Best Authentic Mexican food I have had since Cozumel! Seriously a wonderful dining experience. I can not recommend this restaurant highly enough. Luis the server was amazing, attentive, and funny. A new regular customer was created today! Already want Plaza Azteca for dinner because of my top notch lunch experience.
Plaza Azteca is just what this area needed! Easily one if the best margaritas and the best Mexican food I've had since moving to PA 5 years ago!
We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday, and it was really good. It wasn't too busy and we didn't have to wait. The waiter was very friendly and quick. The food was very tasty and came super fast! The fountain soda was crisp and delicious. The free salsa was yummy and spicy. We had enchiladas and a burrito, and both were really good. We will definitely be back.

The restaurant's location couldn't have been better! Situated in a prime area, it was easy to find and had ample parking space. Whether you're a local or a tourist, this spot is worth a visit. Plus, they serve the best margaritas in town, making it an ideal destination for a fun night out with friends or family
About the Place:

I had a delightful experience at this restaurant! The atmosphere was clean and welcoming, setting the perfect mood for a delicious meal. The staff provided excellent service, ensuring we had everything we needed throughout our visit. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the mouthwatering Chicken and Shrimp Sizzler served with corn tortillas. The flavors were out of this world, and the presentation was top-notch. The enchiladas with corn sauce were simply amazing, a true testament to the chef's culinary expertise.
When we visited the restaurant, it wasn't crowded because there was a Steelers game during that time. The interior had a cool historical stone theme, which I really liked. The Mexican music added to the ambiance as well. Every server were extremely friendly and provided thorough explanations. I ordered a mojito and shrimp enchiladas. The mojito had a lot of flavor and came in a large glass. The enchiladas were the best I've ever had! The shrimp was delicious, and I also enjoyed the sauce. It was pretty cheap with the big food and great service. I will definitely be returning in the future!
Wonderful experience. Our server was really attentive. He was a bit pushy though as far as sales. I don’t tip on the amount of the bill. I tip on service. But he was nice. Our food was extremely hot and delicious! Atmosphere was a bit dark but comfortable. But I’d prefer a frosted glass for my beer as it was a bit on the room temperature side. Made me not even wanna finish it. There’s plenty of parking and handicapped accessible.
10 stars!!! Not sure how this place doesn't have 5 star rating?! The place has an amazing atmosphere, food is delicious, portions are insane, and staff are awesome! The margarita was just FABULOUS! 🍸 Many thanks to Paco, our waiter, he was lovely!!
I can’t believe I had not tried this restaurant all this while. The food is unbelievably amazing. 10/10 recommend this place.
The ambience and service was great as well!
The meal kicked off with their mouthwatering chips and salsa, a true testament to authentic flavors. The salsa had the perfect balance of spice and freshness, and the chips were delightfully crispy.
For the main course, I opted for the Carne Asada Enchiladas and my dining partner chose the Chicken Fajitas. The Carne Asada Enchiladas were a burst of flavor – tender beef wrapped in a soft tortilla, topped with a rich and flavorful corn sauce that left me craving for more.
The Chicken Fajitas were equally impressive – the sizzling platter arrived with perfectly grilled chicken, accompanied by a medley of colorful peppers and onions. The aroma was irresistible, and the taste simply divine.
What truly sets this restaurant apart is the attention to detail and the dedication to maintaining authentic Mexican flavors. The ingredients were fresh, the portions generous, and the presentation impeccable.
Overall, this restaurant exceeded my expectations in every way. If you're craving authentic Mexican cuisine, impeccable service, and an inviting atmosphere, look no further. I can't wait to return and explore more of their delectable offerings!
Where have I even been and have I ever even lived?! This place is amazing! The entire atmosphere is set with awesome decor and attention to detail everywhere! I'm mad for never having checked this place out in the entire 8yrs I've been around Pittsburgh! Definitely don't sleep on this one, it's a fantastic spot for Mexican cuisine! Also it saved me a good lil' drive from where I used to go for Mexican food, but this is definitely the go to now! 10/10 recommend, we'll definitely be back! 😁😎
Pictured we have Fajita Chicken & Steak Nachos and the Chicken & Spinach Quesadillas. 🍽 The complimentary Chips & Salsa are excellent as well!
For drinks, it's Acapulco Bay and Michelada cocktails! 🍹
If you're in the mood for a kitchy American Mexican restaurant, this place is great, and I'd give it a "best in class" rating for this category.
Let's start with the decor. It's nice, clean, spacious, and would be over the top of it weren't so meticulously done. To be clear, I've never been to Mexico, and certainly not to any actual Aztec temple, but it definitely feels like they went all in on trying to create an atmosphere. It's kind of what I would expect the Disney version of "Aztec" to look like, kind of a theme park ride. Cool if you can get past the nagging sense of gross cultural appropriation. It was a Thursday night and this restaurant was nextdoor to our hotel.
Like many American Mexican places the menu is overwhelming until you realize that it's a hundred permutations on the same seven ingredients, and fifty shades of margarita. Again, my elitist foodie snobbery gives way to a grudging respect for their commitment to turn everything up to eleven. They absolutely got way more creative than I expected, and I'm glad I went based on that alone.
For example, one of our first cocktails took the concept of "smoky mezcal" to a new level, serving the drink topped with a burning cinnamon stick. The cinnamon stick was fully on fire with no obvious way to extinguish it without dunking it in the drink and imbibing the ashes. Our server seemed to have no appreciation of the dilemma, and we just looked at him incredulously until he carried the flaming stick away somewhere.
I give them props for the creativity of their cocktails--one of mine was garnished with an actual orchid--but balance wasn't one of their criteria. All the drinks we had were cloyingly sweet variations on adult Kool aid, great if that's what you're in the mood for.
I really liked that they served complimentary house made chips and salsa like the "good ol' days," and the salsa actually had some kick to it.
Our entrees were well prepared but ENORMOUS! We got one of the more expensive house specialties that was served in a huge, hot, heavy iron bowl. It's a good thing we liked it because we ended up getting five meals out of it! You almost got the sense that they price them by the pound--my guess is that there were at least two pounds of food served in a single dish.
At any rate, I think it's clear that I have mixed feelings about this place. On the one hand, at it's heart Plaza Azteca is just another variation on the typical American Mexican restaurant. On the other, they've taken this concept, doubled down on it, and taken it to a whole new level. In other words, while they may have chosen to go in a dubious direction, I give them full marks for going the extra mile. At the end of the day, the food was good, and we absolutely got what we paid for.
I visited Plaza Azteca for the first time a few weeks ago and I haven't stopped thinking about it since! Chips and salsa are complimentary with your food. The salsa has a great kick to it. Service was super fast. Enchiladas have that homemade tortilla taste with delicious fillings. Beef and chicken is the way to go! House margarita is reasonably priced although if you treat yourself to a specialty margarita, it will be worth the cost! Highly recommend Bonita Blue! Table side guacamole is a must for a first time visitor as well!

Went on a Saturday evening and there was no wait. Our waitress was friendly. Food came out really quick, chips and salsa are free and delicious. We really enjoyed our food, my husband got a chimichanga and I got a burrito. Great portions and flavors, everything tasted fresh, especially compared to other Mexican restaurants we have been to. We will be back!
