Excellent coffee and the breakfast is the absolute best. The customer service is professional and friendly. A family feel to the atmosphere. It doesn't get any better. You must experience this incredible place and enjoy.
I cannot come home without visiting Coffee Makes You Black. I love the atmosphere, and the food is amazing!! It has the best chicken and waffles I've ever had, and I've been to very many soul food places in the US; east, south, and the west!
Fish Fry Fridays. Friday Fish Fry. Every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month is Live jazz featuring AhvantSoul. A variety of herbal teas and chocolate drinks are available also. Nice sized portions on the platters and chowders. Reasonable Prices. Family friendly atmosphere and courteous staff.
Visit "Coffee Makes You Black"!. A coffee shop in a wonderful old bank building on the corner of Teutonia and Hadley in Milwaukee. Jazz on the weekends and a sense of community give this place its flavor. Take advantage of it! Meeting spaces available, office space above it available for lease. This place and its owner are a true asset to the area. Highly recommend stopping in to visit. (And bring a friend!)
Why does this place have only a 4.4 rating? They have the BEST southern breakfast in Midwest! The salmon croquettes comes too close to perfect! Get there! 5.0 rating is deserved!
Overall I think the value that this place deliver is excellent. For a neighborhood restaurant I truly appreciate being able to come here and get a good home cooked meal.
The venue definitely needs a resurface and I believe it definitely throws people off when you walk in.
Food was excellent and at first you may be hesitant but it was great.
Service: just like many other restaurants during this time, they were severely short staffed. They need at least 2-3 more people for their busy Saturday mornings.
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Once you get pass the appearance you will have a surprisingly pleasant experience.

I'm a door dasher went in with no issues and it seem like a nice layer back environment I believe I'll visit there sometime myself to put a order in.
I love supporting black owned businesses. The atmosphere was mellow and welcoming. The service was also great. There was a nice variety of food choices. The family and I enjoyed everything. The fried chicken was succulent and tasty. Fried green tomatoes, chicken and waffles, and the mac & cheese were all delicious. I would definitely visit again.
One of my favorite places. I do take out, lunch, dinner.I especially like the way they fry fish. I feel at home there. The customers are even cordial !!! It is a place you don't mind eating alone in. They also serve chicken and waffles. The mango tea will blow your mind.
Really good food and good prices. Had the chicken and waffles special and the French toast breakfast with coffee. Our server was kind and helpful. All around, would recommend!
Good morning visited the restaurant today and was greeted by a man who asked my name and gave uplifting words forgot to get his name then was seated by a young man by the name of AJ he was young but very professional polite and patient very mannerable he took our order and suggested the peach hot tea let me tell you it was everything thanks AJ the food was good except for the potatoes it wasn’t seasoned but everything else was good I ordered the salmon patties breakfast also the young girl working with AJ was very polite please let them know because of my experience with them today I will be back the next time I’m in town customer service was awesome 👏🏾👏🏾
The best coffee shop I’ve been to in Milwaukee! The food was really delicious Black Owned!! The owner is very nice and held a great conversation with me about the business and future plans. You can’t go wrong stopping here for coffee or food!!
First time here & it was really great. Staff was friendly & our server was amazing; she made sure we were well taken care of. Food was delicious, shrimp & grits for me & the chicken & waffle for my cousin. Would definitely recommend if you've never been here to check 'em out
I've been here a couple times and it's always a good time. The food, particularly the breakfast foods, are absolutely delicious. Overall the place has a good vibe, and I definitely recommend visiting! I know I'll be back asap!
