Cugino Forno is a dream come true, and a very unexpected one at that to be here in Greensboro, NC. If you have never experienced a true Pizza Napoletana then you are in for a special treat. This is the quintessential pizza, the great great Italian granddaddy of everything we know and love about pizza this side of the Atlantic. That being said it would be best to put aside any preferences or expectations we are so accustomed to here in the states - ordering single slices, half toppings, custom toppings.... Pizza Napoletana is simple and pure, made from a very strict albeit short list of the best imported ingredients from Italy. And the pizza must be eaten fresh right out of the super hot oven. This is how it is done in many pizzerias in Italy - fresh hot wonderful pizza with a very crispy heavenly thin crust, served up at communal tables where families and other diners may also enjoy a glass of wine and maybe a Cannoli or two or three. And it's been done this way in Italy for a really long time. Yes, it's noisy at times. Yes, you have to get up and walk a little to find the hot pepper flakes (helps burn calories for another order of Cannoli). These are very very minor concerns if even that, and if one were to dine at a pizzeria in Naples, Italy the experience would most likely be very similar - which is exactly why I love this place. I can't possibly imagine anything better!
We absolutely love everything about this place. #1 Pizza...excellent atmosphere and desserts. I have eaten pizza all over the country and this is the best! The crust is perfect. The ingredients are imported from Italy. The sauce and cheese ratio is perfection. The roasted peppers on the bar are definitely a must try if you like a little extra heat on your pie. The service is amazing. The pizza arrives steaming hot out of the oven moments after sitting down. The bathroom is not only clean but beautiful. The music is always Italiano! Godfather all the way!!! We love Cugino Forno.
