Nice Afternoon. My husband and I stopped in to Mexicali early afternoon on a Friday. We waited a bit to be served, but once we received our cadillac margaritas, we knew we were in a great spot. The extra spicy habanero salsa was great (but what's with the extra $0.75 for it?) We had the lobster tacos which were decent (apparently Rachel Ray's favorite dish-- maybe she wasn't quite on her game that day), and the blue crab and shrimp quesadilla which had more heavy cheese than crab or shrimp. The best part of the afternoon was meeting a couple of the regulars at the bar, who were very interesting and informative. We especially enjoyed talking with Alfonzo, a regular who received his beer and app without even having to order. The bartenders were attentive-- and we appreciated their help in finding something fun to do that evening. All in all it was a very nice afternoon and we will certainly come back for another round at Mexicali.
Good food, drinks and hot waiters!!!
I love mexicali. I frequent mexicali, they have a very large menu of unique dishes and flavorful healthy choices. This is definitely more of a fusion mexican restaurant, so don't go expecting authentic mexican, but they have some excellent creative combinations, definitely some of the best fusion food you will get for the price. The place is definitely dark, and can be loud, so I recommend going early in the evening if you want a quiet dinner.
I think by now, you all know about my addiction..... to cheese. Its incurable, insatiable, and downright sinful. My addiction brings me to Mexicali frequently for their Queso. Notice its not say Queso Dip... because it isn't a dip. It is a plate of 4 cheeses, melted together, broiled with jalapeno strips on top, that comes with quacamole, salsa, flour or corn tortillas, and chips. For $7 on their normal menu. Yes, it is a plate of melty, broiled cheese.... the cheese addict in me is drooling right now.
I discovered that Happy Hour at Mexicali runs 2x daily (from 4-7pm and from 11pm-1am) and offers alright drink deals and downright AMAZING food prices.
Safe safe safe. Just went for the first time since the pandemic. They are doing everything right to make me feel comfortable about safety.
Paper menus, WELL spaced tables in a covered tent with no walls(SO much better than the packed tables I frequently see along Ventura), sanitizer everywhere, masked employees.
On top of that, they did a great job making their outdoor tent super awesome. Great sound. Nice decor.
Thank you Mexicali.
Dinner was delicious! We had the enchilada and taco. My husband had the Roasted chicken. Everything was great including the drinks. Big portions
Drinks great, food awesome, nice friendly staff. Wish i could post a picture the rotisserie chicken burrito. THE BEST I EVER HAD! Wife had the shrimp enchiladas that was good to. Drink were strong, keep up the great work. During covid it's not many restaurants that can uphold a good meal and stay consistent. 5 stars!!
It was delicious. The food was fresh and a lot. The prices were not bad at all. They have happy hours until 7pm. We had a good time. The only problem was the noise. People talking loud. They had a lot of customers at the bar for a basketball game.
Great service the staff is very friendly and nice, Quinn & Nate are not only very hospitable but make great drinks, they alone a te a great reason be make it a donning stop.
All in all good food, good atmosphere and great staff what else can you ask for?
Great artichoke appetizer & Kobe beef burger. Excellent service as well.

We met with friends at this restaurant for lunch. This place was recommended to us by a friend. Well, we were not disappointed. The staff members were very polite and we felt excellent. The meal was yummy. We loved this restaurant a lot and we will visit this place again. Highly recommended.
