Came here for dinner and it was great! Had the Gyoza and Edamame as appetizers, both were very good! Gyoza were probably best I have had. Then got spicy tuna roll and specialty roll. Both good.
Try the teas, they have several hot teas! Orange was interesting and good. Finish off with vanilla bean cheesecake.
I stopped in for a quick roll and some saki on an early Saturday evening, sat at a table on their lovely patio and was impressed with the friendly service. I had the inari (rice in fried tofu pockets, very tasty but not on the menu for some reason), a ‘Soy Joy’ roll and a carafe of the cucumber saki. Everything was fantastic. I’ve eaten at several of their different locations many times and love the look and vibe of this particular restaurant. I’ll definitely be back!
Really good sushi. It's my first time at this location and we all really enjoyed it.
Nice lunch combo for $21. A signature roll and a regular roll.
Note that they have water and alcohol and teas to drink.
No pop.
I got the crunchy shrimp and the crouching tiger.
I recently went to Maru on Cherry st and I cannot say enough amazing things! The sushi was very good and I love the selection of non alcoholic beverages. One thing that made my night was my amazing server, Molly! Not only was she an amazing server but, unfortunately, on my way to the restroom I tripped over my own feet and me and my belongings hit the floor. She immediately put down what was in her hands and helped pick me and some of my things up. I was so embarrassed but she made me laugh and feel better about it. Thank you, Molly! What an amazing person to have working there! I will be back!
A great place to grab dinner with friends to catch up! They have a large variety of appetizers and entrees, so everyone will find something they enjoy.
As a table, we tried a couple of apps and a handful of different rolls and everything was delicious. The Crab Rangoon Dip is very creamy and rich and the Gyoza is perfect.
For rolls, we ordered the Cali, Philly, Crouching Tiger, Ex-Girlfriend, Nirvana, and Crunchy Crab. Everything was delicious.
For drinks, I tried the Soup Lemonade and I think the sangria. Both were good!
Our family loves going here. The waitress we had went above and beyond to help find food for my son that was safe for food allergies and that he would enjoy. Food is always delicious.
We ordered firecracker shrimp and chef special sushi.
Both were pretty good. The service was good.
The chef special is customized and is based on your preference. So it might take awhile for the chef to make them. We waited about 40 mins for our sushi. It's worth the wait. But I would recommend ordering more appetizers and some not so complicated sushi if you are ordering the chef special.
Was passing thru Grand Rapids and wanted to have some Asian food so stopped by Maru. Overall decent meal. The waitress was so friendly and cheerful it brightened up the meal. Based on the ingredients I’m assuming the owner is korean since lot of Korean ingredients. Definitely a fusion restaurant and if you are expecting a authentic Japanese restaurant Maru isn’t that. However the food was still tasty and the fusion flavours were very good. 4 stars vs 5 since it took 30min to get our 4 rolls despite the restaurant not being very crowded.

Great food. We got there at 5 pm and there was no personnel around which was odd. They had some meeting in the kitchen and eventually we had to call them to get someone to show up. There was a line of people. Great gluten free options and knowledgeable.
The food is good. Not the kind of authentic Japanese flavor but it’s the fusion style I like. A bit slow. We came at about 11:30am but waited almost 40 mins before the entrees came. The price is relatively high but match its quality of food.
