Excellent food and awesome customer service. We enjoyed the chicken Kati roll, Gobi Manchurian, Goan-Style Shrimp, but the Pork Vindaloo was the absolute best!!! I'd fly 4 hours just for that! This place is a must stop if you are visiting Portland or if you live here, a weekly must have!

Loved it..tried the pork vindaloo which was on point, the chicken curry and Goan shrimp. Lamb samosas, beef kati roll and bhel puri were really good too.

This is by far the most interesting place serving Indian food! I absolutely loved the decor and the food is outstanding. You can’t stop yourself, it is that good! A must visit for everyone 💖

Great ambience. Good service. Awesome food . I was surprised to find close to authentic Indian street food in Portland. It's a definite pit stop for sub continental asians . It's a great treat to your palette. The roasted corn cob and kathi roll are my personal favorites. It has a wide range of vegetarian varieties . Vegan guys this place can offer you many good options. Can't wait to visit again .

Authentic Indian Street Food with a mix of Bollywood Ambience.. This is a must visit place for everyone, whether you have tried Indian cuisines in past or not. You are definitely going to love it. And Don't worry nothing is too spice for your taste buds. I will not recommend any specific dish because whatever I tried there from Kathi Rolls to Aloo Tikki to Pao Bhaji, Paratha Chole, everything was excellent. I was in Portland for 2 days only still I managed to have 4 meals in Bollywood Theatre. Here is a BIG THUMBS UP to the team for bringing up a place like this

Have heard a lot about this place, and it didn't disappoint us. We arrived around 6 in the evening, and the queue was till the street. After waiting for 30 mins, we were able to place our order and got a seat (in this restaurant, one needs to order first and then take a table, servers do not take order at the table). The ambiance is fantastic, reminds of old hindi movies, houses, stores, etc.

We had pav bhaji (super good), paneer makhani (again super good), tikki chat (average, need more chatni and spices), coconut dal (pathetic as had spinach n big carrots, that were not going well with dal), with paranthas (highly recommended). My non veg friends got keema samosa n prawns which they loved. Among drinks, ginger lime was the best, mango lassi was close second, plain lassi lacked sweetness though.

Ask the staff what they'd eat. They always give the best recommendations! Best values: Kati roll (huge portion for the price!) and pork vindalu w buttered rolls (I fantasize about these!). Also the drinks are tasty but a bit pricey.

Absolutely loved the ambience of Bollywood theatre. Gives you the feeling of sitting at a roadside restaurant in India. Had the Pav bhaji and vada Pav. The patty of the vada Pav was very nice but the sauces overpowered the patty. Overall great attempt to recreate Indian street food.

Jumping on the Hurray For Bollywood Bandwagon. There is something about hanging and snooping around Alberta Street that stirs memories from my increasingly distant past about similar entertaining areas in San Diego...Ocean Beach, Mission Beach, and Pacific Beach. Kind of funky, interesting, and full of some great places to tie on the old feedbag....even if this Portland area is devoid of a nearby ocean. Having meant to give Bollywood Theater (hereinafter "BT") a try, it suddenly popped onto our horizon as we were taking a pre-lunch stroll down the Alberta St., doing active recon for our mid-day meal....sort of our version of hunting, but without the guns.

I have read the myriad of positive reviews of BT on Urbanspoon , and I must say that after dining there, I pretty much agree with most of the expressed buzz. Initially, the shock of a line out the door is off-putting. But the ordering taking process is truly efficient, and the line moves quickly. The tough thing here is to whittle down your order to a managable size, given the many interesting choices available. I was mindful of a master reviewer's previous bad salinity experience with the Pork Vindaloo, so I took a different pathway to culinary nirvana. Order up! We started with the Pakoras, stuffed and fried with green tomatoes. I could not immediately give this dish 2 thumbs up because I was to busy dipping them into a very delicious tomato/raisin chutney and placing them ever so non-gently in my mouth. What a dish! Perfectly fried, and stuffed with a very interesting ingredient. After a complete wipeout of this dish, my 2 thumbs drifted skyward towards the heavens. Next up were the Samosas, which also were very good. I think they would be better with the property sauces and chutneys, and here was the only minor problem we encountered. I foolishly and negligently did not order a side of Raita and extra chutneys. What was I thinking? By the time I realized a need for these items, the line to the order cashier was even longer than when we came into the place. So, I pulled up my big boy pants (which would be tighter by meal's end), and tried the hot pepper "chutney" provided at the "get your own utensils and water station." This chutney did not do it for me, as it was too one sided and unbalanced (hot). A dab of the sweet tomato chutney from the Pakoras definitely kick it up a half a notch. Sweet or sour is definitely good with hot.

