This little spot is a gem. The service is phenomenal, and the food is stellar. The very nice server guided me through the menu to the items I had seen featured online. The Chongqing Chicken was the highlight, but the dan dan noodles were packed with flavor. Don't sleep on the chili oil wontons.

The dish there is authentic. We ordered two lunch special. Both are very good, but the 农家小炒肉 was the highlight! The fermented soybean really lightens up the dish and adds more layers to the flavor. Service was great too. Should've ordered some more to go!

This place would be my favorite restaurant whenever I want to eat Chinese food. If you want to enjoy authentic Chinese food, you should visit here.

Fantastic experience. The triple green vegetable with chicken is awesome. The spicy chicken with flaming pan is tasty and aesthetically amazing to see. We tried the egg drop, wonton, and hot and sour soups. They were good as well. And finally the chicken egg roll was piping hot and crispy. Will definitely be back! This is definitely up there with Chinatown Inn and Sesame Inn, if you're familiar with those two spots.

***update Nov2023 (a year since last post) A very consistent FOODIE’S GEM OF AUTHENTIC CHINESE GASTRONOMY🤩🤩🤩. It’s among TOP 5 Authentic Chinese restaurants in Pittsburgh. This is unlike the vast majority of similar places in this city that serve chinese-style (generally greasy soy-seasoned) food that pervades America. This the “older sister” of Chengdu Gourmet North Hills owned by the same award-winning Chef and Restauranteur👏👏👏. Both restaurants have MENUS FOR AUTHENTIC CHINESE SEPARATED FROM AMERICAN CHINESE-STYLE foods. For those familiar with both restaurants, there are listings here not served in the other, and vice versa. I RECOMMEND TO VISIT THEM BOTH. 😎😎😎Having just returned from another trip to China, it’s really delightful to refresh one’s palate with Authentic Chinese gustatory flavors😎😎😎. Silken sauces (brown and white), flavorful broths, natural sweetness and crunchiness of vegetables, lean meats or meats with well-rendered fats, fragrant spices, tempered chilies and lovely teas. This is a place that merits repeated visits to savor authentic Chinese cuisine 🤩🤩🤩. It’s unassuming, not a white-table cloth restaurant, the dining room here looks typical of small to medium-sized eateries in Shanghai and Hong Kong and authentic places in Chinatowns in SF, NYC and Chicago. Service is very good. +++++ A FOODIE’S GEM. TOP 3 AUTHENTIC CHINESE in Pittsburgh. The owner/chef is a James Beard Award Semifinalist few years running including 2022. I (with friends/colleagues) have been here several times and never disappointed. AUTHENTIC Chinese fare, well seasoned and flavorful; very much unlike the awful unhealthy american “Chinese” food that has overtaken much of America. The menu is rather longish, but I overlook it because of the wide variety of entrees that reminded me of my past trip to PRC. The menu is a reason to keep visiting to savor both the traditional Szechuan and the much elevated americanized listings. My recommendations as of July 2022: Teasmoked Duck, Homestyle Zhu cubed duck, Braised pork shoulder, Bokchoy w black mushrooms, Flaming multi mushroom, Kung pao chicken chengdu style, Smoked pork belly, Eggplant w green beans, Pork w woodear mushrooms, Shredded pork w bamboo shoots, Pan fried hot peppers. And, black or jasmine tea (unsweetened) that is not only aids digestion but also it cleanses the palate savor delicate flavors and textures. Very highly recommended 😎🤙

Everything is so flavorful and pretty affordable especially for lunch! Staff is very nice and it has a very relaxed atmosphere to it. Might be my new favorite spot in Squirrel Hill

The cuisine is absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. There is a dish to suit anyone’s individual tastes or preferences. The wait staff are welcoming and are happy to answer any of your questions when choosing a meal. Chengdu Gourmet is a staple of Squirrel Hill and, in my opinion, is well worth trying.

My family's been going here for years, especially around Christmastime when other places are closed. The food is remarkable - at par with the other heavyweight Sichuan spot in Pittsburgh, Yue Bai Wei. I'm a huge fan of the Shredded Potato with Hot Pepper, their Ma Po Tofu, hand cabbage, and eggplant with garlic sauce. Last time I was here, the service was comically unfriendly - the servers seemed resentful that we were there. However, the food was great so this didn't bother us. Definitely order off of their Sichuan menu (the black menu, in person). If you want American Chinese food, you probably don't need to come here of all places

Very reliable for great Chinese food (American style or more authentic). We order out from here once a week. The food is always good, it's already ready quickly, and they (almost) never mess up the orders. My favorite dish is general Tao's tofu and my wife's favorite is the scallion pancake.

Came here for Chinese New Year, super friendly staff and lots to chose from on the menu. Seafood dish was really tasty so was the sirloin dish. Glass noodle dish with minced pork was surprisingly spicy but worth the tears. Veggies were a bit too salty, but still good. Overall good experience.
