Texas approved. Beans and rice had good flavor. Margaritas were really good. All around good experience.
We had a good meal. The top shelf margaritas were awesome. The beef quesadilla on the Ala carte menu was bigger than expected. Good service. The place is very clean.
A FOODIE’S DELIGHTFUL ENJOYMENT OF AUTHENTIC MEXICAN CUISINE 👏👏👏, all food cooked to order. None of those fast food tacos and wraps made with bottled red sauces and dead grated yellow cheeses.
The restaurant itself has a lovely ambience. The staff are very courteous and attentive.
The menu clearly has all the ingredients of the tastes of Mexico🇲🇽: Corn tortillas, green and red chilies, white (not black) beans, fresh white cheeses (queso fresco, not yellow processed cheese-like products) , guacamole salads, and flavorful Mexican rice. For alcohol, there’s a selection of Mexican beers and cocktails made with premium tequilas and mezcal. 😎😎😎
Choose from any of the Parrilla Campesina 👏👏👏, which highlight entrees of grilled meats mixed with al dente vegetables that are very juicy and perfectly cooked with simple seasoning. None of those thick sauces (usually from a bottle) used commonly by fast food joints and fake mexican eateries. For the uninitiated, go for the Cazuelda. It’s the best example of unadulterated Mexican food🤩🤩🤩 one may ever taste in America.
Choose also from the Especialidades👏👏👏 for classic Mexican favorites, such as Mole, Tamales, Flautas and Chili Rellenos.
And also from the Enchiladas 👍👍👍 for classic Mexican flavors: try the Verde, Mole, or Mexicana. You’ll never go back to the fast food ones😎😎😎.
BTW, always always choose the corn tortillas NOT the wheat flour ones, the latter apparently is being (reluctantly) offered a choice as it’s a familiar one to some people.
For those who somehow prefer the familiar burritos and some of enchiladas, which are Cal Mex and Tex Mex NOT authentic Mexican, there’s a small selection. SURPRISINGLY, this place manages to elevate these American inventions with true Mexican flavors. While I’m not a fan of the four tortilla, go for the California Burrito, it’s as good as one might savor in food stalls in metro San Diego.
Pittsburgh has clearly a great place for Mexican dining. Enjoy 🌴🌴😃😃
Great place, great service, and great food! Felt like I was sinking into my cushy seat, but all in all, a good Mexican restaurant with affordable and delicious food and drinks.
One of the best Mexican stops in the area! Amazing food, great service, and many great value options! My only slight complaint is that it can get pretty loud when it's busy (if it isn't busy, perfectly fine!), so if you're sensitive to that, go with caution during prime time hours.
It hit a special spot. Everything was just cheesy, well-seasoned, and filling. Also the first place I've had in months that has a good chile relleno and didn't have random vegetables in the rice. Great service too, definitely try this place.
$$ Very friendly and polite servers. Food is delicious with generous portions. The mole sauce is a must try. The creamiest, best flan I've ever had (outside of my own). Definitely recommend the Camarones Mojo De Ajo and the Enchiladas De Mole. Great for a date, family or a celebratory event. Even on a busy weekend night the service is fast and the food is so fresh. Can't wait to go back.
We went for a Wednesday Happy Hour. The fajitas were very good. The enchiladas rancheros were just ok. I'd recommend the fajitas. The really bad part was the margaritas. They were pretty light on alcohol but that's ok coz they're discounted. Umm, they were $12 each after the happy hour discount.
We'll maybe go back for food but will only be having water. It felt a little misleading when I asked how much the margaritas were during happy hour and he just responded that they're $1 off.
Great frozen margaritas, and homemade chips & salsa to start. Be sure to order guacamole, too. Almost everything comes with rice, refried beans, and/or a small salad. Entree portions are large, so either shareable or leftovers to take home. Also enjoy the food at El Campesino.
We tried this place recently for the first time. We moved to Pittsburgh a few months ago from the south and have been very disappointed in the quality of Mexican restaurant here, in general. After trying 3-4 spots, I think this restaurant is currently the top performer for us. Nothing crazy about it, but just good, decent food, good portions, good wait staff. We'll come back again.
