Stopped in while traveling through the area. Prepare to wait a bit if you’re dining on a weekend after 9:30 but they have a decent size waiting area. Felt homey. Prompt service, waitress was kind food came quick. Biscuits and gravy were OK - gravy was mildly bland and just smothered the biscuit. Wish there was ground sausage or something to break up the thick, blob of gravy. Would come back and try something else. Super affordable! Would easily pay $20 for 1 order of biscuits and gravy in Seattle but that was total cost of our bill for 2 orders.

The server Carrie is pure love and joy. In the hour we were there, she touched my heart and filled my soul with everything good. I wish I lived in Portland just so I could be in her presence on a regular basis. And the breakfast was absolutely fantastic. The chicken fried steak was the best I've ever had and the French toast was perfect. And I'd say that regardless of the amazing dose of love and positivity I left the with thanks to Carrie.

A nice place to stop for a classic diner breakfast with large portions, good service and a menu with a number of options. It was not busy on a Tuesday morning, and I was told to sit anywhere. I reviewed the menu and selected the three egg breakfast with country sausage, two pancakes, and a glass of orange juice. I received my order in about fifteen minutes with no problems. The country sausage was big and thick with good taste. The eggs were not overcooked and had good taste. The pancakes were huge and fluffy, but were not really hot. The butter did not melt on the lukewarm pancakes. Located on NE Halsey and 114th Avenue in the Gateway District of Portland. The breakfast and lunch menu is served all day. The lunch menu offers burgers, steaks, sandwiches and a number of other items. A great place for diner breakfast and lunch with good food, friendly service and famous for a stop by President Obama.

I've been wanting to go here for years and finally today was the day. I was not disappointed. Carrie was our server and she was awesome. Very friendly and attentive. Told us a funny joke. I had a cheese burger with fries and it was delicious. It was a large burger and it filled me up. My friend had the Ruben sandwich and it looked great. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are large. Can't wait to go back for breakfast.

My family loves this place. The service is always exceptional, even when they're busy as all get out. Our most recent trip I ordered on the light side and was still hungry, so I asked if I could get just one biscuit with gravy. The server said absolutely, went and put in the order, and came out with one in less than 2 minutes! It can get a little loud and the wait can be a little long on the weekends when they're busy, but it's completely worth the wait! I would 100% recommend coming here rather than the other over-priced, understaffed, and mediocre breakfast franchises.

Went in for our 1st time on Tuesday morning 9/12/23. Didn’t know what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised. It is small and cozy, but waitresses make you feel right at home and welcomed. Pointed out a table for us , we sat down, knew what we wanted to try and our server was right there ready! Received our food in about 10 minutes, super fast. We split the Country Breakfast which even for 2 people was a lot of food. Food was very good. Eggs cooked perfectly, hash brown looked like my home made ones, Cinnamon French Toast was the star! We noticed that as soon as someone left, they immediately cleared the table and all the dirty dishes, and washed it off and reset it. The servers that were there were very efficient very courteous, and very nice to us. Water never ran dry. They were right there refilling it. Even though it was packed full of people it really never felt crowded because you got wonderful individual service from your servers. We will be back. Prices are very decent. This is our new favorite place. Glad we found it.

Food was pretty good, of course no one does country gravy like I had growing up, but no fault of Gateway Bfast House. The portions are more than enough and food came out decently quick for how busy they were at the time. Prices are very fair for the amount of food. The restaurant itself is quite small, but that feeds their, seemingly intended environment, as it seems they like and enjoy the small diner feel. They have some funny signs up around the room as well. I will be back, but I'll pump the brakes on the chicken fried steak and eggs... Have to try the t-bone and eggs next time. My wife had some French toast with her meal and that was amazing. Service was really good. Never once had an empty coffee cup, nor did I have to ask for a top off, the ladies there that day were on it for sure!

This is where President Obama ate breakfast while in Portland Oregon many years ago! They have His booth Memorized! Plus the food is A 1! Get anything on the menu and then enjoy because it's all good!

I have not been there in a long time. It is a very original style breakfast Cafe. I had eggs with sausage six was supposed to be like kielbasa bit it tasted like a hot dog. Disappointing. I let my friend taste it also he thought the same thing. Also they do not Have GF bread and don't offer a substitute. Server were very nice and very attentive. I probably will not go back as I was not impressed but they have a lot of loyal customers.
