This is the best Indian food I've had. Just moved from Chicago, there is great Indian there, yes. However the Chana masala, Chicken Curry, Raita, Saag Paneer and Naan bread is at Mehak. You can tell the owner has been cooking this type of food for 30+yrs. This WILL be a regular place for us.

This is my new favorite Indian restaurant. My girlfriend and I went for dinner before a movie, not knowing what to expect, and we were absolutely pleasantly surprised. The decor is humbling. It is a small restaurant. No frills, it felt like eating at someone's home. The focus, here, is on the food. We were served by Ali who seemed to do the cooking, as well. He was pleasant, made suggestions after we told him we wanted dishes to share, and asked how spicy we like our food (spicy). I ordered a Taj Mahal beer. We started with the Papri Chaat. Ali brought it over and it looked nicely prepared. He told us to mix it before eating. It was so delicious, the sauce was so flavorful with just the right amount of spice. We ate it all. We then ordered Bhindi Masala, an okra dish, and Malai Kofta, a cheese and creamy sauce dish. They were both incredible. The okras were cooked well and all of the vegetables and flavors were well proportioned - nothing was overpowering. Just spicy enough. The Malai Kofta was mild and delicious. The texture of the cheese croquettes was really satisfying and the sauce was irresistible. We wanted to save some to take home, but my girlfriend kept eating the sauce - I had to take it away from her so that we would have enough to enjoy it later on! We accompanied our meals with naan, which were classic and delicious. We will definitely return to Mehak and we plan on trying everything on the menu. It was an enjoyable experience and delicious dinner thanks to Ali.

This is EXACTLY the sort of restaurant I search for when I travel... Small and "exclusive" yet with a charm all of its own... And the food!!! If you love Indian food, I mean LOVE IT (like I do) you need to stop by this little restaurant. I absolutely will be returning. The items I ordered - Muttar Paneer, Garlic Naan and a Flying Horse Lager (beer) - were cooked exactly to my expectations. I even got to have a chat with the owner after I finished my meal (business was slow - bad weather), what a great guy. Tons of world experience and very interesting to hear about his home country. ** If you are an airline employee, bring your ID on Monday - Wednesday between 5pm - 10pm for a discount ** EDIT: I forgot to mention, I WALKED from the JFK Sheraton Hotel to this place and would do it again!! Though the "Q10" bus does get you there much quicker ;-) EDIT (20 May 2017): After being nearly 3 months since I last came here, I walked in the door and the owner still remembered me. Great little place! Once again, I walked over an hour to get here and am absolutely glad that I did!

Been here a few times. Food is as good as home cooked. Mr. Irfan runs the place and is little quite, but not rude as I see comments here. Lots of decent menu options. Portions are enough for two people. Prices are at par with other restaurants in the area. I like the place, will revisit n try other menu options. Only reason for 4 star is that I seldom give 5 stars unless the place is really extraordinary on all levels. This place is by far great.

I love this place! Hands down my favorite spot to go to for Indian food. Everything is made fresh to order. The owner is so friendly. Me and my husband eat here all the time and even ordered catering once for an event and couldn’t be happier! If you’re looking for authentic flavorful food this is the place to go.

I happen to search for Indian food near me but due the circumstances, I had to venture out of my neighbor hood and found Mehak. What a find it is!! The owner is awesome who seriously cares about his customers satisfaction. The food is absolutely extra ordinary. I am so glad I found this place. If you want some mouth watering cooking, please go pick up some from there. You will thank me for it!!

Love the food here, best Indian place in the forest hills area by far in terms of flavor. The owner is also really nice. I Hosted a small family event here and he was really accommodating to my entire family which I really appreciated

I had dinner here with my girlfriend tonight. We have always walked by the place and said we would try it, finally got around to it, and I’m glad we did. The server and possibly owner was very accommodating, made us feel welcome. The best part was the food, delicious, authentic Indian food. Me and my girlfriend shared a few dishes including the Lamb biryani, garlic naan, vegetable samosas, malai kofta, and salads, it’s was all delicious. Food came out quick and the service was great. We will definitely be stopping in this quaint neighborhood spot for a bite to eat again very soon.

Stopped by this small little restaurant on Austin St by the KG movie theater on Lefferts. Just had the chicken jalfrezi, lamb korma and naan. Excellent food, lots of flavor, lots of spice (not hot but nice spice). Very attentive service, enjoyed conversation with the owner, cook, host and enjoyed a couple glasses of wine. Worth the visit.

Came here because I couldn't eat meat during Lent and I'm on the ketogenic diet. Ordered Palak Paneer and it was delicious. He gave a generous portion of paneer (a lot of places skimp out on it) and put the perfect amount of spice in it to the tolerance I described to him (moderate). When I told him I couldn't eat rice or roti due to my carb restrictions, he instead gave me a small salad to acomodate which was not necessary at all as I was prepared to just take the hit on paying for rice I wasn't eating. My new favorite local Indian spot. Unassuming and quaint, but the food is way better than Tikka where I have been put off by their portion for the price. Mehak was priced more fairly, better food, better portion. Totally recommend it.
