Flan, cupcakes, cheesecakes, éclairs, carrot cake... all desserts are outstanding. The coconut topped flan is out of this world. The staff are courteous & Sunday hours are great. My hubby found the bakery & now it's become a little treat for us. Love the bakery!
This bakery is your typical Spanish style with delicious pastries and cakes, they also serve sandwiches and breakfast items. Cuban bread and croissants are delicious, they also have party packages for birthday’s and weddings.
Best authentic cuban bakery in Jacksonville, FL!! Fresh & delicious cuban bread made daily. They have exquisite pastries, cuban sandwiches, coffee & so much more!!
OMG! When we walked in it was like we were back in Miami again. The bakery was beautiful....amazing. The food was excellent. We had beef empanadas, Cuban sandwich, desserts, and of course the most amazing cafe con leche I've ever had! The owners were very quiet but super nice. This place is a must! Very reasonably priced as well. I have to reiterate how amazing the desserts are. Cakes, pies, cookies, flan, custard, cheesecake, you name it they have it. Oh, and the make it all fresh....including there own Cuban bread!!! Yum!!! You've got to go!
Stumbled on this place-- WOW! You must go! Try the Cuban coffee and a guava pastry. The Cuban "sloppy joe" is amazing too. Amazing food and service. Excellent prices. Authentic as it gets
Pineapple Cheesecake. A creamy, mildly flavored cheesecake topped with pineapple ring and a sweet glaze.
Kathy's Bakery and Cafe Nothing in the name gives away the fact that this is a Cuban bakery and sandwich shop. As we looked over the menu hanging on the wall I knew I'd have to order a Sandwich Cubano. Ham and roast pork with Swiss cheese, pickles and mustard. On Cuban bread mashed and toasted in a hot press. I loved the bread. Soft on the inside and crunchy outside.
My husband and I stumbled upon this bakery today at lunch. We were very excited, because we haven't seen this type of Cuban bakery outside of Coral Gables where he grew up in Miami. I have to say the owner was a little standoffish with us until my husband engaged her in Spanish and she realized he is also Cuban. I have encountered that problem many times in Miami, because I do not speak Spanish. I believe it has more to do with their culture and the language barrier and being more comfortable speaking their native language. I just try to engage them as much as I can, smile a lot and they tend to open up a bit more. By the time we finished eating, she kept asking us how everything tasted and gave us cookies to try. For our meal. we ordered Cuban sandwiches, which I must say were pretty good. My husband asked for a piece of flan de coco. It had great flavor, but was a little too eggy for my palate, We also picked out some pastries to take home. Coco pastiles and a piece of coconut layer cake. All were good, but I can tell they need to bake these items fresh atleast every other day to maintain freshness. I'd say the things we purchased had been made two days ago. They will be stale by tomorrow. That's just the nature of fresh pastries that do not have preservatives. No preservatives is a good thing in my mind, but they need to turn over their products quickly or throw them out. People in Miami go to their local bakeries every few days for fresh bread, etc, so you're less likely to get stale baked goods. I'm not sure how long they've been open, but maybe they still need to gauge how often they should be purging and baking new. As for the cleaning, there were 3 women cleaning the entire time we were there. I didn't notice anything really dirty, nor did I see any insects. They've had some issues and I hope they understand what needs to be done to correct them. We need places like this in a world filled with Walmarts and chain restaurants. I'd say give it a try, but remember my suggestion about engaging her and smiling. I don't think she speaks a great deal of English. I had no problem talking to her when my husband wasn't standing near me, but I could tell she was a little uncomfortable with English. If you're looking for good 'ol Southern hospitality, you're not going to get that there right away unless you become a regular. I think the food and selection speaks for itself though. Fresh baked Cuban bread and pastries. No other place in Jax offers that. Overall it was a good experience and we will go back.
Oh my! What a find! I think they are making a mistake not indicating on their sign that they are a Cuban bakery, because those are the absolute best! I can't stay a way from the sweets, but I'm going to have to try their Cuban sandwich. If you can't get to Miami, go to Kathy's!
I enjoy their "Media Noche" sandwich. Don't care for any of the others. Also like their dessert and Spanish coffee.
This place is awesome it reminds me of my hometown of miami/hialeah. 5 stars for this place
Great Cuban pastery - original - my family and I will go back many times. Particularly for the cortaditos, best in JAX. Friendly and very clean.
We had the Cuban and the Midnight Sandwiches, they were good. My husband had the Bocaditos, he said they were good. Coconut macaroons were very moist. I bought a few pastries and will update my post later.
4 stars because prices need to be posted regardless if, it from scratch or not. I had 2 items missing. This is a business not a swap meet.
I love bakeries. I wish I didn't but I do, And Kathy's bakery does not disappoint.
More of a Latin twist on your standards like Napoleans. But enjoy the cultural flavors while you are here. Hot Chocolate, Coffees. Cuban bread is used on many sandwiches.
I was here to sample the sweet stuff. So far, The Napolean is delish.
Plenty of parking and Kathy was a delight with a gorgeous smile to welcome you. I'll be back.
We got there around 3 pm & they did run out of a few items that we did ask for. The lady is very nice. Very small Cafe type, but the pork sandwich is delicious.
By far the best Cuban bread and all of Jacksonville.
Went to buy a Cuban style bday cake and it was exactly what I was looking for. The staff is always pleasant. They have a slew of other Cuban treats like pastelitos, croquettas, Cuban coffee, Cuban bread, sandwiches. All which I've tried one time or another. It's not a chic spot, but more traditional style.
i love their milkshakes!
their cakes are pretty decent some are flavorful ,some aren’t. they sure do have good sugar donuts tho!
This is definitely a frequent stop for my family. I can’t speak highly enough of it. My husband absolutely loves the coffee and the empanadas are to die for.
Very nice to have found an owned Cuban Bakery here in Jacksonville.Very environment and attentive staff. Sandwiches are very good.We tried a little bit of everything and purchased a big Tres leches cake.
We ordered the cheesecake, cheese danish, lemon cake, and cinnamon roll. The cheesecake was AMAZING! The cheese danish did not taste very fresh
If you're ever in need of a Cuban fix then Kathy's is definitely the place. The food and the people are really great and work hard to please customers. Earned it's 5 stars for sure.
