I cannot say enough good things about this place! Service: Exceptional. My server, Robert, was wonderful. He explained the day's menu and informed about the changes that had been made as well as the special of the day. When I told him that I was interested in having the black pepper cheesecake for dessert, he noted that there were only two left and offered to put one aside for me. Food: Phenomenal!! I ordered the polenta clafouti with shiitake mushrooms. At first bite, my eyes widened in awe and delight and the only thought that ran through my mind was "what is this amazing concoction that I've just put into my mouth?!" I've had polenta before but never like this. There's a hint of cheese, with the shiitake mushrooms adding a little depth of flavor. It's somewhat like a souffle with a creamy, custardy center. The portion may appear to be small, but for me it was just right. Anything bigger would have seemed too heavy due to the richness of the dish, but the portion size makes it seem like a light meal. Which left me room for . . . dessert!! Onto the black pepper cheesecake! It is light, creamy, fluffy, and oh so good. You get a tiny hint of the black pepper. Perfect ending to a perfect lunch. But wait, it gets better! Of course, I couldn't leave without getting one of their famous currant rosemary scones, so I ordered one at the end. By that time, the tab had already been printed but the waitress said she would add the scone on as well. When the bill came, I noted to her that the scone wasn't included. With a smile, she told me that it was on the house!! That made my day!! I would highly recommend stopping here for lunch. Quality and super service with a smile. I traveled all the way from California to try this place and would do so again gladly. You can bet I'm coming back the next time I'm in Portland!!

I'm a regular (once a week unless I'm on vacation). I've eaten almost everywhere in the Portland area and this is one of my top places to eat and #1 for lunch. The food is divine, the setting charming and the service gracious. I've never eaten anything here I didn't love! It is a delight for all the senses and Portland gem and a must visit for anyone wanting to eat in Portland.

Absolutely amazing gem which totally can be called hidden. Didn't really expect to have such a soulful hospitality, amazing food and beautiful cozy interior. Definitely gonna recommend this place to my friends and will come back next time in Portland.

Absolutely wonderful gourmet-French-Scandi dining experience. The lemon soufflé was extraordinary - one of the best I've ever had. The lions head mushroom schnitzel had dynamite flavor but could have been a little crisper in my opinion. The halibut was like butter! Amazing! Hollandaise was perfect as promised. Great ambiance from the staff's clothing to the bathroom decoration. Staff was knowledgeable and helpful, asked about allergies, and even made recommendations for other restaurants. My only problem was that I like to pay cash and they are cashless.

Maurice is a long-time favorite of mine in downtown Portland. It is an oasis of charm, warmth, light and attention to every detail, a reflection of the care taken by superstar chef-owner Kristen Murray in this very personal place. A “pastry luncheonette” means a tiny, daytime-only spot offering a small, seasonal menu of savory and sweet things—handwritten daily by Kristen to reflect what she finds at the market and feels like cooking and baking. All of the deliciousness on the plate is complemented by her thoughtful selection of wines by the glass, teas and other drinks. Run, don’t walk, to Maurice.

Four years .. and Maurice’s excellence continues unabated. The food, the service and satisfaction that comes from a team who loves what they do. Making Portland proud - this unique PNW lunch / brunch experience ranks a “must.’ Highly recommend💕 - and 4 years in between visits to Portland & Maurice .. much too long!

Friendly staff and charming overall ambience. The quiche is amazing in its texture. Some of the other dishes felt like they were a bit expensive for what they were, although it's clear a lot of craft and care goes into each dish.

I went for a late breakfast but I recommend this place for lunch. The menu looks amazing. The place is small and cozy a block away from Powell books. I had a toast with poached eggs and a house vermut. Very PNW pretty food

A magical place on Earth! Chef Kristen and her team brought one of the best tasting menus (Fri - Sat dinner and Sunday brunch) to PDX area and the best tea pairing I've experienced!

It’s the details that matter. Subtle details and intricacies abound, which are reflected in the way food is made here! Had a phenomenal light lunch and ordered a host of very peculiar pastries, a delicious orange wine from the area, and the claimed to fame Quiche. All were praiseworthy in their own right. Definitely worth a stop for lunch. Minimal wait. The service was great too! Hint: Order the honey teacake, the black pepper cheesecake, the pear tart, or the plum brioche. All spectacular.

The most perfect little French cafe! I’ve never encountered such a light, delicate, flavorful scone, literally melts in the mouth. Everything was just beautiful. Their pastries make other pastries, which had previously been enticing, seem somehow crude by comparison. The atmosphere was marvelous too. The perfect music for the environment, helping create the mood and no barrier to quiet conversation. The food highlight of our trip.

Nice, light, fresh food with creative ingredients. I would come back, possibly outside of morning and lunch rush since their space is so tight. I docked a star for a handwritten menu that was very hard to read and understand. But the waitress was very detailed and helpful in her explanation.
