We decided to go to Las Olas Cafe because it had good reviews online for Cuban breakfast food. We were surprised when we arrived to see that it's really just a hole in the wall, with a walkup window for diners wanting to order breakfast to go. We decided to eat inside, where there is very limited space and seating, and no air conditioning. There is no menu posted, but there were a few physical menus floating around, so we grabbed one. There aren't many options, and it's clear pretty much everyone orders the breakfast combo, which includes toast, home fries, breakfast meat, two eggs, and juice or coffee for something like $6.00. All the food was really delicious, and homemade right in front of us. The atmosphere in the cafe was hectic, with long lines and lots of noise. It was hot and crowded, but it was our choice to stay there. We decided it was worth it for the food, and for feeling like we were eating somewhere that wasn't just a tourist trap, as most breakfast places seem to be in South Beach.
On our recent stay in Miami beach, our condo was right beside Las Olas Cafe. We ate breakfast and dinner there and will go back whenever we are in town. The cafe con leche is great and the breakfast combo is the best deal on the beach! Eggs any way you want them, big sausage links or bacon, home fries or French fries and toast all made hot and quick. We have also had the Cubans and French fries. Traditional and delicious! Highly recommend.
On our recent girls vacation to Miami, we made it a point to find local eateries versus the trendy tourist spots. We found a true gem when we found Las Olas. In fact, we ate there for lunch, dinner and then breakfast the next day! Cortaditos are a MUST if you go.
When you go to Miami Beach, the one type of food you MUST get is Cuban. Why you ask? Because Miami is home to a ginormous Cuban population, duh! If you can’t get good Cuban food here, then you I guess you’ll just have to go to Cuba.
Las Olas Cafe is a great spot to it hit up if you don’t want to leave the South Beach area. It’s even recommended by Anthony Bordain, so of course we had to go! This place is super chill and laid back. No sit down table service – you gotta order at the counter.
We ordered a Cuban Sandwich – roast pork, ham, pickles and mustard. It was very good, but much to my disappointment not my favorite Cuban sandwich… I’ve had better.
To drink, we got a Jugo de Cana. That’s freshly juiced sugar cane. Obviously it was sweet, but it also had a green taste to it as well.
Naturally we had to try a Cuban Coffee. Strong, dark, and sugary.
I highly recommend going to Las Olas. It was a bit of a sketch ball-change walk to get there… What with the homeless man in a doorway jacking off, but seriously, just turn the other way. The Cuban Coffee alone is worth it.
Came here with my girlfriend and my brother for lunch. We originally planned to go to Puerto Sagua only to find it was closed due to fire (or so the sign on the door said). Instead, we came here as Plan B. Don't let the looks fool you. It won't win you over by the look of the place or the fact it may be warm inside. It will win you over when you actually take that first bite. Be warned though, you may not find a seat inside or outside so be prepared for that.
Delicious. Cuban food at Cuban prices with American portions. Learn Spanish before coming here.
This is the place! Off the beaten path, lunch counter feel gives this place an authentic feel: all walks of life are in here-all drawn to good food. Lots of fresh hot food choices and the media noche had the cheese hot and melted and the bread was not greasy: btw if you read my other Cuban food place review: the difference here is the bread and ingredients are not discernible to being from the USA!:-) 4 out of 5 stars Cuban can driver also confirmed the place is legit!
The Perfect Spot. Cuban Coffee - Cafe Con Leche $2
4 different kinds of Empanadas (Spinach and cheese, Ham and cheese, Beef, Spicy Chicken) $2
Croquettas $0.89
I think these are the prices. Not sure as I never asked for a receipt nor did they provide one. I don't care really... I crave their Croquettas, Cuban Coffee and Empanadas whenever I'm in Miami.
***Pretty sure I went there twice today. Its still early... I could go again.
Cash only - very inexpensive and quick. Newcomers just make your way to the glass and point at what you want. The place is busy, but the line goes super quick. Didn't have anything that I didn't like and the Cuban coffee was amazing. Considering the locale, this place is a fantastic value and a great find!
Amazing Cafe con leche! And cheap amazing food. Definitely a must visit. Especially if you want to get away from the tourist traps on Ocean drive.
