Some of the finest Sauerbraten and spatzle and Sauerkraut around. Authentic German food , just like my Grandmothers.
The service was superb. Quiet atmosphere and they even had authentic Accordion music.
Excellent German food. Very authentic! Atmosphere is superb and love the opportunity to sit at the big table with others and break bread. We've been here before and always bring family and friends there to enjoy.
Prima Deutch Essen!. Zur Kate is the real deal. They have half a dozen very distinctive schnitzel varieties, wursts and daily specials. The atmosphere is festive and authentic as is the service. Occasionally there is live accordion music from the Alps. They are nestled in the shadow of the Bavarian Point Restaurant, but Zur Kate gets all of my deutchmarks!
5 dumplings for Zur Kate!
We had a wonderful time at Zur Kate last night. The schnitzel and red cabbage were fantastic! The staff was great too. Horst is the coolest guy ever!
Great dining and entertainment. I went to Zur Kate with a group of 6 people, including myself. Upon entering the restaurant your attention is drawn to the German wall decor which surrounds the restaurant. There was also live German music at the restaurant which made the dining experience very fun. The food was brought out hot and in a timely manner. I had the Schnitzel Holstein which was fantastic. I wished that I offered a preference for how well cooked I wanted the egg (The egg was over-hard and I like over-easy) which topped my pork but I managed. The pork that came with the dish was very tender and not weighed down with grease which indicated it was cooked relatively close to the time the food was brought out. I was very pleased with the experience given the small amount of money I paid for my entree. I will definitely go back to Zur Kate.
This isn't some upscale euro/German place, it's just good plan hausmacher food that you'd find in any little local place in Germany. I do wish that they had Kase speatzle on the menu though.
Spatzle. The spatzle is freshly made . The portions are large on everything you order. Great music on Friday and Saturday night. German owner Horst is friendly. Came to America to be a Cowboy!!
We have been going to Zur Kate for years for the authentic German food, beer, atmosphere, and service.
Recommend the Schnitzel. My favorite is the Ramen but the Weiner is good too.
They also have weekly specials that they only serve on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Prost!!!
We tried this place for dinner with some friends. We ordered the special, which was ham hock. The sides were spatzle and red cabbage. It was very tender and delicious. We ordered apple Strudel, which was amazing. The restaurant was clean, as were the restrooms. You may have to share a table, but it is always great meeting new friends. Cannot wait to return.
Honestly, this is a lovely little gem of the east valley. The food is always good and rhr atmosphere is fantastic and backed up by good service. We split the Cordon Bleu schnitzel. Would recommend and the red cabbage was stellar. Will definitely be coming back again soon
The food was excellent and the service also. Very friendly atmosphere and very clean. Brought back many memories of my Oma's food. Thank you for a wonderful experience! We will definitely be back soon.
Very authentic. German decor and atmosphere with a lovely background of live accordion music. They seemed short-staffed; however, our server was amazing. The food was good as was the beer. Would recommend for pork and beef lovers.
Absolutely delicious! Fast and friendly service. I've been dying to have schnitzel since the first time I tried it years ago, and this really scratched that itch. The live accordion music and rich decor makes eating here a fun experience.
Very worth your time!
I worked briefly in Mesa in 1988 and discovered a wonderful German restaurant, jump forward to 2023, I’m back in Mesa and thought “I wonder if that great German restaurant with the accordion player is still there?” Well it is!! Zur Kate looked just the same, might even be the same accordion player. Very authentic in food and decor, great service, & German beers on tap. We shared the Zweibel schnitzel, two sides and rye bread, with a couple of Warsteiner Dunkels, we were stuffed and happy!
As a German I love this place one of the few authentic German experiences in The Valley at an affordable price point. Horst is an amazing and friendly host/owner will make your experience more authentic, waitresses are dressed in traditional Bavarian style Dirndls also, you know a lot of cleavage:) in a tasteful dress…you will not be disappointed. We had the Schnitzel varieties and Apple strudel for desert plus some good German dark beer. 🍻 Prost! Or as we say at the Octoberfest: Zicke Zacke Zicke Zacke Heu Heu Heu!!!
One of my favorite restaurant in east Mesa. I love their schnitzels, they're well cooked with tasty gravy on top. Their side dishes (potatoes, sauerkraut, etc) are great too. If you come the first weekend every month there's a chance to get a ham hock which tastes amazing. All their food is pretty generous in portions. They also have live accordion performances at times.
What a great restaurant. This had some of the best we have ever had from a restaurant. It is a very quaint place. Service was a little slow, but I think they said they had a new cook trying his best to learn the dishes. Still outstanding tasty dinner. Will for sure go back. I would suggest that on Friday get there as soon as they open, because they had a wait an hour after they had opened. Also very reasonable prices too.
