Consistent. Fresh. Healthy. Bustling good service. Great location. Excellent space. Good value. Fun shopping and a great dining spot mixed together. What's not to like? Go.

Pam is such a lovely person! My wife and I loved having her as our server! The spicy black bean soup is phenomenal and my wife loved her sweet potato burrito with hot salsa! Absolutely delicious. We will be back!!

Fresh, Delicious Eats on the Eastside!. I love B&B. I'd try anything & everything on their menu, hands down. Their sweet potato & bean burrito is to die for-- it's fresh, delicious, and veggie-friendly! In fact, a large portion of their menu is veggie/other dietary restrictions- friendly. Their desserts are equally as wonderful as the normal menu.
B&B is part cafe, part grocery/miscellaneous store, but not in an awkward way; the two are distinctly separated. It's one of my favorite restaurants in Milwaukee, and always a go-to dinner plan. Yum.

The tempeh Reuben was to die for. I ate it hours ago and already wish I had another one. The service was great. I highly recommend.

Solid. Beans and Barley is a great place to take vegetarians, vegans, or people who eat gluten-free. Their menu has options for everyone, with plenty of filling choices. Prices are great too! It's always a good pick for out-of-town guests!

Super Burrito: 7 out of 10. The flavors in this item were nice and fresh. I felt as if I ate something quality and wholesome. The super burrito was just a tad heavy on the beans and light on tomatos for my personal taste. The prices are fairly reasonable when you consider the quality you're really getting. I certainly wouldn't eat here very often, being a college student, but I liked it very much and didn't mind to spend about $7 for my lunch today :)

P.S. I got my meal To Go, so I cannot comment too much on the service, but the two people I did interact with were both very friendly!

Saturday Mornings. One of the best places to go in Milwaukee for a healthy and incredibly fulfilling breakfast. Short and sweet; they don't boast a thousand and one options on their menu, but they do change seasonally. Whether it is quiche, lox and bagels, eggs benedict, or an awesome breakfast burrito, there is something to satisfy everyone. House made strawberry jam served with toast and bagels screams of the freshest most amazing strawberry flavor. Not to mention the entertainment of shopping their grocery store slash pop art gallery after your meal. Definitely a must in Milwaukee.

Love this place!. I had avoided this place for a while after my first experience years and years ago when they seemed to have a more limited and sort of bland menu. I visited this place again a few weeks ago and was impressed by the changes they had made! They have incredibly flavorful food and offer a variety for different dietary restrictions (vegan, etc.) The little shop in there is also fun to look around in!

Great Desserts!. Great desserts, and sweet potato burritos. Staffing has improved much so now I can get my husband to go there. Great choice of drinks and you can bring stuff over from the market too. We love to go there for breakfast!

This restaurant used to be better years ago. I believe the service and food quality have declined over the years, unfortunately. The restaurant holds a lot of nastalgia, as I believe it's one of the first vegan restaurants in the state. The menu offers many organic and vegan options. I did notice some meat selections as well. They offer a dozen unique salad options, and they also have a kids menu. The drinks include fresh juices, smoothies, alcoholic beverages, and coffee options. All dishes are made fresh to order with homemade scratch ingredients. The location is great with ample street parking available. The ambiance is what I like the most. The restaurant is bright 🌞 and welcoming! It it has a vast amount of natural lighting, which comes through from its huge beautiful window pains and skylights. The restaurant has many live plants as decor, which I enjoy as well. Attached to the restaurant seating area, there is a store and deli. Overall, if you're in the area, it's worth the stop.

Easily made online reservations here for Mother's Day breakfast, and was glad I did! This is a great, long-standing spot on North Avenue with on-site parking, restaurant, small market, and deli. Admittedly, though from the area, I forgot how wonderful this place is. The dining area is a nice size, and the food is absolutely amazing. Our server was attentive and quick, and our food came out very timely. We all ordered a Bloody Mary to start, but I asked that mine be made spicy. Usually, when I do this anywhere, I am inevitably disappointed. However, they made it perfectly and not overwhelmingly spicy. We ordered the Mexican quiche, blueberry buttermilk pancakes and the lemon ricotta pancakes. All were delicious! The Mexican quiche was light and airy, the potatoes well seasoned and the side fruit very fresh. The buttermilk pancakes were light and fluffy, made with fresh, nicely sized blueberries. The lemon ricotta pancakes were very tasty, with the ricotta adding a slight sweetness to the pancakes that paired well with the blueberry syrup. Beans and Barley has been a long-time east side staple, and there's no doubt why. Great food, great service, and a great location make this a great gem to try out and revisit.

I highly recommend this lovely restaurant if you are in downtown Milwaukee. There are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. I had white bean coconut soup, the Thai coconut curry stir fry, and a coconut kale smoothie. My husband had the mushroom lasagna, vegetarian chili, and a chocolate banana smoothie. We're gonna top off this deliciousness with a poppy seed torte. It's reasonably priced and there's a parking lot in front of the building. There's also metered parking along the street. It's got a nice shop with lots of gift items and a deli.

Awesome vegetarian selection, super friendly staff, tasty food. Beans has the perfect combo of to-go options, grocery and dine-in. I’ve been coming here for 10 years and it hasn’t changed in quality. It’s an East Side staple!!

I wish I had discovered this little gem of a veggie spot on my first day in Milwaukee. This place has incredible vegetarian options and each meal exceeded my expectations. The staff and service is absolutely on point! The omelet and chili are pictured in this review. Each meal was wonderful! The restaurant has a well-stocked shop attached and I recommend taking the time to tour their selection.

OK, so be fair I didn't realize what kind of restaurant I was at - until now when Google asked me to review. It felt like a bunch of insane hippies that refused to make normal food. Ollie was INCREDIBLY helpful and worked with me to get garlic bread, apple pie and a chocolate milk. Thank you so much Ollie for being honest, and that I probably wasn't in the best restaurant for me. She was right, it's because I didn't know the area and was desperate. Food and service was great. If you're a meat and potato guy, go somewhere else. Also, the atmosphere was nice) decent but the posters on the wall explains it all. Oh and the "large" chocolate milk is a joke. Get two.

I have been coming to the Beans and Barley for the better part of a decade and every meal has been superb. The restaurant has been a staple of Milwaukee culture for decades and their menu has a wide array of diverse food options for people looking for something different. Highly recommend.

Terrific spot with fast friendly service. They have a large menu, with items clearly marked as vegan or vegetarian. They even had some items with meat for the omnivores. I love the tofu sandwich and their vegan chili is amazing!

Their food is delicious! I had dinner with my mom and her friend for the first time not too long ago and I had the chicken sandwich and it was delicious! I also got some groceries and takeout food and it was so good! I was blown away! Will be stopping again :)

1st time here and coming from the Discovery Museum with a nine - and five year old, one adult gluten intolerant and one adult on a salt restrictive diet, this place worked out great. The food was delicious, and our wait person was very patient and kind since this was going to be on separate checks. I personally had the quesadilla stuffed with chicken and grilled vegetables. This was awesome. My wife had a turkey/swiss melt and with a side salad loaded with garlic/parmesan dressing. Absolutely loved it. The rest of our party was happy with their choices. And the Chocolate Cream Pie was rich and dense. Beans & Barely also has a cool little shopping area, plus a very eclectic vibe of customers and employees. Check this place out!
