Agreat place for breakfast or to meet friends for coffee and chat. Service is outstanding and the food is simple, homestyle and very good! It is popular, best to make it an early lunch hour.
I've been to Portia's twice now for the chicken friend steak special on Fridays. Besides a great chicken fried steak with lots of gravy, you get mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, green beans, and two dinner rolls. If you still have room, and they aren't out already, you can finish your meal with a great slice of pineapple upside down cake. Plus, the service is fast and friendly.
I think Portia's cafe has the best food in town. I would like you to know what all specials we have. Monday is hamburger steak with mashed potatoes and brown gravy with 2 vegetables. Tuesday is our variety day we could be having anything from beef and noodles to turkey and dressing. Wednesday is Meatloaf with Portias special red sauce on it or liver and grilled onions. Thursday is THE BEST FRIED CHICKEN EVER ! Friday is chicken fried steak or salmon patty's with cream peas our food is great Just call us to find out what all we have the # is 241-7494
If I could give it 10 stars I would! This is a family owned business, you get that feel as you walk in the door. The staff goes above & beyond. For those that want good home cooked food just give it a try and you will be hooked! There really isn’t too many places out there like this place anymore. I love love love the sweet iced tea and of course our waitress Kenna!
Small town feel in a big old city. Everyone always seems so positive, friendly, and upbeat. Our server is always fast and accurate. People joke and have fun. Food is always spectacular for such a small place. It's cozy but not necessarily cramped. Their entire menu is reasonably priced, and they seem to genuinely appreciate their customers and any resulting tips. I highly recommend you try it out for yourself if you haven't done so yet, and make sure to try the biscuits and gravy...yum.

Don't pass by this gem of a place. It's AMAZING! Our server, Kenna, was fabulous! As first timers here, she explained how everything was made FROM SCRATCH and with love. She wasn't kidding!
The French toast had so much cinnamon it made my tummy and heart happy. I couldn't believe I finished my entire plate! Hubs had the sausage and cheese omelette with hash browns and toast. He raved about how good the omelette was and the hash browns were done perfectly. He usually doesn't eat the toast, but he finished all of it loving how it was covered with butter. It was only 9:30 am and we were lucky enough to get the last 2 slices of apple pie left for the day! REMEMBER ITS MADE FOR SCRATCH! It was even better than my grandma's pie! 🥧 Sorry grandma.
The women working here obviously love the place and love what they do. It definitely isn't a typical place. Kenna, there for only a couple years worked the room worked the room like she'd been there decades. She made our experience even better. No doubt it's on our list to return to when in the area! Hope we get there soon and get the last slices of pie again! 😁❤️❤️
Loved it form the moment I walked in. Then the food blew me away. Probably second best meal I've had in KCMO. No joke.

Great little space. They were busy and short staffed, but we were in no rush. Sausage house omelette was outstanding. Service was straight forward and super friendly. Would love to try more dishes when back.
This little diner is one of the last of kc's originals and it gets 5/5 for me. It is ran by a bunch of ladies who all call you hunny or baby or sweetie and check on how things are going in your life. They truly care. The food is so delicious. I get hash browns, eggs over medium and toast every time and I look forward to it!! Service is the reason people keep coming back. They are so kind and a joy to be around. I love my girls here!! All the regulars do too. 🩷
I love these mom & pop shops. I had a great experience. The waiter was really nice and good sense of humor. I ordered the shrimp dinner. I would highly recommend. I love sweet tea and they had really good tea. I plan on coming back. Always great to support small local businesses

Oh my, this place was a delight! I love it when we can find the local mom and pop places! The staff was super, so friendly and helpful. Portia's granddaughter was our server and she was wonderful! Grandma Portia (owner) came out from the kitchen and visited with us briefly, such a sweet woman! The food was awesome, hubby got the meatloaf meal and I had the chili dog meal (two oversized sausages) with chili and Fritos, YUM! Got pecan and pumpkin pie slices to go, and they were delicious. Someone knows how to make a great crust! Good prices. Clientel was friendly and everyone was familiar, a refreshing atmosphere! Highly recommend, navigation was a little confusing, but Google got us there from I 70.👍👍👍
Awesome little place! Was looking for a non-chain breakfast place during our visit to KC to see a show. Unassuming and super friendly, had a delicious house omelette and hash browns that were perfectly done (hard to find these days!). Also managed to snag the last piece of strawberry cake to-go for a dessert later. Love the friendly staff and atmosphere of welcome. Just make sure you get there early since they close by 2pm and the cakes sell out quickly . We’ll be back!
