You should "Wonder" in here.... We came up to Portland early for a Saturday night concert at the Wonder Ballroom and conveniently located below the venue is the Bunk Bar. I fitting name for a funky restaurant slightly below grade giving you the quasi feeling of actually being in a bunker (minus the windows). Pass by the AC/DC pinball machine, check out the chalk board menu then place your order at the bar. Our bartender was friendly and helpful with suggestions & explanations. Their specialty here is sandwiches and they do a fine job of it.
I ordered up a menu special Shrimp Po Boy. The shrimp was lightly breaded and fried up nicely served with lettuce, tomato, pickles & mayo. The shrimp were medium sized and succulent. It was difficult to eat the sandwich without the shrimp falling off. Each of the ladies got pulled pork sandwiches and promptly admitted they should have split one. One exclaimed this reestablished some of her faith in eating out! They both enjoyed them and had leftovers to boot.
I recommend checking this place out before a show. They do have a full bar much that is more extensive then what is offered in the venue along with a handful of micro brews on tap. We noticed they were closed when we exited sometime after midnight. It's odd considering it was a Saturday night and I'm sure they could have captured some of the audience on the way out. Regardless it's a great little eatery tucked in below the ballroom.
Stopped by here to grab a sandwich and some beers on vacation and this place was really great. The bartenders were very nice and the food is out of bounds good. I had the Italian sub and definitely tasted like something you could get in Jersey or New York. Also wicked cheap to drink here which is also a plus.
Grabbed a snack and a beer before a concert and loved the queso deluxe! Brisket, cheese, and jalapenos are a quick way to my heart. I tried the iceberg drink also because who wouldn't want a float of margarita in their beer?! The service was just ok.
I think I've been to all the Bunk locations at this point. But Bunk Wonder is my favorite. There seems to be more on the menu there. Great specials. Love the vibe. Love the food. And parking! Oh my lord, there's parking!
Smoked Fried Chicken sandwich is insanely good.
This is a fun place to go before or after a show at the Wonder Ballroom. They also have a pretty good happy hour selection. It usually isn't too crowded during the after-work happy hour "rush," which is shocking considering the food offerings they have.
It's not my favorite place, but it's always solid and consistent. If you want food to put in your face so you don't feel hungry for a few hours, this is a decent place to do it. They've also got some funky art and an Elvira pinball machine.
I have enjoyed the food every time I have visited Trigger. I would tend to agree the staff can seem a bit indifferent at times and I too have had trouble with getting the correct order on 1 out of 3 visits. With all that said I will continue to go back as long as the food continues to be good and the staff is friendly and does a good job the majority of the time.
Simply done but executed deliciously. I enjoyed their Baby Buster shake (vanilla, banana, and cinnamon). Although I'm not sure what's busting about it because I've been impregnated by the sweet cream dairy overlords.
So good. Stubbled across this place walking home. Husband wanted a burger and lo and behold bunk bar appeared. What's this I see? a menu board with specials the cook pointed out to me. Yes, Two burgers pls and didn't even have to tell them to hold the tomato! The burger was juicy, the cheese was gooey, and it was delectable! Cheers to the cook and thank you for making us a flavorsome dinner!
My daughter recommended this since she used to work at Bunk Sandwiches. Had the Smoked Chicken Wings with Buttermilk dressing. Also for the entree had the Brisket Fajita. Very good. My only criticism would be in their beer selection. Being in Beervana (Portland) they should have some microbrews to serve. Other than that I enjoyed myself.
One of my fave places to catch a show. The sound is good and there's some space to move around, even at crowded shows. Pro tip: if there's a split for an all ages show, hang out on the sober side, more room and a better chance of getting up front!
