Tamale Boy maybe small inside but this place huge on flavor, great service and atmosphere. The fresh seasonal menu is always spectacular with delicious staples as well - carnitas burrito is one of my favorites. Recent patio improvements have made outside eating year round treat.
We loved the authentic flavor of the food! The locale was convenient as we were traveling on vacation. The patio was fantastic and I hope to come back someday to sit around the fire pits at night with a margarita in my hand. Well done Tamale Boy (and girls)!
I live 5 houses from here so I've tried a LOT of things and loved everything. But one thing I really wanted to give a special shout out for was brunch! Great covered and open outdoor seating and the brunch menu is insanely good. They brought back brunch after 3 years of not having it and it is amazing. The picture below was literally $10 for a hefty 3 egg meal that was probably one of the best meals I've had in Portland so far. Don't sleep on brunch here!!!!
I ordered from the lunch menu, Huevos Montados, three over easy on top of three crispy tostadas with bean and salsa. There was not enough bean on there. They gave you a lot of salsa. Salsa was good. Eggs were cook perfectly. Order at the window and they take food to your table. Self serve water.
Really amazing tamales that are huge and super cheap. A burrito sized tamale is about $5-6/each.
There is only outdoor seating. But the area is large and half of it is covered from rain. The outdoor seating is great for couples or large groups. You can order drinks at tamale boy. Or you can get drinks from the bottle shop in the same complex.
Very cool atmosphere. I recommend coming here for a weekend lunch or a after work dinner.
More of Outdoor Bar than we thought it would be. Which we liked. Lots of people were there to party. The food was fine. Some nights the outdoor area is full - Other nights it is practically empty.
OMG. Everything was delicious. The tamales were huge! We got mole, cochinita pibil and rajas. The Brussels Sprouts were great! The jicama and watermelon salad was so fresh. Can’t wait to visit again!!
Tamale Boy is a great Portland staple. Lots of great authentic Mexican food at a decent price. Order online line, pick up, or eat there. Beers, horchata, taps, lots of local options at a decent price. There is never a long wait to sit or to get your food. The covered heated patio is great. The tacos are fabulous, and the queso and chips and salsa are great. I love the Tinga de Pollo. Plenty of veggie options for that vegetarian in you.
Love tamale boy. Had not eaten here in a frw years and i had totally forgotten how good their burritos were. The carnitas is amazeballs.
This is a hidden Portland gem. We visited on an extremely hot day which is the only reason I can think why their large covered patio was not packed. The portions are generous with fresh ingredients prepared traditionally. Let's just say the tamales aren't wrapped in a corn husk. We will be back soon!
Hands down best Mexican food in our neighborhood. It is not your run of the mill menu, its fancy. But affordable and great for dine in or take out. Tamale Boy is absolutely on our monthly take out rotation and a fun place to bring visitors too!
We came upon this little spot when we couldn’t dine in at another place close by. They had only outdoor seating at the time and the weather was nice. The patio was pretty neat and had several wooden benches. When we ordered, we had questions about the food and the guy taking our order didn’t seem to be much help. We ordered the burrito bowl with chicken and al pastor. The food came out hot and tasty. The chips and salsa we ordered was fine. The salsa didn’t have much flavor and we wished we got the pico de gallo with the chips because it was really good on the bowl. Two Mexican cokes to top off the meal. The food was good, but pricey for what you get.
