Craving my once a month natural protein fix, I chose to visit St. Charles Tavern's $11.99 Thursday Steak W/Loaded Baked Potatoes Night. A friend and I went early because there Special is all day and we wanted to catch Happy Hour 2 for 1 wells. We were greeted by the Bartender/Server. immediately upon entering the Tavern. Yeah the place was practically empty. I started with A delish well margarita and my friend had a domestic beer and Boudin Balls, Which were delish. Next we had the Steak Special, The Ribeye was a total surprise for me because the "Port of Call" lack luster $35 steak doesn't even measure to this Steak by far. The Ribeye was tender , moist, & Grilled to perfection. Overall Great Experience, I will be back for sure
Loved the sass of our waitress. The $11.95 Ribeye Special on Wednesday/Thursday is so totally worth it! Can’t wait to try the Chicken Fried Steak!
great food for a great price. friendly service. treated my taste buds to their seafood platter one night w/ their speacialty drink "street car" one night; and the soft shell crab po boy w/ a bloody mary the next. yumm-O!
Open all the time makes the Tavern a welcome beacon late night. The food is a fairly straightforward diner selection, with strong coffee and a full bar rounding out the spot. The food won't win any awards, but will fill you up for a fair price. Love the vintage toy crane in the corner!
I got a recommendation to try the St. Charles Tavern in New Orleans from someone who was staying in my hotel. Not having any dinner plans, I walked a couple blocks down the street and gave them a try. I had the Boudin Ball Po'boy. I tried boudin balls for the first time at Jacques-Imos Cafe a couple nights earlier... These boudin balls were different from the ones I had a Jacques-Imos Cafe. These had less of a batter around the meat inside and were a bit more uniform in their consistency. Different, but also good.
Yum!!!!. Hearty breakfast w/ prompt, great service!!! Wish Id had time for lunch as it looked amazing!
Nice price. Good blackened catfish and red beans. Rib Eye was OK, but not great.
We come here every time we come into town. We love it! Great cocktails, great food, comfortable servers...it's like hanging out with friends.
Breakfast was amazing! Not expecting the quality of food we got, very nice presentation too. I can imagine if they're busy it might not be the best service, but at 9 am it was great.
The food is overpriced but it is located on st Charles so I can understand why. Food is very fresh and always great. Friendly service.
For what it is, it's good. The 24/7 breakfast was nice and in decent portions - better than your chain Waffle House/Denny's alternative.

An update: still as good as before. Last night's dinner was an overstuffed shrimp po-boy, lightly dressed and served with well-prepared fries. I would have liked the baguette to be just a little crustier, but it was certainly good enough to pass. Even tried a piece of cheesecake on a whim (a constant whim, I admit, but a whim nonetheless) and it was as authentically New York as the sandwich (and the ambience) was New Orleans. Excellent service once again.
THE CURMUDGEON’S RATINGS (explained, sort of, on the Curmudgeon-About-Town blog):
FOOD: 4 chili peppers (out of 5)
SERVICE: 4 chili peppers
AMBIENCE: 3 1/2 chili peppers
VALUE: 3 chili peppers

Surprise!. We picked this place just because it was close; we had very low expectations of it. But first we were surprised by the interesting menu, with lots of traditional New Orleans dishes and several we wouldn't have expected to find in a borderline-sleazy tavern like this. At our table we had a Cobb salad, made large with fresh ingredients, though the bleu cheese dressing disappointed; a boudin po-boy, also large, with four big balls of deep-fried something that was vaguely like boudin (and was really tasty, whatever it was); a good meatball po-boy (again, four large meatballs & a good helping of mozzarella cheese); and a soft-shell crab po-boy that pleased the guy who ordered it. The drinks were well made -- that's what we really came for in the first place -- and the service was excellent. The prices were a little on the high side, but most surprising of all was the warmth of the ambience. We expected, as I said, borderline-sleazy, and found instead a long-standing neighbourhood tavern. I'm sorry now that I avoided this place when I lived Uptown. I'd recommend it to people who don't require a pretentious restaurant.
I really like the place. Brought to kid in with me for a quick bite to eat and we weren't disappointed. I ordered the shrimp po boy, and my kid had the bacon cheese burger (which was bigger than her face!). The shrimp was seasoned just right, and my kid loved her burger. The lady that served was nice and personable, and so was the cook. It's a bar/ tavern, so I don't think I'd recommend bringing the family in after a certain time, but any time before 6 should be fine. We were in around 5 in a Saturday with no issues. It was surprisingly slow and quiet, but I was ok with that.
We just recently ran across the awesome restaurant .
The staff was very very nice. The food is awesome . They have a steak night special that can't be beat. Wed and Thur night 14 oz ribeye with bake potato for 11.95 I ordered two of them.
The shrimp poboys are awesome. You get great food at a great price. The crawfish pies are the bomb. I highly reccomend this establishment.
This place is a diamond in the rough. The food was AMAZING even at 1am. My husband got a breakfast plate with chicken and andoullie hash with eggs. We both had their DELICIOUS Gumbo and I had a Muffaletta sandwich which was uniquely different than most but in a Very good way.. My old fashioned was just how I like it as well. You will not regret eating and having a good drink there.
The gumbo was delish! The platter I had was also tasty! I was visiting from Virginia and this was my first time having gumbo! The bread was also nice, buttery, and crispy! My only pet peeve was the waiter, which I felt was condescending and a bit rude. Other than that, the food is yummy😋😋
Great Little spot for a home style meal.
Soft shell crab po-boy, roast beef w/fries, crawfish patties, seafood gumbo.
Awesome food for a late night bar. Don't miss the crab cakes, all crab, nothing else!!! The fried catfish is yum as well
Great food, especially for a dive! They're a bit understaffed, but the service is still good and being open every hour of the day certainly doesn't hurt.
Great bar for food and drink especially on a steak night which is Thursday, when you can get a $10 steak instead of $17. It was very tasty. Staff are friendly and it has a lively vibe and screens for those who need it!
First meal in Nawlins and didn't disappoint! Those deep fried bits and hot sauce had me
Ok ok ! The food was good ! Very Tavern feels!
My only complaint is how loud it was and the a/c obviously was not working great . It’s a bar atmosphere so that explains it all . Lots of locals!
