This place is amazing! Get a crawfish pie, they are cheap and worth the price. You can't go wrong with fresh.
Smells wonderful in there but............ I could never see myself buying "fresh" seafood from this place. They are way, way, way too overpriced for the quality of seafood you would get. I came here for the crawfish pies I had been hearing about. Apparently they place and order with the lady that makes them and they sell them in their store which explains why the last two times I went they were sold out. The crawfish pies were pretty good, not the best but not bad. Small though, about 2 or 3 inches round at about $3 each. I am giving them a "like it" solely for the crawfish pies.
Pros: Nice Magazine area, crawfish pies good (when you can get them)
Cons: Seafood too expensive (probably too be expected given the part of town)
Excellent seafood selection.. I normally boil my own crawfish, but if you can't, try em here. probably the best i've ever had. excluding nowhere.
The Big Fishermen isn't a restaurant, but plenty of hungry people visit for their take-out area. Here, they offer a variety of hot boiled seafood at affordable prices. We swung by to pick up a pound of large sized crawfish (approximately a dozen) and four pieces of corn all for only $8!
The crawfish were fresh and succulent. Following recommendations from New Orlean natives, I made sure to suck out all the "juices" in the head – a broth of wonderful umami filled essence. You may be squeamish at first but the taste of the salty seafood concentrated juices is well worth taking the plunge.
Even the corn was well seasoned from being boiled with seafood and seasonings with a real spicy kick to it. Of course, the only drawback was that the Big Fishermen had no dining area. Some people travel by bike to nearby parks. We walked about a block and found a grassy area with some rocks that wou
I spent three years living in Louisiana smelling the ever alluring scent of spicy crawfish boils and not being able to try these tiny little "mud bugs."
I came here because word of mouth said that this is the best place for boiled seafood. The selection is quite sparse. and even tho they had been open for an hour before I got there, they only had a few things out and a lot of things not ready to be sold. a little disappointing. although the service was very pleasant and explained to me that everything was cooked fresh every morning and so that was why the majority of their selection was not ready to be sold when we had walked in. crawfish but the price is affordable. the crawfish was quite good actually. we got about 2 lbs and it was plenty. we also got a side of corn and sausage which were pretty good too. all in all, i would say this is a very convenient establishment for when you have guests in town or just throwing a party in general and want to bring some food to eat outdoors (emphasis on OUDOORS). Great place for fresh and super tasty seafood, especially crawfish! We had boiled crawfish and crabs, the flavor is so balanced yet spicy, goes perfectly with local beer Abita, the owner is so nice he tought us how to eat crawfish profesionnaly. The most important part, everything is so fresh , and the price is very reasonable. We miss this place so much! For two of us we had 4 lbs crawfish, next time would really consider 10lbs... Just cannot have enough!
The only thing that matters here is the crawfish... and for that, you can't get better. The best boil, they do it right. Hard to not eat 7 pounds in a sitting.
I took my son to New Orleans for his 12th birthday. This was one of our first stops. The crawfish were super fresh and the boil was amazing. When they rang up our order I had to ask if they made mistake because the price was extremely affordable. We'll never forget those crawdads
I tried this place based off the reviews. Came in town, and made it appoint to eat here. SO glad i ventured to the garden district for this place!
Big Fisherman is the ONLY place I’d consider buying crawfish. The seasoning is just right - flavor, flavor, FLAVOR! I live in Houston now, and I’ve yet to find anything that comes close to the perfection of their boil. I surely do miss it.
Love this place for fresh and boiled seafood. Tons of frozen options too for take home. Reasonable prices. Definitely give them a call ahead to check that they have some of what you want cause they do run out. Parking can be tough some days, don’t part in the grocery store lot.
Was brought here by my fiance as a surprise for my birthday. He knows how much I like seafood apparently he had called around to several places to see who had the best crabs at the best price and this is where we wound up. I am one of those really picky people I only wanted female crabs I got a dozen of the largest size and a dozen female of the next size down and oh my goodness these crabs were fresh and very well seasoned and when I say well-seasoned I don't mean to where it's got too much spice that you need a gallon of milk just to stop your mouth from burning I mean to wear it's really flavorful without all that gosh darn spice that every other seafood place uses way too much of so if you're like me and you want Seafood that you can actually eat without killing yourself what would ever kind of pepper they put in that stuff this is your place it has pepper don't get me wrong but not too it's going to burn your mouth off and you can even let your kids eat your Seafood from here I have a 5 year old daughter who loves crabs and crawfish and usually I have to boil them myself for her to be able to eat it but here the spice was perfect do what you can she can eat it
Crawfish was A+
Also love getting a clove of garlic 🤟
Several of my friends in New Orleans say that this is the best place to get your Seafood To Go in the whole town. I can't agree with them more. A little bit spendy, but you get Quality Seafood and yes you do pay for what you get in this life.
Fabulous place for big, meaty crawdads! Great prices too
