I never get tired of this restaurant. I have always loved the cafeteria style restaurant and Cleburne's fits the bill.
We had the fried shrimp with fries and potato salad and also the Chicken fried chicken with macaroni. Everything was delicious! There are many options for desserts. They are all huge portions with plenty to share. There is something for everyone and there is always more than enough to take home for another meal.
Ok, this is the place you come for decades. You come here for the same reason everyone else does. Home cooking, friendly staff and large dining room.
This cafeteria is the one that has what the others don't. The squash casserole, custard, lima beans, turkey and dressing.
But, there's more! The servings are huge. HUGE. 2 days of eating huge. And excellent too. You can get the turkey and dressing, on a Tuesday in July if you wish. You'll definitely want to, I promise.
Large selections of sides that are not available at the other cafeterias.
Staff is constantly checking on you and the restaurant is always busy for a reason.
I was expecting something like lubys but was blown away by this place. The interior is beautiful and vibrant. The food was all delicious and fresh. I love places like this for big groups, so many options there's something for everyone. Will definitely be returning to try some of the other dishes that looked great.
Cleburne's is a high end Piccadilly cafeteria without being high end in the pricing. I ordered to go but still looked around the place and will be back for a sit-down lunch! I had the chicken fried steak, mac and cheese and corn. I also had country gravy on the side. Everything was lightly seasoned but well textured. This is becoming a favorite way to prepare food. The atmosphere was pleasant and not loud. They also serve wine and beer. I wouldn't day drink while working but I would come here. It felt like a throwback to an era gone by but I wasn't afraid to go in and get food. I recommend this place if you like a cafeteria type restaurant!
Food is delicious and homemade style. Great service and atmosphere. I personally enjoy the turkey plate with all of the trimmings. Sides are great especially the spinach casserole & the mushrooms. Dessert is amazing if you have the appetite for it as they are large servings. Excellent choice over other cafeteria style restaurants!
Not having been to Cleburnes since it was rebuilt after the fire years ago, I was looking forward to seeing if I would enjoy it as much. It is definitely still the Cadillac of cafeterias.
This place is a Houston institution! Our best cafeteria featuring food just like your grandmother made!
In addition to staple items like Chicken Fried Steak and Fried Fish, they also offer daily specials like Meatloaf, Turkey and Dressing, Chicken and Dumplings, and Prime Rib (Sundays) and SO much more!
All of their food is made with fresh ingredients of high quality. They don’t over salt, which I think some people have mentioned in their reviews. I find this refreshing - as some places use too much salt!
All their desserts are also freshly made!
Ice tea is endless and refreshing.
One other toss back to old school cafeterias, they have roving carts in the dining room that offer drink refills and condiments like lemon and butter, etc.
As some reviews mention, the price is somewhat high, but I think it’s inline with its quality and the size of the portions.
My wife and I dined here earlier today. We were very impressed with the delicious tasting meal. The portions they serve are VERY generous. We ate the went to microcenter and came back about half hour later just to try thwir desert. Well, that was amazing! She bought the German chocolate cake, lemon cake and blue berry cake. We are definitely coming back for more!
Luby’s move aside. This iconic establishment prices are slightly higher that other similar eateries, but worth it. It is clean, well designed and the food like grandmas. Portions are big. Highly satisfied. When it comes for desserts, great variety.
