I am in love with this place! The food is fresh and delicious, and I ABSOLUTELY am in love with the vinyl music they play.....
This is a great date night place. It is mostly candle lighting which... lets be honest makes everyone look amazing. It also sets a good vibe. The owners are some of the nicest people I have ever met. Tim is usually at the bar. He makes the yummiest drinks and delights any conversation. He is a great bartender and definitely knows his stuff! Oh yeah! There is Whiskey! I love Whiskey and he has a lot of options which is great. Of course they have other drinking options if Whiskey is not your thing. There are good local beer and wine's to select from.
The food changes seasonally which is great. They use a lot of different local farmers to get the freshest ingredients. mmmmmm..... I'm hungry just thinking about the food here. There are gluten free and vegan food options, they can substitute different things or create something off menu sometimes.
They have a room next door that can be used for event space. Its beautifully lit with a string of lights! So magical! They even let you bring in your own cake if you're throwing that type of party. I am trying to think up an event just so I can use the beautiful space lol!
I will definitely eat and drink here whenever I am in the area!
SIDE NOTE: The sign outside says BAR/KITCHEN and the window says Cardinal Club. So you will know you are in the right place!
Very best kept secret in SE Portland. And a damn fine Old Fashioned.
Small restaurant/bar that is cool and quiet. The proprietors were fun and helpful. The drinks were amazing, the food delicious. Margaritas are stellar! Photo is smoked trout pate.
It was a music event there! very fun!

Was really blown away by this place. We came in for Portland dining month on a whim and the food was top notch. Our bartender was great and really made it a personal experience.
Additionally, the staff worked seamlessly together. Whisking away and replacing silverware and plates throughout the meal in a really professional manner that you don’t see at much more expensive spots in town.
At a loss for words for the food. It flew above expectations. The whole trout over fennel and arugula salad is one of my favourite dishes I’ve gotten to enjoy in portland.
Me and my family showed up last minute, and we were accepted immediately by our waitress! She was so friendly and made us feel welcomed! We tried going to the bar next door and they did not try to accommodate us at all, and the second we showed up to cardinal, our waitress took no time to give us the best experience. We wish we got her name to thank her specifically!
Also the drinks were delicious! We will be back for sure.
I love this place. Great whiskey. Knowledgeable staff. Good food. Owners are the best. Music is warm and fun and just the right vibe for a relaxed kind of place. I refer to it as "the perfect spot for a man date" because it is nice, but not fancy. At the cardinal center of PDX proper, so easy to get to from anywhere. But don't tell anyone! I want my seat at the bar open ;).
Get your butt here before this place becomes discovered and the small, limited seating restaurant is packed! What a great little place, I believe the only reason they haven't gotten more foot traffic is due to poor signage outside (you might just pass this place when you see the vague sign out front for beer/wine).
We had the whole place to ourselves on a Wednesday evening. They have a great drink selection that is very reasonably priced ($6 champagne cocktail - yes please!)
The grilled romaine salad was ridiculous, and my friends raved about their fish stew. I also had the Philly style sandwich that was nothing like a cheese steak - it was fresh, had unique flavors, and just made me happy.
I would definitely go back here! Love it!
A cozy nook with a relaxed, candle-lit speakeasy vibe. Look for the "Bar/Kitchen Open" sign just above the door. Great sandwiches. Excellent cocktails. Stellar service from the owners/bartenders. My go-to beer/cocktail bar.
Came here with limited time before catching a movie at the Laurelhurst theater and they were great about getting our order in quickly and making sure we knew what could come out quickly.
The old fashioned was unique in a good way- not too sweet. And the roast pork sandwich was amazing.
What a place! Such great food. Do yourself a favor and order their skirt steak... mouth-watering even a few weeks after my last visit. Everything about this place is great, including the prices and service.
Cocktails are amazing, they have a pisco sour that's to die for. Their house desert is something delicious that you can't find anywhere else. Also a good happy hour.
