We came here once before with some friends for date night. The food & drinks were good. We came back to enjoy the food and atmosphere. ☺️
Had an opportunity to stop for lunch with family. You have to try this place! Poncho’s does not disappoint. The prices are great and the food is plentiful. Bring your appetite..if this review helps put a 👍🏼
Been eating here for 39 years, it has been a roller coaster ride, but I'm grateful they're still open (throughout the pandemic and now the light rail construction). The food was always amazing years ago, then for unknown reasons the food was horrible (a lot of folks stopped eating there), then miraculously they bounced back and food was great again. The server was great, she was just by herself and took too long at times. Food rating is due to the chips being over cooked (kills the great taste). This has been happening for way too long, I've brought it to their attention twice, months apart. The chips and salsa (mild not chunky, although that's good too, they just charge for it) are the main reason I drive all the way from Tempe, so please stop burning the chips. It's not too much to ask when y'all have served the best chips ever for at least 38 out of the 39 years I've eaten there.
I’ve been eating here for over 20 years, and the place is celebrating its 50th anniversary of this year. So cool! Something was off today with the albondigas and the cheese crisp. It wasn’t as good, and the flour tortilla was hard. Also, our waiter didn’t come back to see if we wanted our drinks topped off. Drinking water the rest of the meal wasn’t the end of the world, but it would’ve been nice to have more Coke. With the new decor and paint job, some of the spirit and tradition of the place was lost. It is still nice, but it feels much more sterile and mechanical.
Top notch Mexican food. Their salsa is the best I've had. Drinks are right on time. We got a tour of the room that Bill Clinton ate in and people request to sit at the same table. Highly recommended.
If you love beef green chili, this is your place! I highly recommend the Borracho Burro. The burro is served enchilada style with green sauce and cheese. It is filled with their delicious beef green chili with a side of sour cream and guacamole. My wife loves their enchiladas with their red sauce. The rice and beans taste homemade. The salsa is delicious too! We love to order a cheese crisp pizza style and dip it in their salsa. Just something about the combination of the two. For those complaining about the wait time, it's because the food is good...duhhh! Of course there's going to be a line. But well worth the wait!
The service was unbelievably phenomenal! I ordered food to-go as it was my first time there, so I didn't know there was a pickup window in the front. I went inside to get my food.
The hostess was super friendly, giving me a tour of the restaurant, and engaging with the other customers (on my behalf) to assure me that the food was delicious. She gave me some history of their establishment, showed some pictures on the walls, and really made me want to come back.
A few other employees joined in the history lesson, which only added to the high level of hospitality I felt.
I will return, next time to dine in.
Oh heaven's, this place. Since 1972. That should say enough, a small family business that has been around 51 years has got to be good. And it is great!
Have not had a chimichanga since.... Chi-chis? Had green sauce, It was loaded with beef, fried just right and came out piping hot and was more than a meal.
Try everything once.
There will be a short wait. Period.
The Food is Delicious, Full of Flavor and the Right Spiciness. The interior of the restaurant is decorated with Beautiful Mexican Artifacts and extremely clean. There is a separate or designated bar area as well. The service is extraordinary, as the waitresses are very attentive to the customers needs. Highly recommend this Great Restaurant. Many Blessings To You All and Enjoy!!!!
There's a reason that this restaurant has been successful for decades, still in the same location while assuring that same quality in its great-tasting food. We were seated at the famous table where the Former President of the United States, Bill Clinton, once sat during his visit to Arizona.
