Authentic Mexican food. Reasonably priced. They have all the salsas, onions, cilantro, jalapenos etc available at a salsa bar so that you can dress up your food however you like. It's great!
The tacos are amazing! Homemade food is prepared to order, and the salsa bar is really great. Don’t come if you’re in a hurry or you need everything to be chain-restaurant standardized, but if you’d like someone to cook you some delicious, authentic tacos, this is the place!
Authentic Mexican food! The corn tortillas are delicious! We also enjoyed the carnitas, fish tacos and quesadillas. I would recommend stopping by for lunch. You'll leave full and happy.
We went on Saturday around 4 pm. Cute simple decor. No restrooms. Had the chicken and grilled fish tacos with a ceviche tostada. Husband had chicken and al pastor tacos. All turned out to be prompt (about 15 mins) and well seasoned. They offer a large condiment bar that included several types of salsa. The ceviche was fresh but not super remarkable. The tostada under it was great. Suggestion: If not offering restrooms, how about wet naps for hands? Tacos are messy.
Every year we come to Long Beach for a few days in February, to celebrate my birthday (not yet a national holiday, but give it time). Every year we spend a fortune eating at a restaurant that shall remain nameless but has an amazing view. Every year I'm super disappointed with the food at...well, let's call it "Tickled Trish". So this year, we're going from place to place, trying new things.
Which brings us to Taqueria El Jalepeño: it wasn't promising at first but I love little dives (even if the Light of my Life doesn't) and knew it was going to be fine. She's a little picky about certain things. I just had the second best carnitas of my life. Great al pastor, too. Very good beans and rice. Handmade tortillas. Friendly, quick, and delicious. Best food so far this year. Got a dozen tortillas to go; she made them while we ate.