The Kati rolls are the real deal. In an effort to maintain tranquility in my relationship with a loving non-meat eater, the order was for the Paneer cheese model.... My meatless friend here was so tasty that I forgot for a moment that I would have ordered a meat version if left to my own devices. You definitely will enjoy all aspects of this dish, but especially the wrap cooked on egg prior to the stuff and roll. If you go to BT, and fail to order a Kati Roll of some type, there will be a huge void in your culinary life. Even though I passed on the Pork Vindaloo, I went down the wish list of the same master reviewer, and ordered the Chicken Curry and Goan Style Shrimp. Both dishes, which came with rice, were quite good and strangely... were under salted. Do they read the Urbanspoon reviews? If so, great job! A dash of salt brought the dishes back to a great place. I am always mindful of my favorate teaching chef telling us to taste, taste, taste each dish prior to sending it out. Perhaps that is why chefs get bigger over the years. I could have used some Raita and an order of garlic naan with the dishes, but again that was my fault here.

There were many more items on the menu that I would like to try on the menu, as well as revisiting some of the best past new friends. Maybe, I will even be brave enough to tackle the controversial Pork Vindaloo at some point. The mark of a very good eating establishment is that your plates were strangely so clean that you were shockingly too full to go next store and have ice cream at Salt and Straw! I knew that tasty beer was going to get in the way. Jumping off the BT bandwagon with full bellies is certainly a tougher task, but like Gen. McArthur exclaimed on his departure, "we shall return," although at our age jumping in any upward direction gets a bit more challenging with each day and food cycle.

Insanely good Indian. Just found this place a few weeks ago and have been twice...Bollywood Theater is my new go-to Indian restaurant. The first time we went in, there was a line out the door and we almost skipped it, but I am happy we didn't! The place was packed but the owner runs such an efficient operation that we were able to get our food and drinks within about 20 minutes. Speaking of the owner, we saw him working alongside his staff running food and ensuring guest satisfaction. We would not have known who the owner was had we not checked out the website and watched the video prior to going in (BTW watch it!). I LOVE the Bhel Puri, and the Kati Roll and I haven't found a menu item I have been disappointed with yet. When we went back on our second Indian food fix on a mellow Sunday afternoon we received the same efficient service and excellent food!

Best decor and atmosphere of any Indian restaurant . You need to order food the counter and gets delivered to you table. Roll and Fried Okra are the staple of this place. Rest of the food options are ok at best. If you are looking for authentic Indian food - look elsewhere. Decent Americanized Indian food. They also have a small shop with Indian spices and other Indian items.

I HIGHLY RECOMMMEN VADA PAV!! Vada Pav here is by far the best I have ever had!! I might be forgetting, but I don’t remember having such a great vada pav even in India. I have been eating at least one vada pav every time I visit either of Bollywood Theater locations since 2019 and the taste has been consistently great. It has improved over time if anything at all. My wife loves Pav Bhaji also here. Other than Vada Pav, I recommend Paneer Kathi roll and chai! Excellent ambiance and amazing service.

Excellent twist on traditional Indian fair. The food is very fresh and the spices for each dish are exotic and took me straight to flavor town. Might I recommend the masala margarita! Such an interestingly delicious bev. The walk-up counter service is actually quite nice, we arrived at 7:30PM on a weekday and it seemed like the rush had just died down — short wait and plenty of tables. The interior is thoughtfully decorated and feels quite cozy. I’ll definitely be coming back here!

Ordered the South Indian curry and Chai, they were both great. Excellent spice levels and good for two people to share with an extra side of rice. The Chai was great for a sore throat. The atmosphere reminds me of a Disney imagination of India but in a good way.

I absolutely love Bollywood theater. No other restaurant in Portland has given such excellent food that shows how delicious Indian food can be. This is one of the few restaurants in Portland where you very commonly see people of this heritage actually eating at the restaurant that is making food from that heritage. The food is amazing, the drinks are great, the service is very reasonable and easy and the design of the restaurant is top tier. The lights and outdoor seating options just add so much variety. This is one of those places where you go once a month and it's the best treat. Couldn't recommend enough, the Thali meals are amazing.

The decor was eccentric specially the bathrooms. They have a limited menu. Most items we ordered tasted great. The Vadapav and Pav Bhaji were favorites. Bhelpuri is also another vegetarian option. My husband tried the chicken curry and thought it was alright. The lemon lime soda was refreshing.

I’ve tried to find a great Indian restaurant and I think I finally found one! I’d been wanting to try Bollywood Theater for a while and it lived up to my expectations. Loved the pork vindaloo (and it really wasn’t that spicy) but what I’m still thinking about is those delicious buttery rolls! Oh man…now I’m thinking about how delicious that meal was and I’m wanting it right now… 🤤

Love this spot. Great place to watch a Bollywood flick and eat tasty Indian street food. They have a big space for indoor seating and covered outdoor seating. The pork vindaloo is amazing and the beet salad is a great palate cleanser for in between the tasty hot dishes.
