A girl with cropped green hair and a fur collar joins the coffee lineup. A beautiful twenty-something couple glide in with their perfect hair. Some older men, maybe Italian, grab a table in the corner and start gossiping. A young man and his daughter, with her milk and cookie, shyly join our communal table. Customers for Coava Coffee’s Brew Bar in Portland, Oregon, can’t fit a certain profile. So it’s no surprise that this isn’t an easy coffee shop to peg in a hole. That might be, in part, because Coava itself feels dramatically different from the average coffee house.
A new location for one of the top three coffee roasters in the city. So glad to have the second location in the Hawthorne area, their first location is wonderful but the parking is much more tight in the industrial Eastside and there's not much seating. This place will cater much better to the plug-in and work crowd

I had the pleasure of visiting Coava Coffee recently, and I must say, it's a coffee lover's paradise! The rich, robust flavors of their coffee are simply exceptional. What sets Coava apart is their commitment to using only the finest quality materials, resulting in a cup of coffee that's truly top-notch.
The atmosphere here is another highlight. It strikes the perfect balance between a cozy, welcoming vibe and a fun, energetic environment. Whether you're looking for a spot to have a quick business meeting or just want to catch up with a friend, Coava Coffee provides the ideal backdrop.
If you haven't been already, make it a point to stop by Coava Coffee – it's a must-visit destination for anyone who appreciates the art of coffee-making.
You can't do Portland without visiting the famous Coava coffee roasters. They have a few different locations throughout the city, this one's on Hawthorne. Decent cappuccino, friendly baristas. Huge seating space. Parking can get a bit tricky since it's most street parking.
I love the coffees here. They all taste so good. The drinking room is charming and cozy with a fireplace. The staff are very friendly a lot of coffee to choose from. As for the coffee beans, they have a lot more selection than a supermarket. Stay there and treat yourself for a nice cup of coffee.
Minimal approach to coffee that was much appreciated. There were no seasonal flavors and that usually means the coffee can stand on its own- and it really did. The latte with their own vanilla syrup and local honey was *perfection*. While the space leaves something to be desired, not a lot of places to sit, so don't expect to come in and drink your coffee all comfortable like. All that said- this was definitely one of the best lattes I'd had in Portland.
The coffee was excellent and we enjoyed the friendly and cozy atmosphere. The baristas were great too and took their time to tell us about each of their coffee beans so we could make an informed selection. The coffee beans have a little card about the producer inside, which is a nice, special touch. You also get a free drip coffee with purchase of beans which is a great bonus :)
Coffee is fantastic. We generally like our coffee mild with the roasting being secondary to the bean itself. A Coava cup is consistently well made and the beans perfectly roasted. You don't need to add sugar or other items to get a smooth tasty cup.
Excellent coffee and great atmosphere! Some of the best expresso I've had. It's a no frills place that just does everything the right way. Perfect place for coffee snobs and newbies. Will become my new regular spot on Hawthorne.
Great coffees and espressos, cozy atmosphere right on Hawthorne. The floor drops down a couple steps creating a unique tucked in atmosphere. I got here at 11am on a Sunday and it was basically packed. Lots of younger people with unique fashion and hairdoos. It's January and they kept the door open, the breeze felt nice and it wasn't all that cold. They offer two medium roasted espressos both from Central America, and various teas. I would recommend this place for small groups, coffee dates, or solo coffee outings.
I'm a daily regular here. It has the absolute best coffee in Portland! They roast their own beans, and the baristas are all great people and very friendly.
Delicious coffee in a not-so-busy part of Hawthorne St. We were happy to cozy up with a cappuccino after a flight and got great brunch recommendations from the baristas (and a local customer.)
