Best Japanese in KC. I LOVE this place. I don't come here for the normal flip food show, I come here for the food, sushi and the yellow gravy. Best food and value in KC. Cocktails aren't bad either.

I always enjoy my dinner here. Tonight the service was very good and the food was as excellent as always. There is always a lot of food, which makes up for the price. I highly recommend dining here.
Very surprised. I didn't have high hopes for Tokyo, because I've been to some really good Japanese Steakhouses. I would say that after having the food (and drink), this may be one of the best Japanese Steakhouses in Kansas City! You get a ton of food for a reasonable price (especially compared to most others) - it tastes great. I will be returning... hopefully soon!
Best in Town. Of all of the Japanese steakhouses in the KC area, this is definitely my favorite! Their house dressing is different than the rest, and I LOVE it! The prices are competitive, I think slightly lower than most similar places in town. Overall, I just enjoy the food here more than I do Gojo or Wasahi... Definitely recommend. Good sushi too!
In Summary.... To echo the two reviews below, I have always returned to the Tokyo Japanese Steak House for their great and friendly service, good food, and much more appealing price point. Granted, you won't find too much to do after dinner in this part of the neighborhood, but if dinner is all you're after, it's really hard to beat this.

Best in KC. This is my favorite Japanese place in Kansas city. I have not been to all of the rest but it is definitely better than Gojo and Niko and a little less expensive.
It was our first time ever eating there ❤️ took our daughter for her 16th birthday 😁 Everything was so good! My MIL doesn't eat beef so our chef used a completely different grill for the steak. Very sweet and considerate! We had a blast and will definitely be back 🥰
Excellent service and food! The staff was knowledgeable about Gluten Free restrictions and had some substitutions. Most importantly they knew what was NOT safe. As the chef prepared our food choices he checked in with my son about his Gluten Free needs and cooked things in specific order to clean the grill and reduce cross contamination. The whole staff was friendly and welcoming. It was a great relaxing night out. Around $200 for 3 teens 2 adults: shrimp, chicken, steak, & one lobster tail with four 21+ drinks.
We ate ate there tonight. The couple next to us split a meal they both got more shrimp, chicken and veggies than me and my husband. I fact I was the last to receive the veggies and there wasn't even enough for the cook to put on my plate. I received a 1)4 if chicken those the two that split a dinner. My husband and I paid over 100 dollars for our meal.
Food under cooked ever will return.
Went with my husband, son, and his family, including 4-year-old, for my birthday. We all loved it. Great food with child's menu. Great entertainment except firing up grill scared the little one for a second. Great hospitality.

The Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse was a very enjoyable experience. We have gone on a few different occasions to celebrate: birthday parties or promotions. It is always avery positive experiences and we look forward to returning. The employees are very kind and accommodating.
There's a very large parking lot in a strip mall type area so we never have to worry about parking extreamly close to someone else. This restaurant is located close to Barry Road and 169 Highway so it is easy to find. There are 10 hibachi tables that seat 8 people so we have never had an issue with being seated rather quickly. There are also regular tables so people can order other menu items besides the hibachi grill. 😄
I always enjoy the food I generally get shrimp and chicken hibachi which comes with: noodle broth soup, side salad, vegetables, shrimp, rice (white or fried), chicken and the optional noodles. My daughter choose the kid shrimp which comes with: noodle broth soup, side salad, vegetables, shrimp, rice (white or fried) and the optional noodles. My son opted for teriyaki chicken which came with: noodle broth soup, side salad, vegetables, bonus shrimp (4/5), rice (white or fried), chicken and the optional noodles. My boyfriend choose steak and chicken and it accompanied: noodle broth soup, side salad, vegetables, steak, rice (white or fried), chicken and the optional noodles.
By the way catching shrimp 🍤 with your mouth is an art... unfortunately not something I excel at so my shrimp landed on my: forehead, shoulder and ultimately my lap. Lol 😆 but it is part of the fun and I still try.
There was so much food leftover we had to get 3 boxes (one was all rice... actually 3 bowls that were full 🍚 🍚 🍚 of fried rice) and we were so full, we literally wadded all the way home. Hahaha. We ended up having the leftovers for another supper meal where again we were stuffed and still had leftovers. I did feed the kids a lunch of the end of the noodles and meat but there was still a lot of rice left. I ended up reusing the rice for another stir fry chicken meal only adding a chicken breast with broccoli and having another full meal. 🙃 It does feel expensive but if I think about it as the cost of that one meal had compleat meals for 6 adults and 8 kids the cost average is not bad at all.
We will be going back again!!
Come hungry. Ordered steak with fried rice. It comes with soup which was delicious, a salad, shrimp, cooked vegetables, and noodles cooked in soy sauce.
We had a blast and all the food was great. Chef did the typical stuff, onion volcano, toss shrimp, etc.
Overall, a great place to try with really good food.

It was great, food was amazing as always. The only thing I have to complain about was the server, they were courteous. The only thing I had an issue with was my drink was never refilled, not a big issue cause we were out pretty quickly. Otherwise it was great as usual, I will be back again. They no longer do sushi unfortunately though, not a big deal.
Enjoyed my Birthday here 2022 I was accommodated two Hibachi grills for all my guest got an amazing show actual dinner left a little to be desired. I will be trying again nevertheless Family friendly for any event
Not for asmatic people. It was fun to watch the flames as they cooked. My steak was flavorful, scallions soft and yummy. There salad dressing was light and creamy. The soup broth tasted nice..noodles were soso. It was a nice place to go with a group. We enjoyed our expedience.
We were a family of 6 with 2 kids.. we enjoyed the 🔥🔥 flames and everything cooked right at our table.. very well done and the customer service is fine.
