Finally checked out The Sovengard and now I'm angry with myself for not trying it sooner! The interior decor was classy and beautifully simple but my friend and I opted to enjoy the outdoor seating. The biergarten was amazing. I never knew what a large space was tucked away back there. Lush plants, adorable picnic tables and the shipping container bar?! Staff was friendly and super knowledgeable. Patiently answered all my questions and explained their menu with ease. The food. We began with a cheese board, it was placed in front of us and each item was described. We devoured it. I opted for the Chicken and Dumplings while my companion ordered the open-faced tomato jam and goat cheese sandwich. My dish was savory, creamy, and delicious. The dumplings were light and airy, melted in my mouth. The chicken was juicy and tender. Spring veggies cooked crisp tender cut through the richness of the demi glace beautifully. We made the best "mistake" ever by inquiring about dessert options. We were already pleasantly full but were so impressed by the menu we wanted to hear about the sweet options. Our server had me at Blueberry lavender sorbet and honey Pot de crème (with a bourbon whipped cream). I unnecessary ordered both and I absolutely do not regret that choice. They were both outstanding. I would recommend The Sovengard to anyone. I cannot wait to return and try something new!

The atmosphere, food, and drinks are on point! It looks like they have a huge patio in the back too! Can't recommend enough.

This is one culinary experience everyone should be sure to visit if you're remotely close to the area. The staff is incredible and beyond accommodating for anything you need. All food is hyper locally sourced so majority of whatever you are eating is from the GR area/ region. The attention to detail from the flavor of the dishes to the presentation is beyond what I expected. They also have an amazing drink list with some natural wines that fully wrapped up the entire experience with a bow. This place is now on my "must go" list if I am ever near GR again. Kudos and hats off to this place and their killer team. 👏

Always the highest quality experience no matter the meal, time of day, season, weather, or indoor/outdoor seating. Every dish is exceptionally planned and executed - presentation is beautiful every time. They truly care about the whole experience, which includes wonderful staff and service, and a lovely selection of beverages. We love to come at least once per season to experience the current menu choices, as everything is scratch made and sourced as locally as possible. Dinner in the summer and during nice weather outside is a must for dates or as a place to bring guests. Cocktails are top of the line. Brunch is also delectable. It’s a beautiful experience to dine here, very relaxing and thoughtful space. The beer garden or indoors - you can’t really go wrong with either seating arrangement, and every dish is sure to impress and wow you.

Had an excellent brunch today at Sovengard! The outdoor patio is beautiful and very comfortable for a morning meal. The food was very good, especially the brunch burger. The mimosas were good too, a touch light on alcohol.

Very fun atmosphere, but a bit overpriced. The first I went in May 2021, I ordered the only vegan entree, and I left feel very hungry after waiting 45 minutes for it and spending a lot. On my second visit in June 2022, there were more vegan options fortunately, but it was still a very expensive meal for what we received.

This place is just great. Wonderful food and ambiance. I ordered two of the open face sandwiches and they were awesome. She got the pork shoulder which was equally good. Every ingredient tasted very fresh and prepared from scratch. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We got right in with no wait during peak time on a Saturday night. They have a lot of seating and the outdoor area is great. Definitely a place to hit in Grand Rapids

Really unique dishes and delicious drinks! Everything here was really well made, and our cocktails were amazing. Thank you to the waitstaff for being so friendly and helpful. Despite the heat, and it being a holiday, we were able to have a great time here.

Really appreciate the farm to table food. Service was absolutely amazing and the food was incredible. We were there celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary and the wait staff went out of their way. We really appreciated the service. I had the trout and would definitely recommend the cheeseboard!

A very trendy-upscale eatery that offers unique takes with fresh ingredients. We ate upstairs and had a great time! The waiter was friendly and not overly intrusive and the restaurant wasn’t too crowded or loud. It is a bit pricey, but you pay for what you get! They had some outstanding meals

If you're looking for a delicious eatery with a cute aesthetic for your next date night, my partner and I would suggest the Søvengård. While the weather is decent, they are doing outdoor seating only, which is fine by us. The menu is seasonal, so what we had may not be there much longer: Eagle Creek trout with butterball potatoes, roasted carrots with pepitas, pickle plate, and kladdkaka. Flavorful and very satisfying, all around. The service was attentive yet leisurely, i.e. they didn't rush us through our meal (if you're in a hurry, this is probably not the place for a quick bite). Highly recommend for drinks out with a friend where you want to catch up and graze some appetizers, and very nice for a date night.

The last time I visited The Sovengard was before Covid and it was wonderful, but upon my return I am pleased to say it was absolutely out of this world. Aside from having top of the line service, we were sat on the beautiful back patio on one of the most perfect days we could have asked for. Ambiance isn’t in short supply, and vibes are overwhelmingly positive. We had the bloody mary and the mimosa for drinks, the Dutch baby for a sweet treat, and a savory shareable finish with The Hearty Woodsperson; a portion fit for a single eater with a large appetite, or for two to be comfortably enjoyed without a food coma. I highly recommend the Sovengard for brunch or dinner. This restaurant breaks away from some of the monotonous trends that plague new age eateries. You won’t be disappointed!
