Goat meat balls were amazing. They ahve a good selection of Wine and Cocktails. Service could have been better. But the awesome food makes up for it.
From the moment I got to the restaurant, the staff not only was friendly and accommodating (we had added an extra person to our reservation), but they were hilarious! We had a short wait until our table was ready and the staff was just the best. They told us to grab a drink at the bar and they would find us when the table was ready. Maybe 10 minutes later our table was ready. The tapas are all amazing and my favorite is the grilled shrimp and scallops, but you can't go wrong with any of the dishes. Our waitress was a sweetheart and recommended us the fried goat balls and they were out of this world! This is a great place was large groups and has a very friendly and romantic atmosphere. You can bring a date here or celebrate a birthday. This place has been opened for awhile and the food only has gotten better.
As tourists from Melbourne Australia we really enjoyed our evening at Alta. Excellent variety of very tasty food. Great cocktails. Impressive wine list and amazing staff. Will be back next time we are in New York. Bit embarrassing at the end when we found out that the only credit card accepted was AmEx (Zomato listing says Cash and Cards accepted). We left with empty wallets and very satisfied stomachs which seemed like a very fair swap.
A tapas menu that absorbs influences from various parts of the Mediterranean, the atmosphere transports you far from Greenwich village, the service is flawless, and the dishes are done with flair and flavour!
Alta is my favorite restaurant in NYC. This place is just amazing. As soon as you walk in you're in Spain! The candle lights, the setting and the whole decor put you in the right mood.
Certainly a place for a romantic date night but also ideal for a group since the whole concept is Tapas which means sharing.
A wide selection of wine is available and food is just mouthwatering. They have a long list of tapas so its ok to get lost on your first time but the waiter is extremely helpful and will guide you through it.
We ordered as many tapas as we can and as we are eating one tapas after the other, taste was just getting better and better.
I recommend the fried goat cheese, bacon wrapped dates, fois gras, roasted mushroom flatbread, the shrimp and chorizo skewer, grilled octopus and the pulled pork for your taste buds to explode. As for dessert, the baklava sundae and mascarpone panna cotta!
Prices are fair and most importantly you definitly won't leave this place disappointed
Great date place and lovely ambience. Good food notwithstanding small portions. Tried the Fried Goat Cheese with Lavender Honey, Salmon Tartare and Burrata for starters. The Burrata was presented in a melted creamy state and was delicious. The other two starters were delectable as well. The Chicken Cigars and Lamb Tagine was good as well. With a multicultural fusion menu and a hidden yet inviting feel to the restaurant, its a comforting place for some excellent dining. For sure will head back on my next trip to the Big Apple!!
The food was good. Maybe it's because I'm from Oklahoma or maybe it was that the portions were literally the size of my pinky, but I wasn't super impressed with the quantity. And yes, I do realize Alta serves tapas, so it wouldn't be the size of a meal, but I definitely left still wanting dinner. The fried goat cheese with lavender infused honey was very good and so is the sangria. It's a good place to stop in BEFORE dinner somewhere. Also, great for a date. Atmosphere is spot on.

A Diamond in the Rough. With the overwhelming number of restaurants in New York City, this find was truly the luck of the draw. My boyfriend and I easily ordered half the menu and the verdict was hands down, some of the best tapas we've ever had! There wasn't a single item we were disappointed with. Will definitely go back on our next trip to the Big Apple!
Back in Alta after 2 years and a pandemic. It was still outstanding in every way. The place hides a gallery of seating in a big space through a bar and behind an almost hidden entrance. It’s tapas – don’t expect huge portions. You are in the wrong place if that is what you want. But it nicely avoids the tapas clichés of potatas bravas and tortilla. Every dish we had was outstanding. It is hard to pick out the best, but the smoked trout and black cod fritters, gnocchi, and sprouts were completely lovely. The wine by the glass choices were excellent. Service was attentive but not fussy. We particularly like the pacing of the dishes – there was an appropriate time between each so as not to feel rushed or neglected. We will go back before 2 more years have elapsed!

The atmosphere is warm, welcoming and authentic. The wine selection is comprehensive with excellent recommendations on what to order according to our budget.
The highlight is the food - small sharing portions that were nothing less than marvelous. Including the desserts.

Food was great, wine list was great, service was great, everybody was extremely pleasant. And, if the place were any nicer they would'a had to carry me out to get me to leave! Just a gorgeous, reasonable priced, little restaurant.

The food is creative and tasty, what could you want more? So we pretty much ordered the entire menu and it showed the depth of the food. However, the chef that was there who prepared the menu we had is no longer there, so there might be a variance in what's offered now compared to what's pictured. The service is pretty good, but the food is definitely something you want to repeat.
Although it's tapas style, you'll feel full by the end. The atmosphere is also boisterous so you can come here with a large group, but make a reservation or you might not get seated in reasonable time.
We had a group of 12 and ate everything on the menu. Many of the dishes are done very well. I really enjoyed Fried Hen of the woods, arugula, Brussel sprouts. The server was very kind. We came pretty late in the night and he was very accommodating and did not make us feel rushed at all.
This tapas place is hidden in the residential blocks and no visible signage out there. When we walked in, there a long walkway with the bar on the right hand side. A decent size of dining room and also a mezzanine for a few more tables. Two of us arrived early and ordered two cocktails while waiting for the group. We ordered 6 appetizers to share to begin with, fair portion size but food are delicious. We also ordered 3 entrees to share plus desserts. Decent prices and average $55 per person not including cocktails. Great place to date!
Absolutely stunned with this spot. The entrance is very unassuming but once inside, the courtyard style dining room is incredible. Very well designed and perfect for a date on the balcony or for groups on the lower level. The bar is also a good alternative.
We went with a few dishes just but kept getting more just because it was so good. Highlights on the menu were the goat meatballs, octopus, and the hen. The hen was absolutely deep fried perfection. There really wasn't a bad dish there and I would recommend almost everything we ordered. The only dish I wouldn't recommend were the goat cheese ball. Pretty basic without much complexity but its still worth it if you are a fan of goat cheese.
Just go but do plan to get close to 4-6 dishes for 2 people. I can see if you were to go with a group you can probably get a taste of the whole menu.
Cute place with inviting atmosphere and great food. Certain dishes were a bit on the salty side at times but was still delicious. The menu was even customized for my wife's birthday!
my fiancè made a res here for my birthday. not only was the food incredible, but the service was 10/10 , they made me feel so special on my birthday and made the entire evening spectacular. i feel like this is a hidden gem in NYC. you need to make a res asap!
