First impressions exceeded expectations when I walked into Brookside Market this evening. It was early, 5:15 pm, but the restaurant was already busy. I placed a large takeout order at 4:30 and was told 45 minutes. I had to wait an extra 10 minutes but I was totally fine with that. It's to be expected with a new restaurant. Especially in Jacksonville, where a new restaurant is pretty much the most exciting thing in town haha.
Back to first impressions: hip, great deli, spectacular pizza oven, more dining space than I expected, great open kitchen to watch the action, plenty of staff to take care of the crowds... really couldn't ask for much else. Except the food.
The order I placed was for 7 people and spanned much of the menu. I'll start with the good. Pizza pizza pizza... out of this world pizza. The burger. The meat was juicy and perfectly cooked.
Beyond these two items, I want impressed... and in one dish I was served raw chicken. I won't go into detail on the bad. I want to give Brookside a chance. The menu looks fantastic and I really want them to succeed.
Welcome to the neighborhood Brookside. I am sincerely looking forward to round two... I'll give it a few weeks.

What a comfortable place to have a fabulous meal! From the warm smiles and friendly greetings from the staff to the special conversation and treatment from owner/operator, Casey Brooks. Convenience and homemade comfort foods make Brookside Market our ‘go to’ place.
My partner and I stopped here for lunch on a whim, and we were not disappointed. It was hard to choose what to get, because everything on the menu looked amazing. I was also surprised to see the wide selection of wine and beer available. I decided on the Italian cold cut, and my partner got the Spicy Castellano. Both sandwiches were delicious and packed with high quality meats. Our food was brought out to us on their spacious patio when it was ready. We can’t stop thinking about this place, and we’ll definitely be back! (Spicy Castellano pictured)
Used to have the best cream of crab soup and crab cakes around but unfortunately decided to discontinued both. Still have a few good entrees but would like to see dinner menu expanded to add more beef and seafood entrees. Small local place also with a nice outdoor picnic table area.
First time eating here. Wow, really enjoyed what we ordered. Now we'll have to go back and try the soups
Good food, staff was friendly but not overly attentive. Prices were a bit steep, but portions were decent. Lots of strawberries on the salad. Shrimp taco had a sweet and spicy sauce.
This place is very quickly becoming one of my favorite places. Great for lunch or pick up and go. Killer cold cuts, great burger and friendly service. My personal favorite is the Kastendikes Way sandwich.
