Good price and easy parking. We bought pork belly with skin on and it was SO fresh! They also have a great selection on types of meat that you can’t really find from regular grocery stores.

My husband and I attended the Charcuterie class. We had a fantastic time. This class, as well as the sausage making class we took recently, is a great experience and a great value. You get an education with hands on experience, products to take home and a wonderful meal at the conclusion of the class! Pictured is the Summer Sausage we made and brought home. We smoked it at home, but we did everything else in the class.

They have the best guanciale I’ve ever tried! It’s cured and balanced with the right amount of spices but maintaining that amazing pork flavor! I come by every week ;)

Visited for both lunch in the restaurant and a sausage-making class in the back room of the butcher shop. Eating at the restaurant, the “Pigwich” sandwich was delicious, and excellent fries with a quality beer selection. The sausage class was interesting, as much as a sneak peek into the inner-workings of a butcher shop operation as much as a class for personal future cooking. The instructor was knowledgeable and friendly, and sounds like has dealt with a diverse array of groups from lit bachelor parties (sir please don’t touch the knife) to our group which was a split of a corporate group and some individuals. Information about the sausage recipes itself was decent, though there were a lot of barriers presented tough to surpass at home like the quality ingredients like fresh spices that were ground and smoked vs. dry goods you get at the supermarket. More interesting than anything was the culinary knowledge shared by the professor that is transferable to almost any type of grilling, prep and shopping for meat-based food. Left with a heavy bag of handmade sausage, ready for the grill. After the class and lunch, it was a busy Sunday at the River Market, vibrant and alive with patrons which was a nice change of pace coming out of the Covid pandemic. So many colors, smells, farmer’s market goods, and antiques and miscellaneous products to take in.

My husband & I live in SW Florida. We travel a lot, and The Local Pig is our FAVORITE butcher shop anywhere! I am hooked on their smoked and brined pork chops and pork loins. We were there last weekend, and my husband had called Shane earlier in the week to please freeze some of the chops for me to take back to Florida. We picked them up and kept them frozen until my flight. I only had a carry on bag, and when going through security, TSA saw them and asked what it was. When I told them I had frozen pork chops, they actually discussed keeping them. Without thinking of the consequences, I stood up and told them they were MY pork chops, and that I WAS getting on that plane with them! Now, I have to wait for my husband to get home to grill them for me! I guess I have addiction to the Local Pig, since, obviously, I was willing to go to jail to keep my chops! I sure hope there's therapy for me!

Can't say enough good things about this place! I go in every Friday and get sausages, steaks, or pork cuts to grill. I have honestly never had anything I didn't like from the butcher shop. And besides sara and Shane are super cool and nice. They like regulars! **update on new spot in River Market...its awesome! Bigger menu, addition of fries and coleslaw. And a kids area on the pigwich side!

Found this place on a whim and haven’t stopped going since! Amazing service and a great selection we buy all our meats and eggs from here exclusively!

Local Pig is awesome. Big selection of locally sourced meats and a ton of other foods (and even drinks) that represent Kansas City very well. Would highly recommend taking one of their classes. I was able to take the sausage making class with Jordan and had an awesome experience. Informative, hands on and took away a ton from the class, including a bundle of top tier sausage.

I love The Local Pig. This place has locally sourced meats most of which are grassfed. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. They have their pigwich food truck out back if you are looking for some lunch as well. Most if not all the sausages are nitrate free. The summer sausage and salami are party pleasers. Next time you attend an event be sure to stop in and grab meats for entrees or appetizers and you will not be disappointed.

We love Local Pig! I have been to their shop 2 times already this year taking their classes. I did the sausage making class with my boyfriend then went back with my group of girlfriends for their butchering class. Jordan, Local Pig's instructor, is truly the best. He is so patient and knowledgeable. Answers all of our questions and laughs at our silly jokes. He's a true treasure and a great addition to Local Pig. We are thrilled to bring groups there to learn and to support a local business. Thank you Local Pig!
