Great atmosphere out on the patio with wonderful music and terrific food . Had the salmon and it was perfection ...not a scrap left on my plate when dinner was over 🍽
This place is like being in New Orleans, the inside the Real old songs playing. The service is out of this world. They have real Chicory Coffee which is good for your liver & lowers your cholesterol.
The Bienets are homemade, The grits are real, bacon is amazing, had the egg ham monsieur out of this world. Will go back.
Visited this spot for the first time for a friend’s birthday and enjoyed the service and most of the menu items we received. They have a great spot for a private party and drinks had a nice pour! Of the appetizers we tried I most enjoyed the pimento cheese—super creamy and lots of bread to spread it on! For our side I had the gumbo, which from my perspective could have been spicier and had more sausage. It seemed like mostly shredded chicken and the soup. The salad was beautiful with delicious colored carrots and radishes too. Our entrees were steak and the shrimp and grits—both cooked well although the shrimp could have been larger in size. All the food was hot and fresh when served to our large party. The three desserts were all delicious with my favorite being the little tart—which may only be available for larger parties. The beignets were also delicious, even the next morning with coffee!
My mom and I went here for dinner while she visited and we found it to be good. The service was great and the atmosphere was on the more fancy end of southern. The food was good, but a bit pricey. I know southern is supposed to be more comfort food, but felt the oil and butter was a bit much for my liking.
Went on a Sunday around 3pm and it was empty. I would normally be worried by that, but boy was I glad to have eaten here. Started with the deviled eggs and fried green tomatoes. Both were incredibly delicious, fresh, and full of flavors. Followed up with the creamiest and most flavor packed shrimp and grits I've ever had. It was so good, I forgot to take a picture of it. Do not forget to get the beignets which are straight from New Orleans. Definitely coming back for more, soon.
Excellent food and atmosphere! Staff was very friendly and attentive despite the restaurant being almost completely full. Shrimp and grits were very tasty, and although the portion size could probably be a bit bigger for this particular dish, I would still highly recommend it, because the grits were seasoned just right, and the shrimp was cooked to tender perfection. Fried chicken was top notch: perfectly breaded and extremely juicy, definitely a crowd pleaser. The gumbo was good but a bit one-dimensional (would be nice to see a bit more variety in ingredients for this dish). Overall, discovering this restaurant was a great experience and I will definitely come back to try their other dishes. (Side note: it also seems like a classy place for celebrations and other special occasions. The ambiance, decor, and drink selection are awesome, and several tables nearby were there for birthdays. Everyone seemed to be having a great time!)
I may be biased as I'm from the South, but this place is outstanding! First and foremost the people are super friendly and accommodating! We came for our Anniversary and treated like royalty!
Food is cooked perfect and portions are large. Collared Greens are amazing! Fried Chicken is delicious and you get half the chicken pretty much! I'm very picky with my shrimp and grits (remember I'm from the South)... these were great, not the best I've had, but really enjoyed it... they don't skimp on the shrimp, they don't under serve... great taste and they add a bit of spice, which I like.
Highly recommend this place for the food and outstanding people working!
The atmosphere in this restaurant is quite something to experience. I loved the decor, and even the lighting was great for picture taking. The outdoor seating was also spacious, and they have patio heaters. They have tables and booths both are quite comfortable. They recommend having a reservation but I got seated right away without one so just depends on when you go. The only thing I would’ve changed was having a bigger menu selection but, I like to have lots of options ,that’s just me. Get the fried chicken it’s there signature dish!
This restaurant checks all the boxes. Dining in elegance. The only downside is that it can get quite loud especially when there is a live band playing. It is a more upscale restaurant so you are going to pay a bit more, but it was worth it. The food was excellent. I had the Gumbo YaYa. The flavors were smoky and wonderful. My wife had the Southern Fried Chicken. It was the best fried chicken we had tasted in a long time. The mashed potatoes and the collard greens were very tasty as well. This is significant because we took a trip to the South and while we were there we thought we'd find the best fried chicken ever but we fell short. Who knew we'd find it in Phoenix Arizona? The atmosphere was very pleasant, minus the noise. Our servers were very attentive, not very personable but did a great job nonetheless. We enjoyed our time here and would recommend you give it a try for a nice evening out.
UPDATE:
This is a regular place for me now
I won't eat fried chicken unless it's here... our waiter( it seems an insult to call him that. He was more like a cool dude, hosting you in his home)
I've eaten here once before , and returned to introduce this wonderful food to another person. The service was slow, but efficient. The patio was actually full where the inside was sparsely populated, which added to the service time. The waiter was knowledgeable and patient, and kept the flow of things, easy. I had the fried chicken, which is their sig.ature dish, and it didn't disappoint! The chicken has that "crunch" while remaining juicy. The sides were perfect (mashed potatoes and "broccolini" - don't know what that is, but it tasted good lol), and the ambience was chill
Very good food. I love fried chicken and have tried ones that are supposed to be the best. I thought theirs was DELICIOUS 😋. My husband had the gumbo ya ya, my sister had the shrimp and grits and my brother in law had a green chili enchilada. Every dish was amazing.
They also had live music which was fun. Our server was amazing and did a great job. She was very attentive.
Southern Rail was an amazing restaurant experience. Our server Shanon was great and helped us choose some menu items. Their iced tea was refreshing and I particularly loved the meatloaf, dirty rice balls and bread pudding. I will definitely be coming back to try new things.
