There's a lot of really good mediterranean food in Portland, and a lot of good mediterranean food trucks at that. I imagine it must be very difficult to stand out from the rest, but this one does just that.
I was looking to pick up lunch for a Saturday office conference of about 11 people with a fair amount of vegetarians. I wanted to pick up something that everyone would be happy with, so I gave Grill on the Go a call. They put together a fantastic spread with pita, falafel, stuffed grape leaves, hummus, baba ganoush, tzatziki, and fattoush salad.
Everything was amazing. The falafel was crisp on the outside and soft on the inside even coming out of a catering tray 15 minutes later, and was still delicious the next day as leftovers. The dips/sauces were all very delicious as well.
The standout star of the lunch was the rice though. I will be having dreams about the seasoned rice. It's not because everything else wasn't also fantastic but that rice was just indescribably good, I wish I could describe it but I'm not familiar enough with the spices to point anything out in particular. (Cumin definitely, turmeric, sumac, cinnamon maybe? Perfectly balanced though.)
I will definitely be coming back, both on my own for lunch and for future office catering needs. Keep them on your radar, they'll even deliver for a good sized party of people.
I believe it was the owner who helped me out, I forgot to get his name, but he was very friendly and helpful in helping me put together a good spread.
I was NOT expecting this place to blow my mind with flavor, but WOW. juicy, flavorful chicken, perfectly cooked rice, and the best part is the salad?!?!? the salad is amazing. super vinegar-y, tasty dressing. can't believe how good and cheap and fast this is. wow.
Beef shwarma plate was fresh and delicious. Yellow rice was flavorful and the beef was cooked perfectly, tender and very flavorful. Comes with a small salad and is priced right too. The "gyro sandwich" on the other hand wasn't much to write home about but I feel like that's the way it is at all these little gyro carts.....you find there signature dishes and roll with that.
I'd say pass on the gyro which in my opinion was on the small and soggy side.
Overall this is a good Mediterranean truck.
This is one of my favorite food d carts in the area, their baba ganoush is the best I’ve had in Portland!
I ate beef shawarma platter and it’s delicious! They cook fast and prices are reasonable. Will definitely stop by again and recommend this food cart to my friends! Also, just so you know, everything except gyro meat (lamb/beef mix) is halal.
Amazing! The food tastes like home cooking. Some of the best middle eastern for I’ve ever had. They give great sized portions for amazing prices. It’s hard to find great middle eastern food like this in outer south east Portland. I recommend the beef or chicken shawarma plates.
The hummus is leagues better than what you pick up at the grocery store. They don't skimp on the tahini. Wish they had a larger option.
One of Portland’s best food carts! Always fresh, always delicious, and AFFORDABLE!!!!! I will come here always!
Falafel was good but the salad not so much(tasted a little bit odd).
Very flavorful and fresh with good portions! The mezze was fantastic (!) but the shwarma and rice, while delicious in flavor, was so super dry - especially the rice.
food was very good, tried the greek salad and lamb gyro, was very delicious.
