bigger fan of being served cocktails by a knowledgeable bartender. Neat takes it to a whole new level. They have a ladder that rolls from one end of the bar to the other. The staff are experts in all things whiskey, bourbon, scotch etc. Their food is pretty darn great as well.
Such a great atmosphere! Quirky decor with nice division of spaces to call your own for your group. Bartender was very friendly and helped me out with a mocktail, I was getting jealous of all my friends' tasty looking drinks!
What do you get when you mix a whiskey bar with portraits of whiskered women? A tasteful, yet unpretentious atmosphere to lounge in! And the owners have a way of choosing bartenders who are interested in getting to know their guests. Pinkies up to Neat!

Enjoy, whiskey, and have $7-$20+ per drink? This is your place. The bar tender was super friendly and also made a point to mention they do 2 oz pours, but other places typically do 1.5 oz.
They also have complimentary pool, and some small bites, both of which I haven't tried yet.
For whiskey in Portland, this is a fantastic choice, with a laid back vibe and expansive whiskey selection.
We biked in on a warm afternoon and it was really pleasant inside. The bartender made us delicious old fashioneds (we had one regular and one with Mezcal, super smokey and really good!) and also ordered the samosas. He told us they get them from Salem every week, and cook them in the bar.
From the outside, we weren't enticed to go in, but once in, we really liked it. I hope it gets busier because we want it to be around!
Bartender knows his stuff! I had him pick some whiskey and all of them where amazing. He did a great job talking to us about the different types of whiskey, scotch, etc, it really made the whole experience better.
The owner/bartender was very knowledgeable about whiskey. All of the ones he recommended was perfect. Comfortable funky spot. Great music selection.
