Truly authentic. Great food. I mainly go there for groceries when cooking. Their grocery store has everything you need. Also, sombreros and piñata’s are plentiful. If you’re missing Mexico, this is the place to go!

I have been hearing a lot of chatter about Pepe’s, and was curious about the hype. When we arrived, I was transported to a past life where it was not unusual to get in a car drive over the border, and go into Mexico not the  tourist Mexico, the interior Mexico spending our day just hanging out  with the locals, enjoying the people and   eating the food.  It was  a wonderful time.

Service not the best, but that seems typical to these types of places. Food was awesome and tons of flavor. Hole in the wall for sure, but would go again.

Only real Mex in Jacksonville. This place is great. Real Mexican food to a mostly Mexican clientele. Corn tortillas are made daily on their own press and they make their chips from their own tortillas. All the flavors are right. My favorites have been the carnitas a la mexicana (pork in spicy green sauce) and pulpo gallego (octopus grilled with peppers and onions). They have standard white people food too (tacos, burritos, fajitas, though why get them...). Highly recommended.

Great Food. The food at Pepe's Hacienda was terrific! The salsa was a stand-out as it was better than any salsa we have had in quite some time, and the chips were fresh and not your "typical, out of the bag" chips. The steak burrito was very good since the tortilla wasn't gummy and it was filled with plenty of meat, beans and rice and had just the right amount of enchilada sauce and cheese. The cheese quesadilla was filled with a large amount of cheese, and the guacamole was very flavorful. The refried beans had a great texture as there were some whole beans mingled in with the soupy ones. The rice tasted fresh, it was fluffy and had a great mild flavor. The service was very casual. Our server was friendly but she did not return any time during our meal, and we had to catch her attention to let her know we were finished and ready for our check. We were very glad we stopped in and thoroughly enjoyed our meal.

AUTHENTIC Mexican food - and I mean AUTHENTIC!. I was pretty excited to try this restaurant after stumbling across it on Urbanspoon. I'd actually seen it many times before, but never realized there was a restaurant there, so I just passed it off as being a Mexican grocery store. My husband is the more adventurous type. I tend to avoid places that don't look inviting from the outside (and make me uncomfortable), and this was one of them. No one greeted us as we walked in, so we sat ourselves. The restaurant was absolutely packed, but we were brought chips & salsa pretty quickly. Our server was at our table right after. Now let me preface my review by saying I grew up in Phoenix and frequently went to the border towns in Mexico (Juárez, Nogales, Rocky Point( Puerto Peñasco), Calexico, etc) and the Yucatán Peninsula. I'm very familiar with the culture and the food. Since moving to Florida, I have struggled to find food even close to what I grew accustomed to. Walking through the doors of the restaurant is like walking into Mexico (only MUCH cleaner). I was the only white woman in the entire place. GOOD SIGN! If you're expecting American service and "Americanized" Mexican food, you're not going to get it here. If you prefer that, I suggest you visit Cantina Laredo or Taco Bell. The true test for me is the steak tacos, and let me tell you, they were spectacular. The steak was tender and full of flavor. They also use handmade corn tortillas, Mexican Crema, Queso Fresco, and serve them with a large piece of fresh avocado on top. The tacos were accompanied by refried pinto beans (homemade as well) and Mexican rice – just like in the Southwest. The chips were cut from the tortillas and deep friend. This is also very common in the Southwest and Mexico. They were not premade/bagged then warmed up. The only thing I didn’t care for was the salsa. It tasted like they threw some chopped up onion and cilantro in canned tomatoes. No flavor at all. I'm used to Pico de Gallo. The two sauces they served with the tacos – one red, one green – were very flavorful however. I saw a great deal of people eating Menudo. The hearty soup is typically eaten on Sunday. Our server said they have it every day of the week until they sell out. They sold out while we were there. If you’re looking for authentic Mexican food or just want an adventure, give this place a try. Just keep an open mind. You may be in the US, but you’re not dealing with American’s here! ** And before I forget - the grocery store is amazing too!

