Went here last night for my girlfriends 30th Birthday, a party of six. The staff were some of the friendliest and welcoming I have ever had. Extremely attentive during the course of the meal (my glass was never empty). The food was amazing and so delicious, the entire party were stunned at each and everyone of our dishes. Also the extra attention and kindness given to my girlfriend on her birthday was appreciated so much, can not thank the staff enough. If I could rate this restaurant higher I would. Simply the finest dining experience I have ever had. Hope to be back sooner rather than later. Wish all the luck and success to this amazing place and amazing people.
A small venue, cozy, intimate and light-filled. The staff are discreetly helpful, maneuvering deftly through the small space. The maitre' d found me a table for one, the waitress encouraged me to venture beyond my wine comfort zone, and was very attentive and thoughtful. I sampled a dry, fruity Verdejo, which I planned to pair with my entree, and started with a bubbly cava rose, name forgotten, but memories of its bouquet and taste still bringing smiles to the face. My appetizer was a tasty heirloom tomato salad with a slab of burrata on a thick slice of toasted rustic bread, drizzled in golden olive oil. Scrumptuous. Next I sampled the asparagus and mushroom medley in its own jus, infused with truffle oil. The meal was tasty and filling, so I never made it to an entree, nor to the glass of Verdejo. A cherry bread pudding dessert and espresso were the final touches to a splendid afternoon lunch in the Village.
LOOOOVE The Little Owl. I've been to BOTH locations and had a great experience at both. The food is delicious and well prepared. Their menu is just a joy and when I go, I want EVERYTHING! The service is spot on and always friendly. Recommended recommended!!
Had a lunch meeting at The Little Owl, the place is very small. The seating worked for my party of two specifically because there wasn't anyone sitting to our left or right which helped a lot. I would have felt a little claustrophobic if the place was crowded. The steak tacos were delicious, the other person in my party had the fish tacos which they loved. The kitchen is behind a glass wall, I do like when I can see inside the kitchen of a restaurant. I recommend this place and would definitely try it again.
A Lovely Experience
The Little Owl is a charming restaurant on a quiet street in a lovely part of the city. The inside of the restaurant is warm and welcoming and we were lucky enough to get a window seat. The service is very good as is the food. I had the arctic char and my wife the halibut and for dessert we indulged in the gelato. Our meals were both delicious. I recommend the Little Owl - it will not disappoint.
The quintessential corner restaurant in West Village. Perfect for cozy conversation with a friend or date. The first of ‘that’ week. Fairly limited vegetarian options, but whatever there were, were great on taste. And limited vegetarian options means more desserts 🙂. Starting with the Priora blend and a Barbera d’Asti, we had the pesto cavatelli, eggplant parmesan, broccoli rabe. Desserts were the chocolate souffle cake (which was more like chocolate lava – no complaints) and little beignets. Finished off with Alcyone Tannat dessert wine.
Solid neighbourhood restaurant in the West Village with very good food! You can't go wrong here as the food is cooked perfectly - great flavours with pretty generous portions and a fair price. Only drawback is how tiny the restaurant is - like you literally bump into a server or another diner at least a few times during your meal. I am always amazed at how so many small NYC restaurants pump out so much good food in a tiny space!
The complimentary bread was dry and tough and some items leaned on the more well seasoned side. But that's it for drawbacks.
The crab cake special $18 was all real crab and large enough to share. The crab was so sweet and fresh. I ordered the bell and Evans chicken $26 which is a half chicken deboned and flattened and pan seared till the skin is super crispy and comes with asparagus, potatoes, sherry and Dijon sauce. Omg this is hands down one of he best chicken dishes I've ever had. Chicken is boring unless you can make it crispy outside and super juicy and flavourful inside. They have achieved that. I would order this again!
The honey BBQ lamb chops $36 with spinach and fingerling potato salad was another hit. Thought this would be a more traditional BBQ dish but it wasn't. Not overly saucy but just a twinge of sweetness. 3 large chops that were cooked on the rare to med rare side.
Food service was pretty fast and everyone was warm and friendly. Just make sure you make reservations ahead of time unless you want to wait outside and watch all the passerby take picture of the building, which apparently was used in exterior shots of "Friends."
ADORABLE and DELICIOUS! We went for Christmas breakfast in 2013 on a visit to NYC. I compile a list of NYC restaurants to try and this one made it, and for good reason. SWEET, and TINY, get the beignets! Tight fit, but our baby in her carseat wasn't even a second glance from anyone. Excellent food. We saw a lot of stopper-bys snapping pics outside and we asked the host why and he mentioned the building that the restaurant is in is the iconic building in the opening scened of Friends. Great little walk around this neighborhood too... ahhh... take me back!
