Abyssinia is the most authentic Ethiopian food I’ve had in Louisville.
It’s a family owned restaurant that serves its customers with joy and care.

I love Abyssinia food!
Wow this place was different. Everything about it i wasn’t expecting. The energy in here was warming, waitress was very sweet to us and helpful, the owner (i think) he was very informative as well and courteous. And last but not least the FOOD! fire 🔥 if y’all want to try something get what we had here. I forgot what it’s called but I’m sure it’s on the menu if not show em this photo! lol peace love and blessings! 🥰
Clean, very nice staff, great service, relaxing atmosphere. Food was delicious. We tried the combo platter so that we could try a little of everything. Samosa was delicious! We got the medium and hope to try the hot heat level next time. Very impressed!
Super awesome local business from Ethiopia that I cannot give enough appreciation for bringing their incredible to us so well. Everything was cheap and authentic, they treated us very well and the environment was pleasant, and the food was even better than I expected. My only tiny complaint would be that the service was a bit slow, but that was because they truly an unusually large crowd when we came, however they still served us at a good pace (it really wasn’t that slow). I wish I could’ve gotten everything, but I got the spicy lamb tips with split peas and red lentils - can’t think of any criticism, it was all so much better than I imagined. Love this place and I’m not from Louisville, but I sincerely hope I can come back some day.
One of my coworkers is a regular here and took me for lunch today. I had never had Ethiopian food and was always too scared to try for fear of looking like an idiot, not knowing what I was ordering. If you are like me, TAKE THE LEAP. The food at Abyssinia is SO good. I had the lamb lunch special, and they were delicious. The cabbage and injera bread was amazing, too. I am absolutely full from lunch but am already looking forward to my leftovers as my afternoon snack. I will definitely be back here next time I'm in Louisville. Everything was reasonably priced too, so I know I can get a lot of food for not a lot of money!
We love East African food and randomly found this restaurant on Google because we were craving the flavors. We were not disappointed. The food was fantastic, the restaurant was clean, and the gentleman serving us was polite and generous. It was the best Ethiopian/Eritrean food I have had since being on the continent. I am not from Louisville but would recommend to the locals and would eat here again if I am in the area.
Took a group of teenagers for a different experience. Arefaine Reda "Michael" took fantastic care of us. Suggested family style platter and we experienced a little bit of everything. He did the coffee ceremony for us and we loved the experience. The incense smell with the coffee was Amazing! Who knew that coffee and popcorn go together?!? The best baklava I have ever had. Reasonably priced and definitely would go again. Even the teenagers enjoyed the food!
Had to stop by because Ethiopian food is much more healthy then the other usually stuff. Abyssinia nailed it pretty much. Not to pricey but definitely worth every cent.
Great Service, As soon as you walk in the smells tickle your taste buds!! Fresh food great, Authentic Ethiopian Eats. I've seen this place a thousand times and didn't think they were open. I'll definitely be back to try the rest of the menu.

This is one of the best experiences I have had in a long time.. this is a restaurant you have to go to .. I mean you have to its not as expensive as you would think to experience a true Ethiopian lunch or dinner all the food is spice full and bold and I love all the vegan options they had .. the service was tip top she was so nice and answered all the questions we had to ask the best she could. We smashed the plate they brought out even my 7 year old son even loved it so it's a must..the restaurant is small but clean and the coffee ceremony is amazing and so strong the bold flavor was sooo good and I was not ready for how wonderful I would love this.. this is a must and the price is so worth it I mean to experience this please go.
