Max's formerly known as Calhoun's. It's a bar, plain and simple. Got the best bartender, always super nice people there, and cheap beer! TV's everywhere, great back patio - even when it's 2,000 degrees in Memphis. You can always get a good game of cornhole in during the warmer months. Love the old school square pizza and the cheese covered hashbrowns!
The Perfect Sports Bar. Your perfect neighborhood sports bar. Ample big screens, cheap beer, and friendly staff. Max and his folks (namely Lauren and Michelle) know just about everyone by name and usually have your beer ready before you order it. It is a beer only establishment, but patrons can brown bag it for a set up fee.
Nice beer selection, including several on tap, that includes your standard sports bar variety. Food is limited, but tastey. My favorites are the chicken tenders as well as the chicken wings.
It is on the small side, and seating is definitely limited, but if you need more space, you should probably stay home or go to buffalo wild wings.
Compared to other places in Downtown Memphis (including Kooky Canuck) that have better equipped kitchens, Max's hot wings are among the best in the area.
Very comfortable sports bar, friendly and attentive staff, and good food. i loved my IPA and Italian sami with chips. Sami was nicely toasted but bread was soft, and just the right size.
Max's is the ultimate small but amazing sports bar. The bartenders know how to handle a packed house and the drinks are nice and affordable. To go with the drinks, I ordered a Turkey Sandwich with Chips and Cheese Sticks. I mean it was outstanding bar food. While Max's probably packs out with 40 folks in there, it is still a great establishment to patronize.
It's a great local bar, especially if you want to watch a sports game. The food is surprisingly simple but delicious. My only problem was because they were busy. The service was okay. We didn't mind this because we were watching the game. They were very attentive to our needs.
Got my picture on the wall!!!!! The place was chill and very laid back. Jukebox bumping good music due to moi. But I met so many cool people in this bar and had a wonderful time. Deep memories man.
Spent a night in Memphis and stumbled upon Max’s Sports Bar on google. Glad I did! It was a Tuesday night, so not a big crowd, but it defiantly had that down home local bar feel that you don’t find much of these days. Bartender was great and all the local patrons were more than welcoming. Good local draft beer selection and the BBQ nachos are a must. Probably the best I’ve had! Will definitely be back next time my travels bring me to the area.
Great pub environment with plenty of TVs for your favorite game.
Nice neighborhood bar for watching a game and catching up with the locals.
Max's is one of the most amazing bars in Memphis. Mike and Bjarini are the best bartenders you could ever have. The drinks, the atmosphere, all of it make it one of my favorite places!
I'm from out of town and I can't remember feeling more at home. Mike and his kitchen staff came out to get to know us during the game as much as he did all of the locals who where here in force.
Amazing BBQ Nachos!!!! Cheap beer and good Soundsystem. Cool locals. Great sports atmosphere!!!!
If you're looking for a great local bar, with a great bartender, fun locals and good choice of drinks and food, then Max's is the place to be.
As far as I see, no other bars nearby can beat the fun conversations you could have here with the locals, and that is entertaining to me.
Bartenders are great (kudos to Mike - he's been great, the kitchen staff and others)! They conversate with you, check on you regularly and remember your choice of drink even though I visit once a week, which I define as 10/10 customer service.
Definitely recommend Max's to meet people whether you're living in town or visiting from out of town.