The Real Thing. Step inside and instantly transport yourself to Mexico! OK, I eat at Taco Bell a lot; La Napolera too. Who doesn't love cheesie, gloppy Tex-Mex comfort food. Just know that in Ciudad de Mexico they don't serve burritos. However, this place Pepe's is not Tex-Mex, it's the real Mexican deal. The food is authentic and delicious. Not much English is spoken here, and you won't see many blonde heads. Enjoy yourself and try not to look like an INS agent.

Pepe's can be great, but it isn't always great. Sometimes it sucks. Even though it sometimes sucks it is worth the gamble to give it a try if tasty Mexican is what you are in the mood for...long as you are not in a hurry, the service is generally mucho slow.

The Real Deal Mexican. Now I have been looking for a real Mexican restaurant for years. I mean one that doesn't have a salad on top of anything you order. Also with real re-fried beans not the ones in a can. If I wanted paste I would eat Elmer's Glue like I did when I was a kid. On this trip I enjoyed the Barbocoa (Beef Head) and a Fried (twice cooked) Pork Torta. The only thing that was missing was the real thick tortilla with a pocket cut into it. The ones that I used to get in Mexico when we went surfing there. Both of the dishes were really yummy but I would just like a little more spicyness to them.

Absolutely delicious. Kids quesadilla, chips and salsa, 3steak tacos, side of rice. They made sure to give us a big bag of chips which some places make you pay $5 and give you a tiny bag. So you get a good bang for your buck here. I think with delivery and leaving a $6 delivery driver tip this order was about $36 to get delivered. The delivery fees and tip made up a lot of the cost, but that's expected.

Oh my! Better go hungry. Had the beef burrito and it was delicious. Filled me up enough I didn't eat dinner that night. Service was great. A little different atmosphere, but I enjoyed it. Amazing value for the money.

This is the most authentic Mexican restaurant I’ve been to in Jacksonville. I ordered Tacos de lengua, carnitas and a Taco Pepe with rice and beans, everything was delish and authentic! Each taco was made with two tortillas freshly made and so good. I’m from California and Mexican American so my bar is high. They also sell their freshly made tortillas in their store. I will definitely be back!

Pepe's is arguably the best value in Jacksonville. A large menu of favorite dishes and a good selection of beers. The servers are always friendly and the food comes out fast. My photo is of the #17 Pepe's tacos on flour. I get the steak. It's very very good and everything comes with chips and salsa in advance. Attached to a nice size store for groceries and imports. Highly recommend.

The food was wonderful here. The servers understood our order and special requests. We did have to flag down a server to take our order and to get the check which was a minor inconvenience. Also, the atmosphere needs some work. The decor is tacky and the music is a little overbearing. Overall a good restaurant with decent prices and outstanding food. I did not go to the grocery part so I might have to come back for that another time.

I've been eyeing this place for years. I already have a favorite taco place I have been going to for decades, but today I wanted Mexican but not tacos and I finally made it over here. And now I'm mad at myself for not coming sooner. The service was fast and friendly, the atmosphere was nice, the food is excellent and the portions are huge. I got an enchilada dinner plate and it's enough food for me for two full meals or three small ones. Their tamales are three times bigger than any I've ever seen before. I'm very much looking forward to eating my leftovers later and coming back again soon to try something different, I guess I'll have to alternate between here and my favorite taco place LOL I didn't even check out the attached grocery store this time so I have that to look forward to as well.

Employees very friendly. We were there early for a takeout lunch and it took about 20 minutes. We ordered chicken tacos(3) shrimp tacos(3), chips and salsa , one regular size beer and bill ran $40. The chips that came with salsa are thick like pita chips.

My husband and I have been going to Pope's for years. The food is consistently delicious and fresh. They serve you fast and are always friendly. My friend from Mexico said it was the best authentic Mexican food she's had in Jax!
