I can't wait to come back here. Everything was as amazing as I hoped it would be. The food was epic. I can't pic a favorite - literally everything we tried was incredible. The bruschettas were a great way to start but the pastas stole the show. It was busy, loud but not overwhelming. Overall a fantastic experience and will return.
Wow! The food is absolutely delicious!! My new favorite restaurant by far in Mpls. The Ragu and Gnocchi might be best the I’ve ever had. The desserts were chef’s kiss. I can’t wait to return!
reservations recommended. the food was delightfully tasty, portioned well, and easily shareable.
day at the bar, and the bartender had lots of great recommendations.
the eggs and lobster appetizer was a great start to Minnesota Italian dinner.
We went to BLG for a birthday dinner and absolutely loved it! The ambiance was more causal than we thought (which we didn’t mind!). We had a 6:30 reservation and were seated promptly. We ordered the following:
-Caesar salad—lemony Caesar dressing, very tasty
-Charred onion and goat cheese bruschetta—amazing, so much depth of flavor in the onions.
-Lobster and Soft egg toast—extremely rich and tasty. My wife doesn’t like eggs or lobster and this was way too much for one person, but made for a good breakfast the next day!
-Focaccia—tasty, nice accompaniment to the pastas
-Bolognese—best I’ve ever had, I’ve been craving it since we left
-Orange gnocchi and cauliflower—crispy gnocchi and cauliflower in a creamy white sauce with an orange flavor that complimented everything perfect, 10/10. My wife said best gnocchi ever!
-Red wine pasta—this was not our favorite, heavy red wine and salty flavor. The server comped this for us
-Finished with tiramisu—multiple decadent layers of goodness, amazing! They brought candles on top for our birthday’s, was nice gesture!
Delicious. Got a reservation on Sunday for Monday with friends. There’s street parking out front and the host actually noted that I asked for a vegetarian menu in my reservation. The vegetarian menu outlined which options were available as vegan or vegetarian which is super helpful. The papperdelle was delicious- super wide noodles and thin. The peach non alcoholic drink was nice too - balance of sweet and the tart of the ginger beer. My friend got the red wine spaghetti which was a TON of pasta lol but she liked how light and flavorful it was. The caramel crepe was my favorite part - two crepes with hot caramel sauce with a scoop of ice cream on top. It was about $100 for me and my boyfriend.
I can’t think of another restaurant in the Twin Cities that is consistently outstanding in terms of food, service and experience. Year after year, no matter how many different times we visit, and whatever we order from the menu, Bar La Grassa exceeds our expectations time and time again. And apparently, I’m not the only one who feels this way. Bar La Grassa has been open since 2009 and reservations are still booked at least a week or two in advance. Also, parking is inherently challenging in the North Loop, so be sure to arrive early to find a meter or plan to valet.
As for the food, we’ve never ordered a secondi, only appetizers and pasta. The pasta is simply that good! We never make it further into the menu. We always start with the gigante beans and a beet salad (which comes and goes from the menu with different preparations). We’ve had the soft eggs and lobster bruschetta, and it’s delectable, but very rich. In fact, the vast majority of the menu is rich, with lots of cheese, butter and cream throughout. For those of you with sensitive stomachs, like myself, I’ve found the servers to be extremely knowledgeable about the ingredients in each pasta.
During our last visit, we ordered the mafalda bolognese and the pappardelle w/veal ragu. Both highly recommended. I’ve also had the cavatelli with rabbit sugo and thought it was excellent.
As for the interior aesthetic, Bar La Grassa is dark, moody, romantic and buzzing with energy. If you haven’t been, be sure to make a reservation soon. Enjoy!
The Gnocchi is the best. Most of the menu is great, but there are a couple of things we didn't love. The service is great and the food is really good. Just be aware some of the more interesting menu items might not do it for you if you don't happen to have the most refined of palates (like me). Highly recommend it for a little fancier meal.
This might be one of the best Italian restaurants I’ve been to in the US. The food and the drinks were absolutely amazing. It’s hard to say which dish was my favorite because everything was so good!
Two words: the GNOCCHI. It’s truly all I have to say. I think about BLG’s Gnocchi too often. It has an orange zest in it which you wouldn’t think would pair well with such a classic but it’s something out of this world. If BLG ever takes the Gnocchi off their menu, I’m not sure what I’d do with my life. I’d get the gnocchi every night for dinner if I could. Everything on their menu is great: any of the bruschettas, Caesar salad, etc.
This place lives up to the hype, food is absolutely incredible: 10/10!!
Went with a party of 11 so I tried several dishes since we all shared, highly recommend the Crispy Insalata (best salad I’ve ever had), my steak was PERFECTLY cooked - crispy outside and tender inside, the tiramisu and the chocolate bundino were decadent.
Service was great!
I’m not from here but will definitely return when back in town.
