I stopped in for a drink. The atmosphere is good. The decor is very simplistic and modern. The bar is pretty small. They are pricey. The cheapest beer is 8 dollars. So, if you want to spend less than 30 dollars on a few beers and a snack then this place is not the place to go. Now, if you want to impress a lady... then this is your spot!
I had their main sausage dish served with sauerkraut and potatoes. Everything was very tasty, though strangely my favorite thing was the pretzel bread they serve you before your meal. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a moderately priced European cuisine.
Stopped in for a cocktail and a bite at the bar, and took the last two available seats. I had been a bit apprehensive to try Gruner, as I was worried that I wouldn't find enough to like on the alpine-oriented menu. I was pleasantly surprised - the deep fried oysters were good, the ricotta-nettle dumplings were terrific, and the drinks were fresh and inventive. The space is very attractive as well.
GREAT drinks and tasty (but heavy) food with terrific service. The Alpina is my new favorite drink, seriously! Start with a little sparkling (white)wine, add a dash of elderflower syrup and rose water and a fancy lemon peel and you have a glass of refreshing awesomeness.
The burger is good but greasy and the polenta croquettes stuffed with raclette cheese are delicious. Can't wait to go back and try the actual German portion of the menu!

This place should have more reviews. Raving reviews. The cocktails are awesome. The service is great. The bartenders are creative and really get into their craft. There is a charcuterie with tons of awesome cheese, fruit and bread. I love it here.
Don't eat anything other than the burger! My goodness that burger. Priced high, but it is seriously one of the best you will ever have. A high end burger that lives up to the name. Great jo-jos.
They do have outdoor seating for the summer. Make sure to make a reservation, because they can get busy.
The burger (only served at the bar) was absolutely amazing!!! A little spendy at $11 with no sides, but worth it. The German beer was $8 for a 20oz but again, delicious.
I'm not super into german food but I liked this place. The restaurant has a hip urban vibe to it, with a touch of ikea. Food was good, got the burger which was recommended in WW's Burgerquest article and liked it. Staff was very accommodating for our large party which was greatly appreciated!
The calf's liver and onions was excellent, sauted to just doneness (not the rubbery stuff we all grew up with).
I was a bit disappointed that the onions were not sauted with the liver or even in the same pan. They didn't get to contribute to each other except on the plate, and I found that some essence was missing. I also think a good potato salad (the traditional, vinegary German kind, of course) would have been a better accompaniment than mashed potatoes.
The drinks were very good. Interesting creations.
Straight up German food. Classical German, with some modern twists. Definitely worth going if you're curious or have a love of good German food.
