Love this place. The food is delicious and had awesome service my husband had the steak and he said it was juicy and very tasty i had the pastrami sandwich and it was so tasty we love this place and will definitely be back
Louis is good for what it is, but overpriced.. The spaghetti is distinctive and if you like it, you do. I've been there several times in recent years, and the place always seems like mass production food. You will definitely get filled up on the serving sizes, though, so it's a comfort food paradise. If you like really well made food, you may come away disappointed. But if you aren't picky and you love to eat, and can handle a bit overpriced, then Louis could be good occasionally. It's hard to say if it's better than Pizza Palace, which is still just a drive-in/carryout place and in some respects is better than Louis, despite the common family heritage.
Traditional. I have been eating at Louis since I was a child, and I too began in 1958.. :) I worked there when I was 19, before the move to their new location. I remember loving the spaghetti when I was a child, but really don't care for the sauce anymore.
My favorite is their Liver and Onions! OMGD, it's so hard to find that anywhere, and they cook it perfect, and the grilled onions are very yummy! I also like their garlic bread and salad. It's the only place I will eat French dressing, and theirs is home made. Very DELISH! I got my fiance to eat there yesterday, and he is a country boy meat and three kind of guy. He got the chopped steak, and LOVED it!
Old people food, perhaps, because we have a nostalgia about eating the meat and three you no longer see on menus, as today's "chefs" serve us all of that mixed together.. oh, like chicken parmesean? lol
All I have to say about the old people food comments is, we didn't have tons of FAT friends.. when I grew up eating like this, instead of fast food junkies of today...
Large Group... Like a lot.... Had not been there in many years and had just mentioned that I had wanted to go. Went with a large group and used the banquet hall for about 30 people. Great room for a group. Service was excellent. Food was very good. The only issue I had was that the "large group" menu was a little sparse. Spaghetti, Lasagna, Chicken, 2 Steaks and that was about it. A pizza would have been good - since they are known for it. But, in accomodating a large wine drinking group, they had a very nice set up and prep, very nice private entrance off of the front door, direct door into the kitchen, and fully equipped for good service. Lasagna was kick @$$. Garlic Bread was really good, too. And, dinner salads / dressings were pretty darned good as well. A very good experience. Will go back soon. Want their PIZZA!!!
Louis Spaghetti Gravy. I really enjoy this style of sauce on the occasion when we travel to this burb of K-Town. More like you might remember how Chef Boyardee boxed spaghetti packages tasted back when it was still edible, the 1960's for me. But this sauce/gravy was perfected by this family in the 60's and has been a staple of Fountain City for many decades. A rich, orangish-red meat gravy with flavorful meatballs. Great service, good price, good value.
Family-friendly and family-owned!. I work here, so I may be a little biased, but I love this place. It's by no means fine dining, which is what I think I like most about it. Most Italian restaurants exude pretentiousness and attempt to fool you with checkered tablecloths, overly abundant spices, and cheesy "Italian" music, all while charging you a fortune for pre-frozen junk that's been loaded with sugars to fool you into thinking it tastes good. Louis' is an honest, charming, family-owned restaurant run by amazing people. The portions are massive, which explains the price, and the servers are kind and more than willing to go out of their way for you. The meals only come with a toss salad, but if you ask for cucumbers, tomatoes, or whatever tickles your fancy, then the servers can add it for no extra charge. The dressings are made from scratch and are all amazing. In fact, most things at Louis' are made from scratch, which may explain why most people are confused as to why it doesn't taste like the sweetened junk they serve at Olive Garden. The spaghetti sauce is more peppery and may be spicier than what you're used to, but I like it and so do the loads of loyal customers who've been coming here for years. In fact, WBIR's recent viewer poll ranked it the number 1 spaghetti in East Tennessee!
So if you're wanting to break away from the hoard of restaurant chains taking over Knoxville, enjoy a friendly atmosphere, and support a local family business, then maybe give Louis' a shot. You won't regret it!
This family owned restaurant has deep roots in the community. With all homemade salad dressings, homemade sauces, & pasta, it is
Best Spaghetti EVER. This place has the best spaghetti plate in the city. I find myself hooked on the Alfredo sauce. I've been going here for years and love the menu. My favorite is the ravioli with Alfredo sauce.
Great food!. Hey if your worried about your wallet stay at home. Just don't whine about it to every one else.
Spaghetti sauce is different but I've become addicted to eat. I usually get the veal parmesan. Honey mustard dressing is great as well. Staff is always friendly.
More of a old style than new.. The pasta sauce is cooked fresh each day using a old family recipe. It is peppery. It is not your fresco style italian that most of the pasta places serve now. Salad is nothing to talk about. Shredded Iceburg lettace. The attraction is the pasta. Serving is huge and it comes with a some very nice garlic bread. Staff is very friendly.Clean store considering the huge volume of people moving through there. Very family friendly. They always make us feel welcome.
If you are looking for traditional cooked all day gravy to go on your pasta. This is your place. If you are looking for the new "fresh" sun-dried tomato and pesto sauces. look elsewhere.