Little Owl is a Big Gem. We walk out of the door from the Little Owl always saying "Wow,how could that have been any better?" We love the small intimate atmosphere not to mention their amazing interpretation brunch. We have never had even a mediocre meal. Everything is superb.
Love the Little Owl......
Superb!. One of the best dining experience I've had! We had a reservation at 9:15 and were late due to pouring rain! When got there, the waitress was very gracious in explaining that she had to reconfigure (max 15 tables in the restaurant)...all to say that we would have to wait a bit. We were fine with that! She then went over and above to make us feel welcome and make our wait time agreeable. She served us Prosecco and a little something to make our stomach happy! This place issooo hommy! We got our table a little while later and the service was great and the food....OMG...perfect! You feel that every single plate is well thought to make sure that flavors are well developed but not over the top! Again, very hommy feeling with a little modern twist!
I will definitely be back for sure!!!
Best Lunch. Made reservations a month in advance for lunch. Arrived to a table in the back corner, service was excellent and staff was friendly. Started with the onion soup & lobster bisque. Highly recommend both. We ordered the meatball sliders, fries (big enough to split), and the bacon cheeseburger. Everything was so tasty! The place was empty when we arrived then quickly filled up! Definitely will go back on our next NYC trip!
Review in Haiku. Tiny little space
but kitchen makes awesome food
Heavenly pork chop.
Loved dining here! The food was amazing and our servers were excellent. We dined in the outdoor area, but there are warm heaters and it was very cozy. I recommend making reservations, as they stay very busy. If you’re a Friends fan, the restaurant is at the bottom of the Friends apartment building and was also used for the outside shots of Central Perk.
This was really a sweet spot. Sat outside, they turned the heat lamp on for us. The staff was all very friendly. The drinks were decent and the food was good. My only complaint would be that the chicken entree came with potatoes and no vegetables. It was literally just chicken and mashed potatoes. It was delicious, especially the sauce on it, but just would have rather had one less piece of chicken in order to have some veggies like asparagus perhaps. Other than that lovely spot. Was always a crowd of people standing by and taking photos since the "Friends" apartment building is above it. Would recommend and come again. The staff gave out flowers for the women eating because of an event someone had. Wouldn't expect that to be a regular thing but was still sweet!
Came here for dinner on a Friday night. We had a reservation, but it it looked like there were one or two empty tables outside, so walking in might be an option here. The place was so cute and there were a couple of groups of girls starting their night there as well as a few couples who were on a date. Overall I really liked the vibe and the food and service were great too. We had the Mexican corn and the salmon and their Black Sea bass special and all were great!
Came here for the meatball sliders but appreciated the menu of simple but delicious dishes including their fries, Caesar salad and beignets. Yes it’s in the “Friends” building so there’ll be folks in the adjacent streets snapping pictures but they don’t bother you. Service was friendly and helpful.
So cute! In the "friends" building so you get a lot of looky loos. Had lunch here before theatre and was phenomenal. Duck breast and Italian soup followed by a hake sandwich. Heavy but delicious. Cozy vibe and may be a little smokey from the kitchen but well worth it.
"The Little Owl". The food was delicious especially the Corn & Lobster Chowder. The service was a little bit slow, but I didn't mind. The stream of people taking photos, videos and selfies outside was continuous, and I wasn't sure why. Weeks later, I learned that this Greenwich Village building was used to film the outside of the apartment building on the opening of "FRIENDS". About 6 weeks after my visit, Matthew Perry ("Chandler" from FRIENDS) passed away. I heard that a massive memorial of flowers happened here outside the building. 💔
Lovely brunch, friendly and attentive service with great food. We’ve been several times and always informal and impeccable. The sliders are essential as are the beignets. This visit we opted for the omelette and French toast which did not disappoint either. Highly recommended.
Can't believe we got to stop by the good ol "FRIENDS" house! I'm not a big TV or movie watcher because I'm always so busy but if you have never seen or heard of FRIENDS, you for sure are living under a rock! It was one of the biggest shows of its time and beyond. We just did a quick walk by, but was still pretty cool. CRAZY, I'm writing this review just as my cousin told me Chandler passed. I was literally already leaving the review, and she mentioned it while on the phone with her husband. RIP and thank you for being a big part of such a great show! For sure check it out in the area!
Iconic restaurant beneath the “Friends” apartment that lived up to the hype!
Went for brunch and will return for dinner.
Chilaquiles hit the spot with a good spicy flair. Also had the side sausage patties, which were tasty.
Mimosa was delicious and service was attentive.
Neighborhood gem with good reason!
Love it! Is a cute little place with veggie options and good service.
Be a aware can get busy because is the place where the series Friends got inspired. And where the apartment is located
