In Louisville, and across the country for that matter. They will even let you order half and half so you can experience more than one of their delicious pizzas at the same time!!
We decided to try Coals and have to say that we really enjoyed our dinner. We started with their appetizer Arancini and a Caesar salad, both of which were really good! For the pizza we created our own. Love the wood fired pizzas. Highly recommend this place!

You can't miss the coal fuel oven, as the kitchen is open with that in full view. Nice way to make your point. One thing we were a little disappointed in is there is only one size of pizza. It can be a little too much for one, but not enough for two unless you have something else. We started with an order of arancini (fried balls of risotto with bacon and a core of mozzarella) which is served with a little marinara sauce for dipping. Unfortunately, the bacon has such a strong flavor (a bitter smoke) that it overpowered everything else and made the thing too rich. Too bad. Our waiter told us pizzas have a crispy crust, though they can cook them less time to get a blonde softer crust. We said bring on the crust, the more the better. We had a pizza with sausage, onions, roasted red peppers and fresh mozzarella (the Clifton.) It was crispy with a nice char on the edges. The toppings were good and overall, it was a good pizza. Not the best one we've had, but certainly one that could be enjoyed again. Full bar service is available with craft beer and a wine list. They're a little proud of their beverages compared to other places. Our service was good. I can't say Coal's is a good value, but it's not a bad place to go either.
So all the pizzas are one size, 12 inch which feeds maybe 2 people. Had the prospect with gluten free crust. Except for the end of the crust being a little burnt it was very good for being gluten free. The house salad I added chicken to was a descent salad but not worth almost $8.00. All in all it was good but a little pricey. Service was great!
The Waverly is a must if you like unconventional! This pizza has an airy crust and is one of my favorites in Louisville. I recommend going with friends and ordering several to share which ensures you can try most of the menu.
One of the tastiest pizzas I've had for a long while. I visited here for the first time recently and tried their Butchertown pie (I like the Louisville neighborhood themes for their pizzas). High quality meats and cheeses, and the charred, crisp crust was delicious. Wait staff was friendly and refreshed my drink without being asked! I will return.
Great pizza I had for pizza week 2023. They were extremely busier than normal. Plan a small wait if your going during pizza week. Pizza was the best I had so far. Crust was not to raw or hard and the toppings were cooked just right. Server was busy but attentive and polite. I would recommend.
I’m sorry to report that if you are looking to have a cocktail or two with your meal, the bar is painfully slow in make drinks despite it being 2:00 in the afternoon and hardly anyone here. Our waitress was awesome and attentive and took our orders timely but it is taking wayyyy to long to get a beer and martini.
Update, the bartender came to the table and apologized for the drinks taking so long. He was a nice young man and was sincere so I changed my review.
The five star service is because our waitress Alissa did a wonderful job.
Super nice pizza!! I took arancini and then a simple red pizza without Pecorino Romano on top and both were extremely good. The Kentucky Mule was also AMAZING! The waitresses were extremely kind and the service was very nice.
I’d give it a 4.5 if I could. Great place to grab an Italian-style pizza and drinks. The atmosphere is great with high ceilings and lots of light. Plenty of pizzas to choose from, with a build-your-own option as well. They also have cauliflower crust. Good selection of beers and bourbons too. Two locations in Louisville so get to the nearest one.
Best bartender in town and old fashioned ever. Good food and atmosphere. Just wish they didn't close so early on Friday nights. This is one of our favorite places to go on date nights...actually we go to Coals weekly now.
All the waitresses and hostesses are great but we have adopted Olivia as family. She's super awesome.
Love this pizza! Thin crust with a little crunch! Coal fired oven pizza, and food! Coaled fired stuffed mushrooms that you crave! Pizza week! $10.00 Middletown Pizza! Yummy!

Food is excellent. Some of the best pizza in town. Staff is always nice but slow. I get it, pizza takes a while, and I never get upset for longer wait times but some guests do.
highly recommend!! we had the Crescent Hill pizza, Portland white pizza, and the Coal Oven Classic Wings. The wings were so yummy and they were so different from other wings that i’ve ever had. The only thing is i wish it came with a dipping sauce. Both pizzas were super delicious and the flavor combinations were different and new. loved it. staff was also super friendly and attentive. Definitely coming back.
Our server SUCKED, he forgot about us. Young guy looked like a Jack Harlow. I got the St Matthew's pizza, delicious!! Hubby got the Buthchertown..he loved it. Also got the cheese mushrooms for the app. Very good over all, will steer clear of that server.
